A Mutasa magistrate has ruled out foul play in the death of <a href="https://pindula.co.zw/Livingstone_Sunhwa">Livingstone Sunhwa</a>, a Form Four student at St Mathias Tsonzo High School in Mutasa District, whose remains were found in a bush several months after his disappearance from the school.
The Prosecutor-General’s Office ordered an inquest into the death at Mutasa Magistrates’ Court after Livingstone’s sister, Pride Sunhwa, who was also attending school at St Mathias High School, claimed that he was assaulted by the Police and school authorities shortly before his disappearance.
In his ruling, as reported by <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/foul-play-ruled-out-in-livingstones-death/">The Manica Post</a>, presiding magistrate Artwell Sanyatwe said evidence that had been presented before him suggested that Livingstone committed suicide by hanging. Said the magistrate:
<blockquote>
There is no doubt that Livingstone exhibited signs of truancy, which in my view contributed to his demise in this instance.
He either could not stand the embarrassing conduct of being arrested at the school in full view of his peers or feared the worst, hence his decision to take his own life.
Detectives who dealt with the matter both testified on the findings at the scene of the recovered human remains which they said were found about a kilometre from St Mathias Tsonzo High School in a secluded and bushy area.
A piece of cloth was found hanging from a tree, which matched a broken piece of cloth found among human remains or bones. Tests were conducted to establish whether these were Livingstone’s .
Their evidence was corroborated by expert tests and analysis, although the cause of death could not be ascertained.
With that in mind, the only logical conclusion that may be drawn is that the cause of death was due to suicide by hanging.
The chain of events taken cumulatively from the time of the deceased’s arrest, being taken to the police station, then back to the school and leaving the dormitory on the following morning supports that conclusion or the findings above.
Most of the witnesses who testified before me appeared to turn a blind eye to Livingstone’s behaviour and character. 
Evidence that emerged from this inquiry suggests that the deceased lacked parental care.
He was previously expelled from his former boarding school before being enrolled at St Mathias Tsonzo High School.
He was expelled from that school having stolen some food from the school’s dining room.
He also went missing from that school, only to be found after two days loitering outside the school premises.
This was exactly the same conduct at St Matthias Tsonzo High School.
There is no doubt that he exhibited signs of truancy, which in my view contributed to his demise.

Sanyatwe said his assessment of Livingstone’s sister’s statements in court and to the police were not consistent. He said:
<blockquote>
The statement to the police alludes to the use of a police [baton] in beating Livingstone several times on the back.
It also suggests this happened in her full view and in the staff room.
On the other hand, her testimony in court suggests otherwise, that she did not perceive or witness them going to the dormitory and could see her brother, Livingstone, being beaten and thereafter could not see him until after night studies when she saw him talking to the school headmaster.
The minor sister’s statement was critical as it appears to point to foul play, hence its analysis and assessment were paramount in the determination of this matter.
The rationale was that all other witnesses’ statements did not point directly to suspected foul play as they were either not present at the school upon the deceased’s arrest, or did not perceive anything which suggest foul play.

Livingstone’s father died under unclear circumstances while working in a mine in Mozambique.
Selina Tadya, who is the mother of Livingstone and Pride, lost her husband almost a decade ago and said was looking up to Livingstone to be the father figure for the family in future.
Tadya was based in South Africa where she was working while her two children were borders at St Mathias Tsonzo.

Magistrate Rules Out Foul Play In Livingstone Sunhwa's Death

The St Matthias Tsonzo High School head Maxwell Samboona is set to appear before a disciplinary hearing over the disappearance of the late former student Livingstone Sunhwa from the school.
Following the discovery of Livingstone’s skeletal remains six months later, Samboona was suspended for a few months before he resumed his duties at the school.
Livingstone (19) was buried in December 2022, a year after he had gone missing from St Matthias Tsonzo High School where he was doing Form Four.
The remains were buried after DNA tests conducted confirmed that they were Livingstone’s.
The disciplinary hearing will take place at the school on 18 May, with witnesses expected to give accounts of what they witnessed during Livingstone’s last days at the school.
The hearing comes shortly after an inquest into the teenager’s death began at Mutasa Magistrates’Court.
Livingstone’s mother, Selina Tadya, has since received a letter from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s Discipline Services requesting her to testify at the hearing.
When contacted for comment, Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Edward Shumba said he will not comment as the hearing is a confidential matter.
Tadya told <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/disciplinary-hearing-for-livingstone-sunhwas-headmaster/">The Manica Post</a> that although she had gone back to South Africa where she works, she will attend the hearing. She said:

Everything had been stagnant all along and I was about to lose hope in the justice system but now it seems as if we could get justice for Livingstone.
While this will not bring my son back, I feel that justice should still prevail.
Of course, it will bring back traumatic memories to my daughter and l, as well as those close to us, but we will continue seeking justice for Livingstone.

Livingstone’s 17-year-old sister, who was also learning at St Matthias Tsonzo at the time of his death, recently testified before Mutasa Magistrate, Artwell Sanyatwe at the ongoing inquest at the Magistrates’ Court.
She said she suspects foul play on her brother’s death as no one, including school authorities and the Zimbabwe Republic Police, informed her mother that Livingstone was missing from school, even several days after his disappearance.

Livingstone Sunhwa's Headmaster Set For Disciplinary Hearing

An inquest into the death of Livingstone Sunhwa has begun at Mutasa Magistrates Court.
Livingstone (19) was a Form Four learner at St Matthias Tsonzo High School and went missing from the school in December 2021.
His remains were found six months later and were buried in December last year, a year after he went missing.
The police claimed Livingstone had committed suicide after being accused of stealing some food items from the school tuckshop.
<a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/inquest-into-livingstone-sunhwas-death-begins/">The Manica Post</a> reported that the inquest hearings will see witnesses to the events prior to Livingstone disappearance testifying before Mutasa magistrate, Artwell Sanyatwe.
Livingstone’s 17-year-old sister, Pride, who was also learning at St Matthias Tsonzo at the time of his disappearance, appeared before Sanyatwe on Wednesday.
Pride, who is now studying at another school, said she suspects foul play on her brother’s death. She said:

0n December 5, 2021, I saw Livingstone coming from the hostels with some teachers and policemen.
Livingstone was being held by the collar by one of the policemen and they led him into the staff room.
They were demanding that he shows them how he had entered the staff room.
I then heard sounds that suggested that someone was being beaten inside the staff room and eventually I heard Livingstone crying and screaming, asking for them to stop.
As soon as other students started to gather, we were dispersed and ordered to go to our hostels.
After night study, I saw Livingstone standing outside and he had no shoes. That is the last time I saw him.

She said she ended up calling her mother who was in South Africa to inform her of Livingstone’s disappearance.
Another witness, Lynette Chapungu, told the court that she discovered pieces of cloth, a blanket and some shoes that belonged to Livingstone.
She said she first saw the items towards the end of December 2021 after her grandchildren had alerted her. Said Chapungu:

My grandchildren told me that they had seen the items in the bushes and I went there to collect them as I thought they belonged to my niece.
However, she denied owning the items so I took them back to the area where I had found them.
That was until June 2022 when the police came to investigate Livingstone’s disappearance.
Prior to the police’s investigations, I did not know that there was a student who had gone missing at the school.

Chapungu, however, told the court that she does not suspect foul play on Livingstone’s death.
Sanyatwe remanded the matter to April 28 2023 when three police officers who are dealing with the matter are expected to testify.
DNA tests conducted on the remains confirmed that they were indeed Livingstone’s remains.
The skeletal remains were buried in December 2022, a year after he went missing from the school.

Inquest Into Livingstone Sunhwa's Death Begins

The late St Matthias Tsonzo High School learner Livingstone Sunhwa’s skeletal was buried on Sunday, 09 October 2022 at Dangamvura Cemetery in Mutare.
However, St Matthias Tsonzo High School authorities and learners were not present at the funeral and burial.
Speaking during an interview with <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/new-livingstone-laid-to-rest/">The Manica Post</a> on the sidelines of the burial, Livingstone’s uncle, Wakinsi Njunga said:
<blockquote>
What happened at the school is pure evil and we will keep demanding justice for Livingstone.
We were honestly not expecting anyone from the school to show up because all along they never showed any care that our child was missing.
This is a school run by a church and it just shocked us that the responsible authority never contacted us or made any follow-ups but we had little hope that they would make it here today to at least say goodbye to Livingstone.

Livingstone was buried more than 10 months after his disappearance from the school.
The burial follows the DNA results that recently concluded that the skeletal remains that were found in the schoolyard belonged to Livingstone.
The burial took place although his palms and feet are yet to be found.
In an interview with The Manica Post, Livingstone’s mother, Selina Tadya said the family will continue seeking justice for her son. She said:

I do not think that I will ever recover from his death. Livingstone was a respectful child with whom I had faith and loved.
All I pray for is that the relevant authorities deliver justice towards my son’s death which was under unclear circumstances.

Livingstone was last seen at the school on 6 December last year, and his remains were found on 24 June at a nearby stream in the schoolyard.

There was a teacher on duty whom I asked why they were beating my brother and he said it was because he had stolen.
I asked if they had called my mother and he said they had not. When they were done beating him, he could no longer speak.
All this happened in full view of the students because we were just returning from break time.
… I last saw him at the admin block standing with the head, but I could not talk to him.

Livingstone Sunhwa Finally Laid To Rest

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confirmed that the DNA tests conducted on the human remains suspected to be those of Livingstone Sunhwa yielded positive results.
In a statement, ZRP said the DNA results were obtained and handed over to Livingstone’s family on Wednesday, 21 September. Said ZRP:

The ZRP confirms that Livingstone Sunhwa’s DNA results were obtained and handed over to his family on 21/09/22. The results were positive.

DNA tests conducted on human remains found about a kilometre away from St Mathias Tsonzo High School in Watsomba have established that the remains belong to Livingstone Sunhwa, a pupil who disappeared from the school in December 2021.

No arrests have been made so far but the school head, Maxwell Sambona remains suspended, pending investigations.

Livingstone Sunhwa’s Sister Reveals His Last Moments

Selina Tadya, the mother of missing St Mathias Tsonzo High School learner, Livingstone Sunhwa, believes her son was murdered and wants his spirit to torment the killers.
Livingstone went missing from the Anglican Church-run school on 6 December after he was briefly arrested by the police for stealing snacks from the school’s tuckshops.
Human remains that are suspected to be Livingstone’s were discovered last Friday in a thicket that is a stone’s throw from the school.
Speaking to The Manica Post, Tadya revealed that the body parts were strewn all over the place, with some of them missing. She said:
<blockquote>
It is like a part of my soul has been removed. It is painful for a parent to lose a child. Only affected parents can relate to what I am going through.
The fact that he disappeared at the hands of those who were supposed to take care of him makes the pain worse.
Whoever is responsible was insensitive and should have considered the life of my child. 
I feel a lot of pain and emotional trauma far beyond imagination. His spirit should fight back and torment his killers.
Fight your killers my son. Never give them rest. Fight until they own up and disclose the whole truth about what happened to you.
No amount of appeasement can bring back my son. Money does not buy life. I just want them to suffer the same ordeal my son went through.
What can they do to replace Livingstone? Where will I find him?

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) took over the investigations into Livingstone’s disappearance and is in the process of conducting DNA tests to establish whether the human remains are Livingstone’s.
Tadya said she single-handedly laboured to raise Livingstone and his sister, Pride, following the death of their father in 2010. She said:
<blockquote>
When you lose a husband, you become a widow; when you lose your parents, you become an orphan; but when you lose your child, there is not even a term for it.
That is how awful it is. I am barely existing. I have spent every waking moment trying not to think about what happened to my son.
I never imagined picking his scattered bones, I had hoped to find him alive. I lost my breath when I saw his shoes, belt and those remains. Our family is failing to accept this.
Since the discovery of the human remains, nobody from the school or the church has reached out to us. Nobody has come just to empathise with us or just to say they are sorry – just a sorry.
On Sunday, we went to the school with the intention of proceeding to the scene where the remains were discovered. The headmaster was present but he refused to come out and meet us.
Till this day (Tuesday), I have not received any message from either the school or the church despite the fact that my son disappeared from their institution.

Livingstone’s Mother Wants Son's "Spirit" To Torment "Killers"

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has suspended the headmaster of St Mathias Tsonzo High School, Maxwell Sambona, in connection with the disappearance of a learner in December 2021.
St Mathias Tsonzo High School pupil, Livingstone Sunhwa (19), went missing from the school on 6 December last year and the public has criticised the school for not handling the case properly.
Body parts widely believed to be those of Livingstone were discovered in a forest about a kilometre away from the school last week.
The ministry said the headmaster has been suspended pending the finalisation of investigations into the matter.
Manicaland Provincial Education Director, Richard Gabaza confirmed Sambona’s suspension to The Manica Post. He said:

Yes, we have suspended the headmaster (Mr Maxwell Sambona). As a ministry, we are equally concerned, and we really want to get to the bottom of the matter by looking into a number of grey areas that we feel are not clear.
The reason for the suspension of the headmaster is to pave the way for the smooth flow of investigations.

Results of the DNA test to ascertain the identity of the body parts are yet to be released.

Missing Student: Headmaster Suspended

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (MOPSE) has called for calm as authorities continue to investigate the <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/06/10/where-is-livingstone-high-school-student-missing-since-december-6-2021-parents-demand-answers/">disappearance of Livingstone Sunhwa</a> who was a student at <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/St_Mathias%27_Tsonzo_Secondary">St Matthias’ Tsonzo High School</a> in December 2021. The statement comes after police discovered remains presumed to be of Livingstone. In a statement seen by Pindula News, MOPSE spokesperson, Mr <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Taungana_Ndoro">Taungana Ndoro</a> expressed regret to the family. He said:

<h2>PRESS STATEMENT ON LIVINGSTONE SUNHWA </h2>
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education empathizes with the family, relatives and friends of Livingstone Sunhwa (19) who has now been presumed dead after having been missing from St Matthias Tsonzo High School on 5 December 2021.
The Ministry had since started its investigations on the whereabouts of the missing pupil but had not made any credible leads when on 24 June 2022 reports of remains allegedly resembling Livingstone Sunhwa were discovered in a shallow grave dose to St Matthias Tsonzo High School. 
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education remains committed to the safety, health and protection of all pupils, teachers and staff members at all schools and now awaits the law to take its course and due process and diligence to be done for the establishment of the facts surrounding the presumed death of Livingstone Sunhwa under the custody of St Matthias Tsonzo High School. 
The Ministry prays for calm and respect as it enhances its measures to ensure that all pupils within schools in Zimbabwe are safe, secure and protected. Lastly, the Ministry expresses regret to the family and to the nation for these unfortunate circumstances surrounding the disappearance of Livingstone Sunhwa.

Ministry Of Education Statement On Disappearance Of Livingstone Sunhwa

Preliminary findings of investigations into the disappearance of Livingstone Sunhwa, a St Mathias Tsonzo High student <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/06/10/where-is-livingstone-high-school-student-missing-since-december-6-2021-parents-demand-answers/">who went missing on the 6th of December 2021</a> suggest that he could have died from hanging from a tree. Remains suspected to be his were discovered last week about four meters from a piece of navy blue cloth and a shoelace found hanging from a tree. Below is the report:

<h2>INVESTIGATIONS MADE</h2>
On 23 June 2022, a team of detectives from CID Nyanga proceeded to St Mathias Tsonzo High School to make inquiries with the School authorities and the surrounding community.
Edmond Nyamombe Nr 63-629687 C42 aged 58, the senior teacher at the school was seen as the Headmaster was away 
The senior gave an insight of the arrest and release of the missing person by the police there was no any indication of assault.
Information was received from Linety Chapungu aged 28 of Samushonga village, Chief Mutasa, Mutasa who indicated that sometime in December 2021, while looking for firewood she saw a pair of black school shoes and a belt along Mashorani stream which is about a kilometre from the school. 
<h2>NEW DEVELOPMENTS</h2>
On 24 June 2022, a follow-up on the given information was made. Linety Chapungu led detectives to Mashorani stream where upon arrival, the following observations were made: –
A pair of size 6 black school shoes with no laces and a while vest inserted in one of the shoes were discovered.
A piece of navy blue cloth and a shoelace were found hanging from a tree about twenty meters from the pair of shoes.
Another shoelace and some suspected human hair were seen under the tree which is about four meters in height.
Suspected human bones and a skull were found scattered about four meters from the tree on which the cloth was found hanging.
A piece of navy blue cloth with a knot was found among the bones. 
The pair of school shoes, belt and vest were positively identified by Tapiwa Kabaya aged 17 a form five student at St Mathias Tsonzo High School. Tapiwa Kabaya was a classmate to the missing person and shared the same dormitory.
Scenes of Crime Manicaland and ZRP Mutasa were advised who attended the scene. Scenes of Crime Manicaland recovered the suspected human and conveyed to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

Preliminary Findings Of Investigations On Livingstone Sunhwa's Disappearance

Comedienne Madam Boss, real name Tarisai Cleopatra Chikocho, said that a search team has discovered what are believed to be the remains of missing St Mathias Tsonzo High School student, Livingstone Sunhwa, buried near the boarding school in Mutare.
In a video posted on her Facebook page, Madam Boss said the search team dug up a skull, legs, ribs and school shoes suspected to be those of Livingstone close to the school on Friday afternoon.
The comedienne suggested that the 19-year-old was murdered, saying “they made people search for the child the whole day yet they knew where they buried him”.
Chikoto insisted that school authorities knew about the alleged murder of Livingstone. She said the authorities refused to give them hoes to use in their search for the missing pupil.
Speaking in a broken voice, Madam Boss said they suspected the school’s boarding master and the teachers knew that the pupil was murdered.
She said they conducted the search the whole day and almost gave up adding that “when the spirit of a person wants their remains to be found, it will help in the search.”
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) was yet to comment on the latest development.
Livingstone was reportedly last seen on the night of 5 December 2021 under the custody of the headmaster, Maxwell Sambona.
He was believed to have broken into the school’s tuck-shop with other unidentified pupils and stole biscuits, roasted corn (maputi) and Zap Nax chips, some of which were found stashed under his bed.
The teenager was arrested by the police who reportedly beat him up at the school’s assembly, took him to the station and later returned him to the school and handed him into his headmaster’s custody.
This was meant to allow him to write his Form Four final exams.
On 6 December, Livingstone could not be located as he was due to write one of his ZIMSEC papers.

Missing Student: Human Remains, School Shoes Found In Shallow Grave | Report

A pupil at St Mathias (Tsonzo) High School, Livingstone Sunhwa (19), who has been missing since December 2021 after he was allegedly linked to a break-in at the school’s tuck-shop, once disappeared for some days from his previous school.
According to The Manica Post, Livingstone went missing for two days from Tekwane High School in Plumtree and was located in Tsholotsho as he was en route to Bulawayo on foot.
Authorities at Tekwane High School reportedly had to drive Livingstone back to school.
He was later caught stealing food from the school kitchen, leading to his expulsion from the school.
Following his expulsion from Tekwane, Livingstone’s parents later enrolled him as a Form Three learner at St Mathias High School in Mutasa.
He later disappeared from St Mathias on 5 December 2021 after he allegedly broke into the school’s tuckshop and stole some items that were found stuffed under his bed.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nobert Muzondo, said Livingstone left his cellphone in the school dormitory before he went missing. Said Insp Muzondo:

Investigations carried out revealed that the wanted/missing person was once a leaner at Tekwane High School, Plumtree from 2018-2019 where he did Form One and Two.
There is clear evidence of shoeprints as well as the recovered groceries positively linking the wanted person to the commission of the offence at St Mathias (Tsonzo) High School.
Livingstone was then picked by the police for interviews and was later released into the custody of the school authorities where he later went missing from the school on December 5, 2021.
However, before disappearing, the accused person left his cellphone in the school dormitory from which evidence of communication indicates that he last communicated with a school mate indicating that he was proceeding somewhere to start a new life.
The wanted/missing indicated that he wasn’t going anywhere specifically but was just disappearing from this life and was starting something new elsewhere.
Selina Tadya (Livingstone’s mother) is aware of this since she is in the custody of the cellphone which was left by her son.
Judging from that last text message on Livingstone’s cellphone, he could have disappeared to a new place outside the country or could have committed suicide fearing the shame that he had brought upon himself after committing the offence.

Missing St Mathias High School Student: New Details Emerge

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is looking for a 19-year-old learner at St Matthias Tsonzo High School who allegedly disappeared in December 2021 following his release from police custody.
Livingstone Sunhwa (19) had been arrested on allegations of breaking into the school’s tuckshop and stealing groceries.
The stolen groceries were allegedly found tucked under his bed.
Police say they released Livingstone so that he could sit for his final English examinations.
But now the parties involved in the teenager’s disappearance are trading accusations.
The school tuckshop was broken into and authorities decided to bring in the police to investigate.
During investigations, it is said the police discovered shoeprints and traced them to the boys’ dormitory and further investigations revealed that Livingstone was the culprit.
Since he was a major at law, Livingstone was taken to Mutasa Police Station for further interrogations.
The headmaster, one Sambona, and two teachers, reportedly made a follow-up and negotiated with the police for Livingstone’s release.
However, the teenager allegedly disappeared the following morning, 6 December.
Six months have passed with no information about the boy’s whereabouts which has prompted his mother, Selina Tadya, to demand answers from the school authorities.
Tadya, who is originally from Dangamvura, Mutare, and is currently based in South Africa, said:

I am traumatised. Even if he had committed an offence, I was supposed to be informed of the action taken against him.
The police arrested my son and they wanted him to disclose his accomplices, which he did not do.
I pleaded with the headmaster to negotiate for his release so that he could sit for his exams while I work on the modalities to return to Zimbabwe and settle the matter with the school. I was ready to pay for the stolen goods.
The headmaster picked my son from police custody on December 5 on the understanding that he would call me so that I talk to him, but he did not do that.
He contacted me the following day, saying my son was missing and had not turned up for the English examination.
This forced me to make haste arrangements to travel to Zimbabwe and I went to the school on December 12 and spent a week looking for him in futility.
I then proceeded to Mutasa Police Station to lodge a missing person report.
… I suspect the school authorities had a hand in his disappearance. Why is the headmaster denying that my son was assaulted by the police?
Why didn’t he take action when he went missing? He was the last person to be seen with my son and should account for his whereabouts. I am appealing for justice.

Anglican Diocese of Manicaland registrar and spokesperson, Ashel Mutungura said:
<blockquote>
We are aware of the matter. On the morning of December 5, the tuck-shop assistant noticed that there was a break-in and some goods had been stolen.
The incident occurred on the heels of another break-in at the church tuck-shop where Food and Nutrition ingredients and utensils for practical exams had been stolen.
As a result, police were invited and during investigations, they detected some shoeprints leading to the boys’ hostel.
It was then discovered that Livingstone was the culprit after being found in possession of the stolen items.
He was 19 and being a major at law, the police took him for further interrogations after he refused to disclose his accomplices.
The next day, the headmaster and two teachers made a follow-up to the police to negotiate for his release so that he could sit for his English exam the following day.
He was taken back to the school and was handed over to the boarding master around 6 pm.
He actually slept in the hostel and left around 5 am on the pretext of preparing for the exams. It was then discovered that he had gone missing.
The teachers and ancillary staff formed a search party but failed to locate him.
We had to report the matter to the police since it involved a missing person.
We have done everything humanly possible to locate Livingstone. Everyone wants to know where he is.

ZRP spokesperson in Manicaland Province, Inspector Nixon Muzondo, said Livingstone is on the police’s wanted list. He said:

This matter was handled professionally by the police. The suspect was 19 and is treated as an adult.
He committed a crime that was reported by the school authorities to the police.
The stolen goods were recovered from underneath his bed. This is the evidence which linked him to the commission of the crime.
We released him at the behest of the school authorities for the purposes of writing the examination, but he disappeared to an unknown place.
He is on the police’s wanted list. We are treating him as a wanted person and a missing person.

Missing St Matthias Tsonzo High School Learner On Police Wanted List

The family of Livingstone Sunhwa (19) is demanding the safe return of the St Mathias Tsonzo High School student who reportedly went missing on the 6th of December 2021. Livingstone was arrested on December 5, a day after a break-in at the school tuckshop had been reported by the Anglican Diocesan of Manicaland, which runs the institution. Sunhwa was facing charges of unlawful entry and theft before his disappearance, and police are sweating over his whereabouts. Pindula News presents a statement by Livingstone’s family:

Police have denied charges of assaulting a student at St Mathias Tsonzo High School in Manicaland province, who went missing last year, a day before his “O” English examination on December 6.
  
Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Nobert Muzondo yesterday said they released Sunhwa in the custody of his headmaster, one Sandura after his arrest to allow him to write examinations. Muzondo said:

There was a break-in at St Mathias Tsonzo High School tuckshop and we made some investigations that (resulted in) Sunhwa being arrested, but we decided to release him in(to the) custody of his headmaster so that he can write his examination, but he disappeared.
We are treating the matter in two different ways, one as a wanted person by police and another as a missing person. What his parents are saying are lies, we never assaulted him. Sunhwa is facing unlawful entry and theft charges.

Diocesan registrar and lawyer Ashel Mutungura said the church was worried about Sunhwa’s disappearance.
