President Emmerson Mnangagwa has said the government will create pathways for sustainable economic growth while protecting citizens from economic sabotage and greed-driven actions.
Addressing the 378th Ordinary Session of the ZANU PF Politburo at the party’s headquarters in Harare on Wednesday, 25 September, Mnangagwa condemned what he considers to be attacks on the economy that harm ordinary people and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to safeguarding Zimbabweans from economic disruptions.
Mnangagwa said the country is making significant progress despite challenges like sanctions, climate change, and global economic issues. He added:

Acts of economic sabotage, and speculative and counter-productive tendencies by those who thrive on greed and profiteering have no place in our country.
Attacks on the economy to make the public suffer are unacceptable and my Government will protect the ordinary people.

The warning comes in light of soaring prices for essential grocery items, particularly in formal retail outlets, alongside the rapid decline of the local currency, the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG).
Mnangagwa urged ZANU PF structures to take decisive action against threats to the party’s unity. He said:

Unruly elements abusing various media platforms to cause alarm and despondency, while also sowing disunity and advancing misguided, nefarious political agendas within the country and Party, stand warned.
I call upon this Politburo Session to once again introspect and give the requisite guidance so that our beloved Party, ZANU PF, and the people of our motherland, Zimbabwe, pick up pace towards building a stronger Party and the realisation of our shared national development agenda.

Mnangagwa expressed his gratitude to the ZANU PF Youth League leadership from Masvingo Province, along with support from other provinces, for organising the inaugural Munhumutapa Day, which coincided with his 82nd birthday.
Wednesday’s Politburo meeting was also attended by First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa, Vice Presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi, ZANU PF National Chairperson Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, and Party Secretary General Obert Mpofu.

Mnangagwa Vows To Protect Citizens From "Greedy" Businesses

ZANU PF President and First Secretary Emmerson Mnangagwa has demoted Mike Bimha from the position of party Political Commissar to an ordinary member of the Politburo.
In a statement issued on Monday evening, ZANU PF Secretary General, Obert Mpofu, also announced several other reassignments in the Politburo.
He said Jacob Mudenda, the Speaker of the National Assembly, has been re-assigned to be the Party’s Treasurer General, taking over from Patrick Chinamasa, who is now ZANU PF’s Secretary for Legal Affairs.
Munyaradzi Machacha, who was the Principal of the Chitepo School of Ideology, has replaced Bimha as the ZANU PF Political Commissar. Reads the statement:

His Excellency, the President and First Secretary of the Party Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa has made the following re-assignments to the revolutionary ruling Party’s Politburo portfolios with immediate effect:

The ZANU PF Politburo is the highest decision-making body outside of the party congress and plays a crucial role in shaping the party’s policies and direction.

Mnangagwa Fires ZANU PF Political Commissar

ZANU PF has said only the Constitutional Court can declare the appointment of the commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) General Phillip Valerio Sibanda to the ZANU PF politburo unconstitutional.
On 28 October 2023, during the ZANU PF annual conference in Gweru, President Emmerson Mnangagwa named General Sibanda as an ex officio member of the Politburo.
The appointment was criticised by lawyers and the opposition who said the Zimbabwe Constitution prohibits security service members from being active in political parties/organisations.
However, speaking to <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/got-to-court-zanu-pf-tells-critics-of-general-sibandas-politburo-appointment/">ZimLive</a>, ZANU PF’s director of information and publicity Farai Marapira said that those who are criticising General Sibanda’s appointment to the Politburo are “misguided” and “loose cannons”. He said:
<blockquote>
Firstly, it is saddening that for a people in a democracy, we still fail to appreciate and respect the fact that only courts of law have the right to speak with finality on matters constitutional and legal.
The Constitutional Court is clearly created and alive for such matters. Anyone else claiming the right to speak as an authority or with finality is clearly misguided and a loose cannon.
We, unfortunately, have personalities in our body politic who are prone to having engorged views of themselves and their opinions.
Last Saturday’s announcement of General Sibanda as an ex officio member of the politburo is wrong in the eyes of a few who may consider themselves learned when they are not.
Limiting interpretation of the appointment to one’s understanding of section 208 of the constitution of Zimbabwe alone is the result that has led to, in my view, a misguided take on matters.
Section 67 of the Constitution, which is sacrosanct, says every Zimbabwean citizen has the right to make political choices freely.
Let it be noted that Section 208 does not also prevent political choice but encourages members of the forces to not make partisan decisions in the execution of their duties.

Critics are adamant Mnangagwa breached his oath to uphold the Constitution by appointing Sibanda to the ZANU PF Politburo.
Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) spokesman Promise Mkwananzi said:
<blockquote>
ZANU PF cannot keep breaking the law only to tell us to go to court. They must observe the law. The appointment is both unlawful and politically problematic. The general must step down if he chooses to be a politician.

Lawyer Thabani Mpofu argued that it was unconstitutional for General Sibanda to take up office in the ZANU PF Politburo. He added:
<blockquote>
That does not require any debate, not even a dishonest one. Can you imagine the general taking up a post in the CCC? Not only is this disturbingly inappropriate, it is also vulgar.
If for instance, we were to take the decision to agitate, to carry out nationwide protests, to be civilly disobedient; how is General Sibanda going to respond to us?
Will he respond as a Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces or as a member of the lootocracy that ZANU PF is?

MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora, who is also a lawyer, said:

The appointment of the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces General Sibanda into the Politburo of ZANU PF is totally wrong.
It marks a serious desecration of our constitution. It signals a serious and unacceptable conflation of the State, Army, and Party.

Critics Of General Sibanda’s Politburo Appointment Are Misguided - ZANU PF

The opposition Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU) party said that the Commander of Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF), General Phillip Valerio Sibanda should reject his recent appointment into the ZANU PF Politburo by President Emmerson Mnangagwa if he still has a ZAPU conscience, reported <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/zapu-trashes-former-zipra-commander-valerio-sibanda-says-he-is-now-part-of-zanu-pf-cult-and-should-reject-politburo-appointment/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>.
Sibanda was a member of ZAPU’s military wing, the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZPRA) during the War of Independence.
On Saturday, 28 October, Mnangagwa announced Sibanda as an ex-officio member of ZANU PF’s Politburo.
Opposition political parties including ZAPU and the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) have said the appointment is unconstitutional and goes against Section 208 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe which bars serving members of the security services from being active members or office bearers of political parties.
Responding to followers on X, formerly Twitter, ZAPU said Sibanda should reject the appointment saying by joining the ZANU PF Politburo, he has become a member of the cult. It said:

If he still has any ZAPU conscience in him, he would reject it. But anyone who has enjoyed the poisoned chalice for so many years would definitely not do so. He is now part of the cult, and history will judge him harshly!

Some former ZAPU members who were led by the late former Home Affairs Minister Dumiso Dabengwa left ZANU PF in 2011 to revive the party.
However, the majority maintained their allegiance to ZANU PF saying they respected the 1987 Unity Accord.

ZAPU Says Army Commander Should Reject ZANU PF Politburo Appointment

The ZANU PF Politburo on Wednesday confirmed candidates who won in the primary elections re-runs held over the weekend.
Briefing the media after the Politburo meeting, ZANU PF National Political Commissar Mike Bimha revealed that the party had endorsed the victorious candidates after reruns held over the weekend.
Party spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa said the outcomes are testimony that there are no sacred cows in the party when it comes to democracy.
ZANU PF conducted primary elections reruns on Saturday in Churu, Mbare, Zvimba West, and Gokwe Nembudziya.
The winners are as follows: Fundukwa Ephraim (Churu), Matinyanya Martin (Mbare), Mercy Dinha (Zvimba West), and Flora Buka (Gokwe Nembudziya).
The losing candidates are Charles Matsika (Churu), Emmanuel Mahachi (Mbare), Ziyambi Ziyambi (Zvimba West), and Justice Mayor Wadyajena (Gokwe Nembudziya).

ZANU PF Politburo Confirms Primary Elections Reruns Results

ZANU PF’s secretary for administration Obert Mpofu has expressed gratitude to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who is ZANU PF’s president and first secretary, for reappointing him to the Politburo.
Mnangagwa reappointed Mpofu to his post, as well as national political commissar Mike Bimha, secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa, and secretary for security Lovemore Matuke.
He also announced Mabel Chinomona as the women’s league leader and Douglas Mahiya as chairman of the war veterans league.
Mpofu wrote an open letter in a State-controlled weekly publication, praising Mnangagwa and also congratulating him for his recent reelection. He said:

Congratulations to my boss, the freshly re-appointed first secretary and president of the ruling ZANU PF, his Excellency President Mnangagwa.
The people saw him as worthy and his credentials resold him to lead our revolutionary party.

Mpofu Praises Mnangagwa Over Politburo Reappointment

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to announce a new politburo which may see some of the current members become ordinary card-carrying members.
Speaking during the last politburo meeting before the 7th ZANU PF National People’s Congress which commenced on Wednesday, 26 October, Mnangagwa revealed that some members will be reassigned. He said:

In whatever portfolios the party assigns us in the future, let us maintain the momentum we have demonstrated to date, while at the same time providing appropriate guidance to the lower structures of the party.
No matter our portfolios in the future, let us remain unflinching and consistent as loyal, patriotic, and committed members of ZANU PF emboldened by the fact that in our party, leaders at every level are servants of the people, as such the most important position in ZANU PF is to be a card-carrying member.

ZANU PF Politburo Set For Overhaul

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has implored party members who contested the 28 December ZANU PF provincial elections to accept the outcome and work together for the good of the ruling party.
Mnangagwa made the remarks while addressing a ZANU PF politburo session at the party headquarters in Harare on Wednesday. He said:

As we deliberate on the report of the elections, I urge all members of the Party to be mindful of the fact that, in our Party, there are no winners and losers. It is the people and ultimately the Party that wins.
Party cadres who did not make it in the recent elections must avail themselves, their experiences, skills and competencies to build and grow our mass Party.
Just as iron sharpens iron, the spirit of camaraderie and collegiality must be harnessed as we all serve this great Party, ZANU PF and the nation as a whole.
An election lost must never dampen the revolutionary spirit of any cadre, but inspire them to learn, develop and mature in their political career.

The ZANU PF elections were reportedly marred by violence and vote-rigging and the party is yet to announce the final results of the polls, more than a week after the votes were cast. Said Mnangagwa:

Irregularities and political chicanery across Party structures must be decisively dealt with and expunged from the Party.
I urge the Party leadership to always listen to the aspirations of the people at every level.

Mnangagwa urged party members to work towards securing “a resounding victory” in the 2023 general elections.

Mnangagwa Calls For Unity After Chaotic Provincial Elections

Tensions are reportedly on the rise within ZANU PF ahead of the party’s Politburo meeting set for this Wednesday.
This comes amid reports of anger and bitterness emanating from the 28 December 2021 polls that were marred by allegations of vote-buying, rigging, name-dropping of President Emmerson Mnangagwa by some candidates and security sector involvement.
National political commissar Mike Bimha’s office was reportedly overwhelmed with complaints of electoral irregularities.
In a letter dated 30 December 2021, addressed to Bimha, aspiring provincial chairperson for Matabeleland North province Believe Gaule Ncube highlighted several irregularities during the elections. He wrote:

Following the just-ended provincial elections to elect ZANU PF provincial leadership, in the case of Matabeleland North province, there has been a series of gross irregularities, omissions of justice and commissions of injustices by certain individuals campaigning for the opponent candidate, namely Cde Richard Moyo, who is also Minister for Provincial Affairs.
The uncalled for behaviour is deployed to ensure that by all means necessary, there will be an unjust victory for the candidate in the name of Cde Richard Moyo for scrutiny of the election process and nullity of an unfair outcome.
…There was gross intimidation of the electorate that supported and preferred me Cde Believe Gaule.
Two days before the election in question, the opposing candidate Cde Richard Moyo’s campaign team made claims that the party does not allow anyone to oppose and compete with a minister in an election.
They went on to claim that Richard Moyo is the President’s choice, and he has been endorsed by the President.

To many, voting otherwise could be seen as opposing the word of the President and first secretary of the party HE Cde E.D Mnangagwa.

There is recorded audio in support of this and witnesses (those who were addressed on that particular day) abusing the President’s name for private gain cannot and must not be tolerated.
There was a deliberate distortion of voter credentials, where some voters who were expected to vote for me had their names and surnames correctly captured in the register, but their national identity numbers had been deliberately wrongly captured, rendering them ineligible to vote.
It is absurd for one to accept that the whole province had a total of 10 000 votes cast. It is worth noting that money was a game-changer as Cde Richard Moyo’s campaign team paid the election facilitators to aid in the rigging process.

Ncube also claimed that police officers manning the Nkayi South polling stations told the voters to vote for Moyo saying going against the minister was going against Mnangagwa.
Manicaland provincial chairperson Mike Madiro, who was announced the winner according to preliminary results, also raised similar allegations.
He accused former national commissar Engelbert Rugeje of presiding over biased polls in the province.

ZANU PF President and First Secretary, Emmerson Mnangagwa has said winners and losers should accept the results of the forthcoming provincial elections which will be held next week.
Mnangagwa made the remarks while addressing a ZANU PF Politburo meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Harare this Tuesday. He said:

Successful and unsuccessful candidates are urged to accept results and quickly avail themselves for deployment into serving the party, its members and the nation as a whole.
The party election and mobilisation teams alongside the relevant departments are directed to strictly comply with the laid out rules and procedures that govern the conduct of our elections.

ZANU PF meetings across the country have been characterised by violence ahead of the internal polls.

Winners And Losers Should Accept Election Results - ED

President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Wednesday urged ZANU PF members to ignore people who have pointed out the failures of his government, describing them as prophets of “doom”.
Mnangagwa said at the ZANU PF politburo meeting, where he told party members that the economy was on a rebound despite the negative public perception.
He said even the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank have acknowledged that the country’s economy is on a positive trajectory, hence critics should be ignored. Mnangagwa said:
<blockquote>The overall rebound of our economy has been acknowledged and received good reviews from the IMF and the World Bank.
A glowing light can never be hidden under a table, it shall eventually shine forth.
Unfortunately, there are those lone voices and perennially pessimistic individuals who always wish gloom and doom on our economy and country.
They must be ignored with the hope that one day; they too will see the light, acknowledge the truth and speak well about their mother country.</blockquote>
Mnangagwa’s remarks come after former Finance Minister Tendai Biti (MDC Alliance), criticised a recent report by IMF which suggested that Zimbabwe was poised to outgrow its neighbours.
Biti described the IMF as a naïve and dishonest institution after it published a report forecasting a 7% growth in Zimbabwe’s economy.

Ignore Prophets Of Doom, ED Tells ZANU PF Politburo

Former Zanu PF political commissar and Deputy Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Victor Matemadanda was reportedly sacked over incompetence.
Matemadanda was demoted at a politburo meeting held in Harare on Thursday for alleged incompetence after he presided over chaotic Zanu PF district coordinating committee (DCC) elections in December.
The elections were marred by accusations of vote-rigging and buying, and violence and delays in the commencement of the polls.
Some Zanu PF members boycotted voting in the elections after names of their preferred candidates were removed from ballot papers under controversial circumstances.
The Gokwe Central Member of Parliament was also punished for publicly bragging that Zanu PF was responsible for using State institutions to destroy the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance.
Presidential spokesperson George Charamba on Friday confirmed that Matemadanda was no longer the party’s political commissar or deputy minister. He said:
<blockquote>(Cde) Matemadanda was not fired, but he has been reassigned for a higher responsibility out of the country.
A number of our embassies have no representatives, hence there is a need to fill in those vacant posts.
But it’s up to His Excellency (Mnangagwa)’s discretion on assigning the individuals. There are a number of reassignments that are going to be taking place.</blockquote>
Matemadanda replaced Engelbert Rugeje as Zanu PF political commissar in June 2019.
In 2016 Matemadanda was expelled from Zanu PF for his criticism of then-president, Robert Mugabe who was later overthrown in a military coup in 2017.

'Matemadanda Was Fired For Incompetence'

Zanu PF will hold a Politburo meeting tomorrow (Thursday) at its Harare headquarters, the party spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said.
In a statement, the party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity Khaya Moyo urged members to be punctual. He said:

Zanu PF normally holds Politburo meetings on Wednesdays but the party’s First Secretary, President Emmerson Mnangagwa <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/03/22/mnangagwa-to-get-first-sinovac-jab-in-victoria-falls/">is in Victoria Falls today</a> where he was expected to officially launch the Second Phase of the COVID-19 Vaccination Programme.

Zanu PF Politburo Meets Thursday

The ruling ZANU PF party will hold its first Politburo meeting for the year 2021 this Wednesday at its Harare headquarters.
In a statement on Tuesday, the party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity Simon Khaya Moyo urged members to have been seated by 9.45 am. He said:
<blockquote>The Secretary for Administration Cde Dr O. M Mpofu wishes to advise all members that there shall be a Politburo meeting to be held on Wednesday 17 February 2021 at the party’s Headquarters commencing 10 am.</blockquote>
Last week ZANU PF cancelled it politburo meeting at the last moment without giving reasons for the decision.
The postponement was announced a day after the death of Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique, Lieutenant General (Retired) Douglas Nyikayaramba, who succumbed to COVID-19.

The ruling ZANU PF party has postponed a politburo meeting that was scheduled for this Wednesday at the party’s national headquarters in Harare.
In a statement, the party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity Simon Khaya Moyo said members will be advised of the new date. He said:

The postponement comes a day after the death of Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique, Lieutenant General (Retired) Douglas Nyikayaramba.

Regrettably, that was not to be as he succumbed to Covid-19 related complications.</blockquote>

ZANU PF Cancels Politburo Meeting At The 11th Hour

The ruling Zanu-PF party will hold a Politburo meeting on Wednesday at its headquarters in Harare.
In a statement, the party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity Simon Khaya Moyo urged members to be on time. He said:
<blockquote>The Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu wishes to advise all members that there shall be a Politburo meeting to be held on Wednesday, 10 February 2021 at the party’s headquarters commencing at 10AM.
All members should be seated by 0945 hours sharp.</blockquote>
The meeting comes when President Emmerson Mnangagwa is back from his annual leave and at the same time the country is grappling with COVID-19 and is yet to procure vaccines for the viral diease.

Zanu-PF Politburo To Meet On Wednesday

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has claimed that the ruling ZANU PF party is fulfilling the promises it made to the electorate ahead of the contested 2018 elections.
Delivering his opening remarks at the ZANU PF 343rd Ordinary Session of the Politburo in Harare on Wednesday, Mnangagwa also announced that Government will next week launch the ambitious Agricultural Recovery Plan. He said:
<blockquote>Government programmes continue to be implemented drawing from the 2018 Party Manifesto. We are delivering on the promises we made to the people. We are course and will never waiver from delivering on our promises. Let our citizens know of these achievements.
The Agriculture Recovery Plan which I will be launching on 26 August, seeks to meet the promise made towards promoting productivity, enhancing support systems and infrastructure and developing markets for our agriculture products to earn foreign currency.</blockquote>
Among the perceived successes made so far, President Mnangagwa highlighted the rationalisation of farm size and the elimination of multiple farm ownership, the signing of the Global Compensation Deed Agreement with the former commercial farmers and road rehabilitation and construction, and the fight against corruption.
He took the opportunity to remind politburo members to remain vigilant by continuing to practice social distancing, good hygiene of handwashing or sanitizing as well as wearing masks in the face of the coronavirus crisis.

The ruling ZANU PF party will on Wednesday 4 March 2020 hold an ordinary session of the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zanu-PF_Politiburo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Politburo</a>.
In a statement on Tuesday, party Secretary for Information and Publicity and Party Spokesperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Simon_Khaya_Moyo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Simon Khaya Moyo</a> said the session will be held at the Party Headquarters at 10 AM. The statement reads:

The meeting is held when the nation is engulfed with fear over the country’s preparedness, or lack of it thereof, to prevent or contain the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Zimbabwe is also submerged under an economic and humanitarian crisis which is characterised by a huge deficit in fuel, mealie-meal, cash, foreign currency, medicines and power.

ZANU PF Politburo To Meet On Wednesday

Tempers are expected to flare up at the ZANU PF politburo meeting this Wednesday as it comes just two days after members of the youth league accused some businesspeople who are considered to be close to President Emmerson Mnangagwa of corruption.
ZANU PF youth league deputy secretary, Lewis Matutu and political commissar, Godfrey Tsenengamu on Monday held a Press conference at the Media Centre where they accused <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Kudakwashe_Tagwirei" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Kudakwashe Tagwirei</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Billy_Rautenbach" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Billy Rautenbach</a>, two men with interests in fuel, of corruption and sabotaging the country’s economy.
Some reports claim that party chairperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Oppah_Muchinguri" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri</a>, with the support of some politburo members, were looking to push out the military component in the party and leave Vice President Constantino Chiwenga exposed.
Meanwhile, ZANU PF secretary of administration Obert Mpofu said the accusations made by the duo were not on the Politburo agenda as they issued the statement in their personal capacities. He said:
<blockquote>We are not aware of the factions that you are talking about and from the information that I have, they addressed the Press conference in their individual capacities and did not speak for the party. The party is not part of that and it’s not part of this.</blockquote>

Tempers Expected To Explode At ZANU PF Politburo Meeting

The ruling ZANU PF party’s Politburo will meet in the capital on Wednesday (today).
The 328th Ordinary Session of the Politburo will be held at the party’s headquarters, with all members expected to attend.
The meeting was confirmed by the party’s Secretary for Information and Publicity, Simon Khaya Moyo. He said:

The ZANU PF Politburo is the highest decision-making organ of the party between Congresses.

ZANU PF Politburo Convenes Amid Deepening Crises

ZANU PF’s politburo is currently meeting at the party’s headquarters in the capital Harare today (Wednesday).
The latest Indaba comes after the country descended into chaos as citizens protested against a sharp price hike for fuel products.
ZANU PF bigwigs that include two vice presidents Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi and other senior members are all in attendance.
The party is also expected to be detailed on issues to do with national security, party discipline among other issues.
