The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is implementing a strict no-mobile-phone policy for officers on duty, permitting cellphone usage only during breaks and lunch periods.
In a memorandum dated October 31, 2024, addressed to all stations in Masvingo Central District, the Officer Commanding expressed concern that, despite repeated directives prohibiting cellphone use while on duty, many commanders have failed to enforce this policy effectively. Reads the memo:

With immediate effect, no member is allowed to be in possession of a cellphone whilst on duty. Cellphones should only be used during break and lunch times.
Once a member is found with a cellphone whilst on duty, the Officer in- Charge of the said member will be put to task.
Upon commencement of duty, the Officer in-Charge should take possession of the cell phones and lock them in the safe or cabinet.
All stations standard operation procedures should contain a clause governing the use of cell phones whilst on duty and members should acknowledge having read and understood the SOPs.

The directive may pose challenges for police officers if they are not provided with radios. Officers say they rely on their phones to call for backup, request ambulances at accident scenes, and coordinate transportation.

Police have confirmed the arrest of two officers caught in a viral video taking bribes from motorists on the Harare-Mutare Road near the Mabvuku turn-off.
The video, which lasts over five minutes, was recorded by a motorist on Saturday, November 2, and has since gone viral.
In a statement released on Sunday, November 3, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrests of Sergeant Chifamba and Constable Gunzva, saying they are facing both disciplinary and criminal charges. Reads the statement:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police informs the public that Sergeant Chifamba and Constable Gunzva have been arrested and are now in detention.
They are facing both disciplinary and criminal charges. These are bad apples who do not deserve to be serving in the Police Service.
The Commissioner-General of Police does not condone corruption by any police officer and will ensure that the law takes its course without fear or favour.

Two police officers were caught on camera taking bribes from drivers at Mabvuku in Zimbabwe. The video was shared on social media and went viral. The officers, Sergeant Chifamba and Constable Gunzva, have been arrested and are facing punishment. The police commissioner says corruption will not be tolerated in the police force. The officers are in trouble for taking money from kombis, taxis, and other vehicles. They are going to face punishment for their actions.

Mabvuku Turn-off Bribe-taking Police Officers Arrested

Two police officers and four alleged accomplices have been arraigned before the Gutu Magistrates Court on charges of stealing maize meant for drought relief in the district.
The two police officers, Admond Mavhangira (45) and Allen Hamandishe (32) are stationed at ZRP Basera.
Their alleged accomplices are Calvin Munhamo (38), Daniel Charungwa (45), Costa Fire (29), and Shepherd Masundidzire (49), who is employed by Madzingo Transporters as a driver.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the incident occurred on June 13, 2024, around 4 PM, at Alheit Business Centre, Basera.
The second accused, Allen Hamandishe, was tasked with escorting a truck carrying 370 x 50kg of maize meant for drought relief to the ZRP Basera Police Camp for safekeeping.
Shepherd Masundidzire, the sixth accused, drove the truck and parked it at the police camp at 7 PM. However, the six accused individuals allegedly hatched a plan to steal a portion of the consignment.
The state alleges that three of the accused returned around 9:30 PM and drove the truck to Chimombe Clinic, where they met the third, fourth, and fifth accused persons. They then offloaded 170 x 50kg of the maize.
The theft was discovered when the maize was being distributed, and investigations led to the arrest of the accused individuals. The total value of the stolen maize is estimated at US$3,646.
The accused persons were denied bail on Friday morning and will appear in court again on August 1, 2024.

Two police officers and four others have been taken to court for stealing maize meant for people suffering from a drought. The theft happened when the maize was being taken to a police camp. The accused planned to steal some of the maize and sell it. They were caught when the stolen maize was being given out. The stolen maize is worth a lot of money. The accused have been denied bail and will come back to court in August.

Police Officers Steal Drought Relief Maize

Police officers based at the Gwambe police base in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South Province have deserted the post claiming they were being terrorised by goblins at night.
Ward 2 Councillor, Mabed Ngulani, confirmed the unusual situation to CITE’s <a href="https://cite.org.zw/author/senzeni/">Senzeni Ncube</a>, saying the male officers reported being terrorised by female goblins at night. He said:

We built a police station for the officers, and initially, they patrolled in pairs. However, they haven’t been able to stay for extended periods.
They described being harassed – bodies being violated, doors opening on their own, and things climbing on the roof – making it impossible to sleep.

Cllr Ngulani said a meeting was held last week with village heads and police officials from Plumtree. He said:

The police from Plumtree withdrew the officers from Gwambe, stating they wouldn’t endanger them further.
Police came yesterday and said we should look for another alternative accommodation but there is no accommodation at Gwambe school and they will be using the clinic as an office, we haven’t got accommodation but we asked them to come back and we see if the attacks will continue.

The local chief was reportedly made aware of the situation and cautioned villagers against such behaviour.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province, Inspector Loveness Mangena said she was not aware of the matter.

Police Officers Abandon Base Amidst Alleged Goblin Terror

Three police officers, Admore Nyamaropa (32), Andrew Magwenzi (35) and Prince Mugove Kuchekenya (39), who are stationed in Beitbridge were convicted and sentenced by a Harare Magistrate on robbery charges.
The brief facts of the case, as outlined by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), are that on 17 April 2023, Timothy Murasiranwa who is employed by the National Employment Council for the Tourism Industry of Zimbabwe was at Beitbridge Border Post where he collected a silver Land Cruiser Prado on behalf of his employer.
Murasiranwa intended to drive the motor vehicle to Harare and he was in the company of his brother who was driving a Toyota Rav 4.
He drove the Land Cruiser to Puma Service Station whilst his brother followed him and they intended to refuel both vehicles. Said the NPA:

Whilst parked at the service station, a silver Toyota Corolla without registration plates approached and parked parallel to the complainant’s motor vehicle.
Two of the accused persons disembarked from the motor vehicle and started walking towards the complainant. One of the accused persons had a pistol underneath his shirt.
Upon noticing the pistol the complainant drove off but he was blocked at one of the garage’s exit points by the accused’s Toyota Corolla.
The two accused persons walked towards the Toyota Corolla where they pulled out a rifle. Upon seeing the rifle the complainant drove to the back of the garage hoping to find another exit but he found the road closed.
The accused persons followed the complainant to the back of the garage.
When the complainant’s brother noticed that the complainant was being followed by armed men he also drove to the back of the garage.
The complainant quickly jumped into his brother’s car, leaving the Prado behind and they sped off from the scene. The accused persons drove off in the Prado.

Murasiranwa reported the matter to the police and investigations led to the recovery of the stolen motor vehicle on 01 May 2023 from a mechanic leading to Nyamaropa’s arrest. He then implicated Magwenzi and Kuchekenya.
Nyamaropa was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment of which 4 years were suspended. Magwenzi and Kuchekenya were sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each of which 2 years were suspended.

Three Police Officers Jailed For Armed Robbery

The eighty-six (86) Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) senior police officers recently promoted to the ranks of Commissioners, Assistant Commissioners and Chief Superintendents will be confirmed to their new positions today, 29 May.
The promoted senior officers include ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Ngwarai Nyathi, who together with 16 others was elevated to the rank of Commissioners.
Former Bulawayo police spokesperson and Officer Commanding Gwanda District, Chief Superintendent Mandlenkosi Moyo, together with 27 others were promoted to the rank Assistant Commissioner rank.
Officer Commanding Commercial Crimes Southern region, Superintendent Alford Nyasha, and Supt Sipiwe Makonese who is a former Matabeleland North provincial spokesperson together with 39 others were promoted to the rank of Chief Superintendent.
In a recent statement, the ZRP said Commissioner General Tandabantu Godwin Matanga will officiate the conferment of the rank to newly promoted senior officers this Wednesday. Reads part of the statement:

86 Senior Police Officers Promoted

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has refuted claims by some junior police officers that they have not been given new uniforms for this year’s independence celebrations parades.
This follows reports that junior police officers are attending this year’s independence celebrations inspection parades wearing clothes that do not match to protest against an alleged critical shortage of uniforms within the force.
In a statement issued this Tuesday, April 16, ZRP Senior Staff Officer [Press and Public Relations] Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said the claims are false.
Asst Comm Nyathi said that claims about a shortage of political uniforms are being spread by police officers who are driving a “certain agenda”.
He asserted that all police officers taking part in the 2024 Independence Day Parades at National or Provincial levels have been allocated new uniforms.

In the same vein, the Zimbabwe Republic Police urges journalists to be cautious with some rogue police officers who are in the habit of using social media and some media houses to create confusion in the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is ready to give the media the specific names of all members participating in the forthcoming 2024 Independence Day Parades and the nature of the uniform each member has received.

ZRP Refutes Police Uniform Shortage Claims

Junior police officers are reportedly attending this year’s independence celebrations inspection parades wearing clothes that do not match.
They are deliberately doing this to express their disgruntlement against a critical shortage of uniforms within the force, a <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200025696/disgruntled-cops-stage-uniform-protests">NewsDay</a> report claims.
Last week, police commanders in Harare abandoned an inspection parade ahead of Thursday’s independence celebrations after it emerged that the police officers were improperly dressed.
Some police details reportedly showed up for the parade wearing civilian shoes after going for over three years without receiving new pairs of shoes.
The ZRP was preparing to be part of the provincial independence celebration parade.
NewsDay reported sources as saying members of the Zimbabwe National Army, Air Force of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services who were part of the parade were immaculately dressed while their ZRP counterparts appeared dishevelled.
As the inspection began, senior police officers only inspected three members before leaving, expressing disappointment at how the rest of the officers dressed. Said a source:

We then proceeded into the square, and an army commander also questioned the manner in which we were dressed and he skipped the police detachment.
</blockquote>
A senior police officer was quoted as saying they had been advised that the shortage of uniforms was due to the unavailability of the material used in making the garments. Said the police officer:

The challenge of shortages of uniforms has been overlooked for a long because the cops have been covering it up.
They have been asking for uniform items such as shirts, skirts, belts and others from among themselves. On special inspections for State events, the one without a belt shoes, or even trousers would ask another and they would show up at the parade smartly dressed.
But this time, they are singing a different tune. They are not borrowing. They are coming dressed in what they have and it’s not looking good.

ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi told NewsDay that the uniform issue was being addressed. He said:
<blockquote>
The uniform issue was being addressed in phases. We have the grand parade where national activities take place, and we have the provincial parade, but the uniforms are currently being sewn.
By tomorrow (today) morning, most provinces will have their uniform issue addressed. It was a few provinces that had uniforms that were outstanding, but it was a work in progress, not to say members were told there were not going to be any new uniforms. As for Harare, by tomorrow (today), all the uniform issues will have been addressed.

In November 2023, the Zimbabwe Republic Police indefinitely postponed a pass-out parade for that year’s recruits due to a shortage of uniforms. The recruits were eventually deployed to their respective workstations before the pass-out parade.

Junior Police Officers Stage Silent Protests Over "Shabby" Uniforms

Two Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) members based in Beitbridge have each been jailed for an effective 18 months after taking a bribe from a suspect arrested for illegal possession of drugs in October 2023.
Andrew Masakadza (37) and Fungai Gomo (33), both deployed to ZRP Beitbridge Rural, took a R1 200 bribe from Youbeen Mudimba Lutumba Growth Point.
<a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/bribe-taking-cops-jailed-two-years/">The Herald</a> reported that the cops denied the charges of criminal abuse of office as public officials, but Beitbridge resident Magistrate Takudzwa Gwazemba convicted them on the strength of the State’s evidence.
The two were each sentenced to 24 months in jail, but six months were suspended on condition of future good behaviour.
It was the State case that on 23 October 2023, at around 9 PM at the Lutumba business centre, Masakadza and Gomo heard that Mudimba was selling drugs at her home in Lutumba.
The two police officers, who lived in the same area, proceeded to Mudimba’s house known as Happy’s Kitchen.
Upon arrival, the two, who were dressed in civilian clothes, saw Mudimba and searched her shop.
They handcuffed her and another villager, Simbabrashe Ndou who they found at the shop and ordered them into the house.
Masakadza and Gomo searched the house and recovered 30 by 100ml bottles of broncleer syrup, 250 twists of mbanje and a plastic sachet containing US$100 and R8 000.

Police Officers Jailed Two Years Each For Taking Bribes

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has appealed to members of the public to assist in identifying one of the suspects who was among a group of assailants who robbed police officers who were manning a roadblock in Masvingo on Thursday 11 January.
The ZRP has supplied a picture of the suspect who was captured on CCTV at a service station in Masvingo.
The four suspects posed as members of the uniformed service when they robbed the police officers.
Later that day, the robbers boarded a Toyota Fun Cargo at Gurutsime Business Centre near Renco Mine claiming that they wanted to go to Chiredzi.
Along the way, the driver of the vehicle suspected he was carrying armed robbery suspects and disembarked from the vehicle and tried to run away.
One of the robbers drew out a firearm and shot the motorist in the chest. He later succumbed to the gunshot wound at Masvingo General Hospital. ZRP said in a statement:

Reference is made to the ZRP press statement on a series of armed robbery cases which occurred on 11/01/2024 in Masvingo from CBD to Renco and a Police Roadblock site along Nemamwa –Muchakata Road, Masvingo.
The ZRP is appealing for information which may assist in identifying one of the suspects who was captured on CCTV at a service station in Masvingo.

Police Roadblock Armed Robbery Suspect Caught On CCTV

A group of four men allegedly robbed police officers who were manning a roadblock near a place called Muchakata in Masvingo around 3.30 PM on Thursday.
According to <a href="https://x.com/TheMirrorMsv/status/1745667817398010048?s=20">The Mirror</a>, the robbers stripped the police officers of the uniforms they were wearing. These included a grey Police shirt, anti-riot trousers, a pair of Presidential shoes and a Police cap.
The robbers, who were reportedly armed with three pistols and driving a Honda Fit (new shape), also took away two cellphones belonging to the police officers.
In Zimbabwe, it is rare for robbers to target police officers in broad daylight as the majority of reported armed robbery cases occur at night and usually target businesspeople, business premises or individuals with huge amounts of cash.
The seizure of police uniforms indicates that the assailants will likely use them to commit crimes while masquerading as police officers.

Police Officers Robbed At A Roadblock

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has promoted 1 500 police officers countrywide in what critics say is a strategy to boost their morale and buy their loyalty ahead of the upcoming general elections.
<a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200015384/tempers-flare-as-police-secretly-vote">NewsDay </a>reported sources as saying there is disaffection among junior officers over the questionable promotions.
It has been alleged that the process used was unclear and the promotions were not based on merit but on nepotism.
In the past, police officers wrote examinations to be promoted, while for those not academically gifted, the force would invoke provisions of the Police Act to promote members on account of good behaviour and hard work.
According to a memo written by Police Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga to all stations, all promoted officers will be transferred from their stations after the election. Reads the memo:

The Commissioner-General of Police is pleased to announce the promotion of the following members with effect from 11/08/23 as shown in order of merit.
Conferment of badges of rank shall be conducted by respective officers commanding provinces (for all provinces/CID/SU) and CSO admin in respect of PGHQ [Police General Headquarters] on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 1000 hours.
All promoted members shall not put on the new badges of rank until after conferment. Staff officer ordnance shall start issuing out new badges of rank on Wednesday, August 16.
Promoted members are to remain in their current stations until after the 2023 harmonised elections.

ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the promotions to NewsDay. He said:

It is not correct that the promotions are targeted at boosting the morale of police officers due to the pending general elections set for August 23, 2023.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police has a promotional policy that guides the organisation on promotions as vacancies arise within the system due to natural manpower wastage such as retirement, death, resignation and those dismissed for various disciplinary reasons and criminal acts.

Asst Comm Nyathi said Matanga had not received complaints from officers-in-charge about interference by some senior officers in the process. He added:

In fact, the promotion exercise was conducted through boards of officers at station, district, provincial and national levels.
These boards then submitted their recommendations to the Commissioner-General of Police.
This was an open system that started at the station level based on merit. Above all, it is not possible for the ZRP to promote all police officers in one go.
The Commissioner-General of Police is even happy to receive names of the said police officers who were promoted at the instigation or interference of some senior officers.

1 500 Police Officers Promoted

CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere has claimed that the opposition party has received reports that police officers are being forced to vote under the watch of their superiors.
In Zimbabwe, police officers who will be on duty during the voting day are allowed to vote prior to the elections through postal voting.
Posting on Twitter, Mahere said some police officers are alleging that they are being forced to vote for ZANU PF. <a href="https://twitter.com/advocatemahere/status/1691472277727010816?s=20">She said</a>:

POLICE OFFICERS report that they’re being forced to vote under the watch of their bosses as we speak.
There are no agents or observers allowed to monitor the process. They report that they’re being forced to vote for ZANU PF.

In an unrelated development, prominent lawyer, Thabani Mpofu allegorically stated there is a scheme to manipulate the voting process. <a href="https://twitter.com/adv_fulcrum/status/1691476855512088576?s=20">He wrote</a>:

I hear a certain Electoral Commission is telling presiding officers that they must not post results on the notice boards at polling stations.
By the laws governing that Electoral Commission the instruction is unlawful &amp; CITIZENS of that country must resist the illegality.
In Zimbabwe, this will never happen. I hear the opposition is going to surprise the regime. Wait and watch.

CCC Official Says Police Officers Claim They Are Being Forced To Vote For ZANU PF

A police officer reportedly committed suicide at Parirenyatwa Hospital in Harare after telling doctors of his shame that his salary was too little to support his family.
<a href="https://www.zimlive.com/police-officer-hangs-himself-at-parirenyatwa-hospital-over-pay-shame/">ZimLive</a> reported that Francis Patama (34), jumped off a moving police vehicle but survived and was taken to the hospital where he hanged himself.
Patama was taken to the hospital by a team of officers from the Support Unit and relatives, including his wife.
The publication cited police sources as saying Patama did not report for duty on time after being paid last week.
When his superiors initiated disciplinary proceedings, he allegedly assaulted one of them. Added the source:

He jumped off a moving police car on June 17 in an attempt to commit suicide.
He was taken to Parirenyatwa’s psychiatric unit called Annex and admitted for what doctors said was major depressive disorder with psychosis.

Patama allegedly told doctors that he “feels like he is a failure because his salary can’t sustain the basic needs of his family.”
On the day of his death, Patama left Ward 12 where he was admitted to take a bath and took a cloth belt from one of the patients’ hospital gowns and hanged himself in a wardrobe.
Parirenyatwa spokesman Linos Dire declined to comment saying the matter is under police investigation.
Earlier this week, the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2023/06/20/teachers-blame-mthuli-ncube-for-deputy-headmistress-suicide/">said that the Deputy school head at Sarahuru Primary School in Mwenezi took her own life</a> due to “slave wages”.
Police officers are in the same pay bracket as teachers and other civil servants.

Police Officer Commits Suicide Over Pay Shame

Two police officers were arrested recently on allegations of stealing US$158 000 from a suspect.
Addmore Musiza (34) and Tafara Machokoto (41) appeared before Harare magistrate Stanford Mambanje on Wednesday facing criminal abuse of office charges.
They were remanded in custody.
Prosecutors said that on 03 March 2023, at around 7 PM, Musiza and Machokoto who are stationed at CID Stores and Business, were assigned to investigate a theft case at National Foods.
The two interviewed the suspect, Edward Davai Mudowaye who had been arrested for stealing US$158 000 stolen from, National Foods, Aspindale, where he was employed.
Mudowaya said that he had given the money to Susan Jiri for safekeeping.
The suspect then led the two to Block 7 836 Matapi Flats, Mbare and recovered the loot from Jiri.
However, they did not bring back the cash as recovered property but instead shared it among themselves.
It is further alleged that the two later took Mudowaya to court claiming that they did not recover anything from him.
It is alleged that CID Homicide detectives received information about the offence and arrested the duo.
Musiza was allegedly found in possession of US$56 000 which he had buried in a maize field about 400 metres from his house.
Machokoto was found in possession of US$22 000 which he had given to his aunt in Aspindale Park, Harare.
Another US$3000 was recovered from Jiri.

Two Police Officers Steal US$158 000 From Thief

Police officers have reportedly been ordered to attend civic education meetings coordinated by the ruling party where they undergo ZANU PF ideological reorientation.
During the civic education meetings, ZANU PF officials are reportedly pleading with police officers to vote for the ruling party in the upcoming general elections.
ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the training to NewsDay but professed ignorance of ZANU PF’s involvement. He said:

I can confirm that the police are undergoing [civic education] training.
But as to the allegations [that ZANU PF is facilitating], I am not aware.
</blockquote>
NewsDay reported that on Monday, 16 January, police officers from various provinces spent the day attending the “training” programme in Murewa and Chivhu in Mashonaland East province.
ZANU PF officials promised to improve cops’ welfare if it wins this year’s general elections.
The ZANU PF officials were accompanied by police commissioners and superintendents.
Police officers were made to sing ZANU PF songs and chant its slogans, reported NewsDay.
Junior police officers are reportedly angry with the development, accusing high-ranking officials of using them for their own benefit.
A message posted by a police officer on one of their WhatsApp groups read:

They (the chefs) get cars, hefty salaries, they live in mansions apa basa ravo ndere kuco-ordinator vopa maorders chete (their job is only to co-ordinate and give orders) What about us?
We get a $200 dollars salary and roam around the streets each day whole on an empty stomach. Zvimwe zvinoda kushandisa brain (Some of these issues need critical thinking).

University of Zimbabwe (UZ) political science lecturer Eldred Masunugure said State institutions should be non-partisan. He said:
<blockquote>
If it is really happening that police are under Zanu PF training, it is unconstitutional.
It is up to the affected stakeholders to challenge that in a court of law. It is clear-cut political interference.
Political parties, watchdogs, or prospective candidates should challenge that.
That is an (un)ambiguous abuse of the Constitution.

Police Officers Forced To Chant ZANU PF Slogans | Report

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu has ordered all police officers with big bellies to undergo fresh training so that they lose the excess fat and improve their fitness.
Suluhu made the order during the conclusion of the training of officers in Boma Kichaka Miba, in Tanga.
She said she was unimpressed with the way long-serving police officers with pot bellies marched. Said Suluhu:

I’ve been observing you at the parade, those leading the march are veteran officers and some of them have big bellies.
I have seen the big bellies. I believe we should not have officers with big bellies.
They should come back here (for training) so that they can be light and effectively execute their duties.
</blockquote>
Suluhu, who became Tanzania’s first female president, recently sacked the country’s Inspector General of Police, at midnight, and redeployed him as an ambassador to Zimbabwe.
Suluhu, of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi party, took over the country’s presidency following the sudden death of president John Pombe Magufuli in March 2021.
She is set to serve as Head of State until 2025 and the country’s constitution allows her to contest for a second term.

Tanzania President Orders Police Officers With Big Bellies To Undergo Fresh Training

3 Harare ZRP Police officers have been incriminated in a number of robberies that occurred in Claremont Orchards in Nyanga where people in the timber business were reportedly robbed and assaulted on several occasions, NewsDay reports.
The matter came to light in an internal memo that was seen by the publication that stated that the there police officers who have been fingered in the crimes committed in Nyanga and their accomplices are:
<ol>
<li>Constable Tatenda Ndlovu stationed at ZRP Harare Central Business Centre Traffic</li>
<li>Constable Listen Sibanda stationed at ZRP Harare Central Business Centre Traffic</li>
<li>Constable Tariro Rangarirai of Harare Central Police Station.</li>
<li>Forget Madzitire who is in the business of selling timber</li>
<li>Nhamo Nyamutowa, who are into the business of selling timber</li>
<li>Never Nyarumba who is unemployed.</li>
</ol>
The memo detailing the cops’ alleged crime from Officer Commanding Manicaland province, Commissioner Wiklef Makamache reads:
<blockquote>The background of the matter is that complainant one, three and four and accused number four were all in partnership with a timber business as from the first week of March. On March 23, the four proceeded to Harare with processed timber for sale.
On March 26 after selling their timber and sharing proceeds, complainants one and three returned to Nyanga, leaving the four accused in Harare.
On March 27, 2021 at around midnight, the accused persons drove to Nyanga using a silver ML Mercedes-Benz and proceeded to complainant one, Slyvester Makandwa and to the residence of Sharon Makandwa (husband and wife). The accused persons knocked at the dining door.
The complainant woke up and opened the door and the accused demanded money from them.
They were allegedly given US$300, and the accused started assaulting the complainant with open hands and a baton until he went to the bedroom and collected another US$850.
The accused allegedly went to several other victims’ homes, where they beat up their victims and demanded money. The total amount they collected during the robberies was US$1 245.</blockquote>
This comes a few weeks after a ZRP Police <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/02/20/suspected-armed-robber-harare-cop-fatally-shot-alongside-3-other-robbers-as-they-attempt-to-rob-shop-owner/">officer stationed at Hatfield Police station</a> was gunned down together with 3 other robbers as they were attempting to rob a Harare businessman.

3 Harare Police Officers Incriminated In Nyanga Robberies

The security forces have released a joint press statement condemning the clashes between their members. They said that they are conducting joint investigations on what actually happened.
The press statement reads:
<blockquote>The security forces regret the unfortunate incident that took place on 1 August 2017 in the Harare Central Business District. we want to categorically condemn that incident and assure the nation that a joint team has been set up to conduct comprehensive investigations into the matter and appropriate action will be taken against the perpetrators. We also want to reaffirm that as security forces we are fully united despite this incident.</blockquote>

Police and soldiers release joint press statement on violence

Responding to inquiries by parliamentarians on Wednesday 2 August, Defence Minister Sydney Sekeramayi said he was worried by reports that soldiers had beaten police officers in Harare’s CBD on Tuesday evening.
Sekeramayi said that he would fully respond on the reports when he gathered full information on the matter. When contacted for comment by Studio 7, both Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson, Alphios Makotore and police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba did not comment on the issue.

Sekeramayi comments on news of soldiers beating police officers, says he is worried

There are reports of violent clashes between soldiers in uniform and police in Harare CBD along Robert Mugabe Street. Police were beaten up and ran into Harare Central Police station.
Unconfirmed reports are that the soldiers were retaliating following an incident on Monday when police threw spikes to a truck belonging to soldiers, and former were beaten heavily. This is a developing story and we will add more information as it comes through…
