The Ministry of Health and Childcare has banned the sale and distribution of Johnson and Johnson baby powder in the country and ordered the destruction of the product following findings it caused cancer.
In a memorandum dated 24 May 2023 and addressed to all Provincial Medical Directors (PMDs), the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary Air Commodore Jasper Chimedza ordered the products to be destroyed. He wrote:

On 18 April 2023, an American television channel, Consumer News and Business Channel (CNBC) reported that Johnson and Johnson, an American multinational corporation, had assumed the liability to pay eight point nine billion United States Dollars (US$8.9 billion) to the medical industry in compensation over allegations that the company’s baby powder was causing cancer.
Research by the American Academy of Paediatrics unearthed that the talc used in the production of the baby powder was highly toxic due to contamination with carcinogen asbestos.
Tanzania Bureau of Standards on the 19th of April 2023, banned the importation and distribution and sale of Johnson and Johnson’s baby powder containing the talc ingredient.
The product is still popular in South Africa amid indications that most consumers are unaware of its potential risks.
Given the significant importation of health products by Zimbabwe from South Africa, there is a high risk that the contaminated baby powder could still be finding its way into the Zimbabwean market.
Ministry of Health and Child Care is banning the importation and distribution and sale of Johnson and Johnson’s baby powder containing the talc ingredient with immediate effect.
Environmental Health Officers and Technicians are advised to remove all Johnson and Johnson’s baby powder containing the talc ingredient from the market.
Inspectors are advised to document their findings and the products must be destroyed or recalled to the manufacturers.

Zimbabwe Bans Cancer Causing Johnson And Johnson Baby Powder

South Africa is reportedly planning to set up a massive COVID-19 vaccination drive that will see 200 000 people being vaccinated per day, Reuters reports.
The plan which was revealed to Sunday Times by the country’s Health Minister Zweli Mkhize reportedly states that:

<li>More than 2,000 vaccination sites will be set up.</li>
<li>The plan is based on the expected arrival of the first batch of 2.8 million Johnson &amp; Johnson vaccine doses at the end of April.</li>
<li>The plan is expected to start in May</li>
</ul>
The South Africa Government had previously bought AstraZeneca before their research stated that it doesn’t work effectively for the COVID-19 variant that is dominant in South Africa.

South Africa Planning To Vaccinate 200k People Against COVID-19 Per Day

South Africa this Saturday took delivery of 80 000 doses of the Johnson and Johnson <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/procure-johnson-johnson-vaccine-mdc-a-urges-govt/">COVID-19 vaccine</a> from Belgium. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine is believed to be 82 percent effective in preventing severe illness from the coronavirus variant first discovered in South Africa. The doses are reserved for frontline health care workers. Watch the video below for more.

SA Receives 80k Jabs Of Johnson And Johnson Vaccine

MDC Alliance has said the Zimbabwean government, in its endeavour to flatten the Coronavirus curve, must engage other jurisdictions besides China to procure COVID-19 vaccines.
The party acknowledged that Zimbabwe received 200 000 doses from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Sinopharm_Vaccine">Chinese Sinopharm</a> but observes the jabs are not enough for the task at hand.
The party also raised issues to do with transparency in the manner it will be implementing the vaccination programme. In a statement, MDC Alliance also <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2021/02/22/govt-says-sinopharm-doesnt-need-any-further-research/">raised concern over the efficacy of the Sinopharm</a> vaccine and also urged the government to acquire the Johnson and Johnson vaccine which it said is cheaper.
Meanwhile, some say the Johnson and Johnson vaccine is yet to be approved by the FDA in America adding that they have just applied for emergency use at World Health Organisation and there no approval yet.
