ZANU PF spokesperson, Christopher Mutsvangwa has dismissed reports that suggest that some members of the party want Vice President Constantino Chiwenga to replace President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Reports say there is an unwritten agreement between Mnangagwa and his deputy which states that the former will be president for a single term and hand over to Chiwenga.
The agreement is said to have been entered into in 2017 before the demise of the late former President Robert Mugabe. 
In an interview with The NewsHawks, Christopher Mutsvangwa said the congress, which will be the first to be held without Mugabe who died on 6 September 2019, would pass the test of democracy. 
Asked to respond to reports that some Zanu PF members want Chiwenga to replace Mnangagwa in accordance with their “unwritten agreement”, Mutsvangwa said:

“We hear rumblings to that effect from those who are outside the membership of the party. Best if they can become party members so their rumblings can get the opportunity to be debated and addressed. Otherwise, if they feel genuinely aggrieved, the 2013 constitution of Zimbabwe allows for them to form their own parties in league with those fretting outside of party structures and membership. Zimbabwe is not a one-party state.”

Mutsvangwa’s remarks come as Sybeth Musingezi, a ZANU PF card-carrying member, filed an urgent High Court application seeking a prohibitory order to interdict the ruling party’s coming congress.
He instists Mnangagwa is illegitimate since he came to power following an unlawful special session of ZANU PF’s central committee.
However, Mutsvangwa said next month’s congress will still go ahead irrespective of the court bid.

Addressing Zanu-PF supporters at Nyamhunga Stadium in Kariba yesterday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa thanked Zimbabweans for supporting the military intervention that saw him replacing Robert Mugabe as the president of Zimbabwe.
Mnangagwa thanked Zimbabweans for being peaceful and implored everyone to remain united. He pleaded with political parties to commit themselves to non violence. Said Mnangagwa:

I thank our people at home, our people in the urban areas that you managed a transition that could have easily exploded into a huge disastrous conflict but it was a transition with the blessings of the All Mighty, with the blessings of our ancestors. And we should say let us remain united. Let us love each other. Let us move forward and I plead all political parties to commit themselves to non-violence. As a result of that I have said our elections are going to be free, transparent and credible because we are united.</blockquote>

Mnangagwa Thanks Zimbabweans For Supporting Military Intervention

Addressing supporters at Nemamwa in Masvingo West on Saturday, Masvingo Senator Clemence Makwarimba said former president Robert Mugabe was not removed from power by the army but he was pressured to resign by Zanu-PF.
Makwarimba said the dismissal of Mugabe as party leader by Zanu-PF’s central committee and the solidarity march as well as the move to impeach him pressured the nonagenarian to resign. Said Makwarimba:
<blockquote>There are some who are lying that Cde Mugabe was removed from power by the army. It is the Zanu-PF Central Committee, which dismissed him as leader of the party. The war veterans called for a solidarity march and you saw that there was a sea of people in Harare in November last year. The people from all walks of life, even threatened to go to Cde Mugabe’s blue roof residence as his resignation took long. After Zanu-PF Central Committee had dismissed him from the party, we then decided to move a step further and remove him as Head of State. We then teamed up as parliamentarians from MDC-T and Zanu-PF to do the process of impeaching him.</blockquote>

Mugabe Was Not Removed By Army Says Zanu-PF Official

Addressing war veterans, collaborators, widows of the war veterans and their children as well as Zanu-PF Matabeleland North members at the party’s provincial offices in Lupane, Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans’ Association (ZNLWVA) secretary general, Victor Matemadanda, says November 18 should be declared a public holiday to celebrate the gains of Operation Restore Legacy which saw the removal of Robert Mugabe by the military.
Said Matemadanda:
<blockquote>We fought for this legacy and we want to thank Zimbabweans from across the political and racial divide for supporting this national cause. We propose that 18 November be declared a national purpose day to thank people of Zimbabwe who joined in the march in saying Mugabe must go regardless of race, political affiliation and tribe. As the SG for the war veterans association, I will invite all Zimbabweans to a celebration party where no slogans will be chanted to thank people for the job they did. It’s the people of Zimbabwe who also facilitated the return of the President from exile.</blockquote>

"18 November Should Be Declared A Public Holiday": War Veterans

Former vice president Phelekezela Mphoko is reported to have threatened Mrs Nonhlanhla Ndlovu, the chief executive officer of the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), with unspecified action. Mphoko accused her of issuing a directive which stopped the salary of his daughter, Dr Sikhumbuzo Mphoko, after the doctor missed two weeks of work without authorisation when the Zimbabwe Defence Forces launched the military takeover in November 2017.
Speaking to the Sunday News, Ndhlovu said:
<blockquote>When they returned they reported for work but we had ceased the salary of one of the former VP’s daughters as she had not reported for duty for a continuous period of 14 days. We had no problems with the other one as she had followed the correct procedure of doing things here.
With regards to the other one, Mphoko contacted me and threatened me with unspecified action accusing me of being behind the ceasing of the salary of his daughter. I felt threatened and disappointed. I felt threatened because he used strong language against me which I can’t repeat. I was disappointed because I expected him to know what happens when someone just stops reporting for duty without following the necessary procedures. I expected him to know better as he once served as the country’s VP.</blockquote>
Due to the threats, the issue was forwarded to Ndlovu’s superiors. This resulted in Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health And Child Care, Major General Gerald Gwinji writing to Mphoko explaining the procedure.

Mphoko Threatens To Deal With Hospital Boss Over Daughter's Salary

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Retitred Lieutenant General Sibusiso Moyo has said that the military intervention that led to the resignation of Robert Mugabe and the subsequent elevation of Emmerson Mnangagwa to the presidency was not a coup but a spontaneous reaction by the people of Zimbabwe.
Moyo said this at a reorientation workshop for Zimbabwe’s heads of diplomatic missions yesterday. Said Moyo:
<blockquote>It (change of Government) was a spontaneous reaction of the people of Zimbabwe. I know this is a question you are normally going to be facing. It was not a military takeover; it was a reaction of all institutions of the State. Strong institutions led by the military, the people themselves who demanded change, the Parliament, the political party which was Zanu- PF including the judiciary who then ruled it was compliant to the constitution. So it is not and it was never a military takeover, it was a spontaneous reaction by the people of Zimbabwe.</blockquote>

On Monday, the Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) Lieutenant-General Phillip Valerio Sibanda announced the end of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces’ Operation Restore Legacy. Here is the full text of his statement.

PRESS STATEMENT BY THE COMMANDER ZIMBABWE NATIONAL ARMY: LIEUTENANT GENERAL PHILLIP VALERIO SIBANDA:
18 DECEMBER 2017
Good Morning Zimbabwe!!
The Defence and Security Services, come before you, once again, to pronounce the end of ‘Operation Restore Legacy’.
‘Operation Restore Legacy’ was launched on 13 November 2017 and its main objective was to remove criminals that had surrounded the former President resulting in anxiety and despondency amongst our people. While some of the individuals have been accounted for, others skipped the country. This notwithstanding, the objectives of the operation have to a large extent been achieved. Besides the above-mentioned objective, Operation Restore Legacy has had wider implications on the political, economic and social activities of our people. In this regard, a new political dispensation has been ushered-in to take Zimbabwe into its rightful place within the SADC and the world at large.
The nation will recall that before the statement that was issued by the Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces, General Constantino Guveya Dominic Nyikadzino Chiwenga on 13 November 2017, many political economic and security events had taken place all of which had the effect of causing anxiety and despondency among the generality of our people, as well as destabilizing the Defence and Security Services of our country. The General’s statement was followed by a series of political events, the highlights of which were the resignation of the former President, Cde RG Mugabe, from the seat of power; followed by the inauguration of His Excellency, President Emerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, as the second executive President and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces since the country’s Independence in 1980. Since then the appointment of a new cabinet on 30 November 2017, and the holding of the Extra-Ordinary Congress of the ruling ZANU-PF Party and many other events are now history which we have all been witnesses to. As a result of these political developments, normalcy has returned to our country. It is for this reason that as your Defence and Security Services we announce the end of ‘Operation Restore Legacy’ today, the 18th December 2017.
We want to take this opportunity to thank all Zimbabweans for their support, patience and understanding during the five weeks of ‘Operation Restore Legacy’. We understand and regret the inconvenience and anxiety that this operation might have caused in certain circles of our nation, but as most of our people would agree, this was all for the good of our nation. 
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the various Security Services who participated in the Operation for their diligence: courteousness when dealing with the public and commitment to duty. We also want to make special mention of the Veterans of our liberation struggle and former detainees and war collaborators for their mobilization efforts which resulted in the massive turnout by Zimbabweans for the solidarity march on 19 November 2017. This day was historic and will be remembered for generations to come.
As Operation Restore Legacy comes to an end, it is our hope as your Defence and Security Services that our people will remain united, shun corruption, be law abiding and focus on working hard for the development of our country. In this regard, we are all reminded by what the President said in his inaugural speech at the National Sports Stadium on 24 November 2017 and I quote “As we focus on recovering our economy, we must shed misbehaviours and acts of indiscipline which have characterised the past. Acts of corruption must stop forthwith. Where these occur swift justice must be served to show each and all that crime and other acts of economic sabotage can only guarantee ruin to perpetrators”
Furthermore, your Defence and Security Services would like to remind all Zimbabweans to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious objects and individuals to law enforcement agents. This is because some of the members of the G40 cabal that had surrounded the former Head of State are now bad-mouthing the country from foreign lands where their intentions to harm the peace and tranquility that exist in our country have been pronounced. It is, therefore, the duty of every Zimbabwean to ensure that these malcontents and saboteurs and others of like mind are not allowed to succeed.
Today as the Defence Forces handover all normal day to day policing duties to the Zimbabwe Republic Police we to urge all our citizens to allow for a smooth transition
Members of the public are urged to respect, support and cooperate with the Police as they execute their constitutional mandate. 
On the other hand, the Zimbabwe Republic Police are expected to fully take over their responsibilities and perform according to their constitutional mandate and Client Service Charter. 
As I conclude my statement which I make on behalf of the Defence and Security Services, I want to once again thank all our citizens and salute you for your resilience which has gotten us to where we are today as a nation, despite the many challenges that have confronted us. It is our belief that with clearer and better coordinated plans for the resuscitation of our economy, coupled with the existence of peace and political stability, our combined efforts to turnaround our economy will pay dividends in the very near future. 
Further, as we prepare for the elections in 2018, it is our wish that the campaigning and the voting itself on the day, takes place in an environment of peace and tranquility. And here again I want to quote the President where he said in his closing remarks to the ZANU PF Extra-Ordinary Congress on 15 December 2017, ” I would also urge our members to remain peaceful before and after elections. We do not condone any acts of violence” 
Let us all work for a peaceful and prosperous Zimbabwe.

Full Text: Military's Statement On End Of Operation Restore Legacy, Return Of ZRP

The Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Lieutenant General Phillip Valerio Sibanda announced the end of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces’ Operation Restore Legacy at a press conference held on Monday. The press conference was held at the Josiah Magama Tongora Barracks, previously King George VI (KG VI) Barracks.
Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) General Constantino Chiwenge was unable to attend the press conference as he had another engagement to attend to. The press conference was attended by high ranking officers from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces and Security Services who include Major General Douglas Nyikayaramba, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services boss, (retired) Major General Paradzai Zimondi and ZRP chief spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba.
Lieutenant General Sibanda announced that normalcy had returned to the country as Operation Restore Legacy had achieved its goals of removing the criminal elements that had surrounded former president Robert Mugabe. However, the general noted that some of the criminal elements are on the run.
The general also revealed that all security operations will now be handed over to the Zimbabwe Republic Police who will do their duties without any help from the Zimbabwe Defence Force. 
All soldiers are now returning to the barracks. General Sibanda cautioned the ZRP to do its duties professionally.
The United States Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee had expressed its concern over the fact that the military was still on the streets.  This came out when Tendai Biti of the MDC Alliance, Dewa Mavhinga of Human Rights Watch and writer Peter Godwin testified before the committee last week.  The three called on the US government to push President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government for reforms.

Army Announces End Of Operation Restore Legacy, ZRP To Resume Normal Duties, Soldiers To Return To Barracks

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) will embark on a joint operation with the Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Harare Municipal Police to evict vendors and illegal foreign currency dealers from the Harare CBD.
Vendors were stunned when they were notified that Operation Restore Legacy had been extended to them after they had wrongly assumed that the fall of former President Robert Mugabe would allow them to operate in peace. City of Harare spokesperson Mike Chideme said:
<blockquote>This is not a stop-gap measure. Vendors, mushika shika must just go where they belong. This is Operation Restore Legacy. We want to restore the sunshine legacy of Harare.
We have been conscientising vendors from yesterday (Saturday) and today Sunday giving awareness so that tomorrow (today) we don’t chase anyone. People must just go to their designated sites.</blockquote>
Pro-democracy activist and Tajamuka/Sesjikile Campaign founder Promise Mkwananzi, however, said that the government needed to provide employment for the vendors first. Said Mkwananzi:

Operation Restore Legacy Now Targeting Vendors

Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), Lieutenant-General Phillip Valerio Sibanda has blamed corrupt government officials for the socio-economic problems Zimbabwe is facing. The general said that even though Zimbabwe was under sanctions from Western countries, corruption had worsened the situation. Speaking at the passing out parade for 590 recruits at 53 Infantry Battalion in Kwekwe on Friday, Sibanda explained that this is what had motivated the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) to launch Operation Restore Legacy.
<blockquote>Some corrupt members of our Government had digressed from their core mandate of serving the people to robbing the people through corruption and fiscal indiscipline, taking advantage of their proximity to the former Head of State, Cde Robert Mugabe.
These acts of indiscipline aimed at enriching individuals were causing a lot of social and economic problems in the country and the defence forces had to intervene in order to restore normalcy in the country.
Let us forget about past mistakes and think ahead. I have hope that these hardships will be overcome as the new Government takes charge and outlines its development agenda. I need to emphasise the need for vigilance during this period as there are still some individuals who believe that they can reverse what has happened.</blockquote>

Corrupt Government Officials To Blame For The Socio-Economic Problems Says General Sibanda

Former Zimbabwe Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has been handed over to Zimbabwe by the Botswana government and is now in custody of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, it has been revealed this evening.
Ousted Zanu-PF politician and apparent G40 leader, Professor Jonathan Moyo tweeted this evening that Mphoko is currently being held by the military, and questioned why he had been assured of freedom given the development.
Moyo says that he was informed of the arrest by “impeccable sources”.

Mphoko was in Japan when the military took over the government in what they term Operation Restore Legacy. In an interview with the BBC, former Finance Minister Walter Mzembi admitted that he and his fellow  G40 Faction ministers did not take the military’s warnings seriously when the military warned that it would step in, if it was not satisfied with what was happening in politics. Mzembi was referring to the military takeover undertaken by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces which ultimately resulted in the resignation of former President Robert Mugabe, after 37 years as head of state. Mzembi also narrated what happened to him on the night when the military launched Operation Restore Legacy.

Former Foreign Affairs Minister Walter Mzembi attended yesterday’s Parliamentary session after reports he had sought refuge at the Cuban embassy after the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) launched Operation Restore Legacy.
Mzembi, who was considered to be part of the G40 Faction in Zanu-PF which was being targeted by ZDF, walked into the National Assembly around 1520hours while the House was in session. He was met with jeers from legislators. Mzembi went straight to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa who is Chirumhanzu-Zibagwe MPto greet her before doing the same to other Zanu-PF legislators. After he had greeted a handful of Zanu-PF MPs, Mzembi sat in the front row following proceedings.

Mzembi comes out of hiding, attends parliament

Flamboyant businessman and Zifa President, Phillip Chiyangwa has dismissed claims that he had been arrested. Chiyangwa said that the “fake news” was the work of people who wanted to tarnish his image. This comes after Voice of America and Studio 7 claimed that Chiyangwa had been arrested while trying to flee the country on Sunday. Chiyangwa was claimed to have been arrested with bags of cash.
Chiyangwa spoke to South African Publication, The Star on Monday and said he was disappointed with the lies being told about him. Said Chiyangwa

Former Ministers Saviour Kasukuwere and Jonathan Moyo have not been seen in public since the military takeover.  There are unconfirmed reports that the two have left the country and are in exile.   Former Minister of Finance, Ignatius Chombo, on the other hand, is in remand prison awaiting trial for charges of fraud, criminal abuse of office and contravening the Prevention of Corruption Act 
Of late, social media has been awash with rumours that Chiyangwa was arrested by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces during Operation Restore Legacy in which the military said that it was targeting the criminals around President Robert Mugabe.
