The headmaster of Ivyluck College in Harare, Tafadzwa Chikohora (31), appeared in court on Wednesday facing charges of theft of trust property.
He is accused of stealing examination fees intended for three students preparing to sit for the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) O’ Level November 2024 examinations.
Chikohora was remanded in custody to Friday by Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
The complainant in the case is Lucky Sibanda, the director of the college, which offers classes from Form 1 to Form 6 but is not a registered ZIMSEC examination centre.
The court heard that in May of this year, the college was entrusted with US$729 in examination fees to register the three students at Ellis Robins High School, a legitimate ZIMSEC examination centre.
However, Chikohora allegedly misappropriated the funds for his personal use and failed to register the students as agreed.
To cover up his actions, he reportedly forwarded four falsified statements of entry, claiming that the students had been registered for the examinations.
In a further twist, Chikohora allegedly created counterfeit ZIMSEC examination papers, allowing the students to take these fraudulent exams at the laboratory of Ellis Robins High School.
Prosecutors revealed that the scheme unravelled when the students began discussing the contents of the examination papers and discovered that they had faced different questions despite sitting for the same exam.
This discrepancy raised suspicions, leading to the exposure of Chikohora’s deceitful actions.

Headmaster Steals Examination Fees And Delivers Fake ZIMSEC Papers To Candidates

The Headmaster and Deputy Head of a secondary school in Chiredzi District were recently arraigned before the Triangle Magistrates’ Court facing criminal abuse of duty charges.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the case emerged after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) received an anonymous tip alleging that the two had improperly included their children in the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) programme. BEAM is intended to assist underprivileged students.
However, the school head and his deputy bypassed established procedures to benefit their own children.
A thorough investigation revealed that each individual had unlawfully received US$120 for the year 2022 through this scheme. As a result, they were arrested and brought to trial.
Upon conviction, the court sentenced both defendants to 20 months in prison. However, 6 months of the sentence were suspended for 5 years, contingent on their good behaviour.
Additionally, 2 months were suspended on the condition that they pay restitution to the Social Services Department.
The remaining 12 months of their sentence were also suspended, provided they completed 420 hours of community service.

The headmaster and deputy head of a school in Chiredzi were found guilty of putting their own kids in a program meant for poor students. They got money that wasn't supposed to go to them. The court gave them a sentence of 20 months in prison, but they only had to serve some of that time. They also have to do community service and pay back the money they took. This is wrong because they were supposed to help needy children, not use the money for themselves.

Headmaster And Deputy Head In Chiredzi Convicted Of BEAM Fraud

A school head from Nyanga escaped jail after the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court elected to warn and caution him before discharging him following his arrest for slapping a learner.
Simon Kwakurai (42) who heads Sanhai Primary School pleaded guilty to charges of assault.
Brief facts of the matter are that on 22 May 2023, the complainant was at school when the school’s development committee (SDC) members went around sending students with outstanding fees home.
Despite the illegality of the practice, school development committees across the country persistently turn away learners who haven’t paid their tuition fees.
Moreover, headmasters and teachers often resort to corporal punishment as a disciplinary measure, although it has been outlawed.
In the case of Kwakurai, the SDC members asked the complainant to go home but he refused to go arguing that his father had successfully pleaded with the headmaster to pay at a later date
The SDC members took the learner to the headmaster who slapped him five times in the face. He started bleeding through the nose and reported the matter to the Police leading to Kwakurai’s arrest.
The headmaster was arraigned before the Nyanga Magistrates’ Court where he was warned and cautioned before he was discharged.

Headmaster Dragged To Court For Slapping Student

The headmaster at Mugadza Primary School in Makoni District, Manicaland Province, is under investigation by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education for allegedly sexually harassing and victimising a female teacher at the school.
The school head, Tendai Mada, was this week reported by a teacher to Zimbabwe Rural Teachers’ Union for allegedly making sexual advances on her.
<a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/head-under-investigation-for-sexually-harassing-teacher/">The Manica Post</a> reported that the female teacher (name supplied) also alleged that the headmaster harassed her after she rejected his advances.
The married teacher, who was deployed to the school this term after being transferred from another institution, alleged that Mada made sexually explicit comments to her on the very first day she assumed duty.
A complaint filed at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s Makoni District office by the teacher reads in part:

I humbly seek help from the union. I went to Mugadza Primary School on January 1, 2023, and from day one, the head, Mr. Mada, started making advances on me.
He told me, ‘Ndingade kuona zvidya zvenyu nedumbu renyu’ (I want to see your thighs and stomach). He asked me if I had a boyfriend and if I would want one.
The head told me that he had a dream and in that dream, he had seen me, but I quickly rebuked him and told him that I was married.
In fact, he even saw my husband. When I went to ask for permission to go and access my salary he said, ‘Wakuda kuti ndikubvumidze asi wakandiramba.’ (You want me to sanction your trip when you spurned my advances.
The head continued to say a lot of sexual innuendos, but I strongly rebuked him. When he noticed that I was not relenting, he turned into a tiger.
He started being cruel and harsh towards me. He embarrasses me in front of my workmates.
</blockquote>
Makoni District Schools Inspector, George Chidhakwa confirmed receiving the letter, saying the matter is now under investigation.
When contacted for comment, Mada could neither deny nor confirm the allegations.
He said he had responded to the allegations and the district office had a copy of his response.
Zimbabwe Rural Teachers’ Union president, Martin Chaburumunda told The Manica Post that sexual harassment of teachers is rife in schools, but most of the victims suffer in silence.

Headmaster Under Investigation For Sexually Harassing Teacher

The George Stark High School headmaster, Masimba Mupavaenda, sparked debate on social media platforms after he was filmed using a pair of scissors to plough through the hair of all learners who did not have proper haircuts on Monday.
The video of the “headmaster-cum-barber” posted on social media <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/school-headmaster-sparks-debate-over-haircuts/">by The Herald</a> ignited debate on Tuesday, with some commentators in support of the school head while others said his conduct was inappropriate.
Mupavaenda said he cut the learners’ hair because the school does not tolerate “stylish haircuts”. He said:

We discovered that the calibre of learners at George Stark have a tendency of coming to school unprepared in the sense that as you have just seen, there are some who still have stylish hair, some have tints and all sorts of hairstyles which do not promote good learning at a learning environment.
So that being the case, I decided not to send them back home because they will loiter until it was time to go home.

Commenting on the video, a Twitter user, @Ham2Hamandishe, voiced his support for the headmaster saying:

School Headmaster Sparks Debate Over Clampdown On "Stylish" Haircuts

A school head based in Highfield, Harare, is in trouble for sending his nude picture to his married personal assistant.
James Mukwirimba, the headmaster of Kudzanayi Primary School, allegedly sent his nude picture to Privillage Zhou, who resisted his sexual advances.
Mukwirimba clashed with Privillage’s husband, Crispen Zhou after he saw the picture in messages sent to his wife.
Crispen reported the matter to the Provincial Director of Education.
Mukwirimba confirmed sending the nudes to his personal assistant when contacted for his comment by <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/head-sends-pa-his-nude/">H-Metro</a>. He said:
<blockquote>
It’s a long story, my brother. It is true that the nude photograph is mine, I am the one who sent it to Crispen, not his wife (personal assistant).
We had a quarrel whereby Crispen was accusing me of dating his wife and he called me names.
Out of anger, I told him that handidanane nemukadzi wako asi iwe ndiwe wandingatoita mukadzi.
Following that heated argument, I sent him the nude photograph, but I now regret it because he went on to post it to several people, who include my girlfriend.
Crispen approached my bosses over the matter, and Privillage applied for a transfer, but later withdrew the application.
This incident happened sometime last year, and Crispen took it to the province.
We were called and agreed to settle the matter. Crispen went on to sign an affidavit that he would not take up the case further.
He demanded US$500 for sending the photo to his wife, and I refused to pay. That is why he is pursuing it. It’s like he is after extorting me.

Mukwirimba’s alleged girlfriend is Otilia Nyakabawu, a Grade 7 teacher at the same school.
Meanwhile, Crispen told H-Metro that Mukwirimba was a pervert who has destroyed several marriages. He said:

He wrecked one of the teachers’ marriages and wanted to do the same to mine.
I want to thank my wife for exposing him, and I took the matter to his bosses.
He was bedding a married student teacher, and her marriage ended.
</blockquote>
Privillage confirmed the matter, saying she is now under pressure both from home and at work.
Otilia confirmed dating Mukwirimba and said Crispen sent the nudes to her just to expose them. She said:

Crispen sent Mukwirimba’s nudes after learning about our affair.
I am not sure about Mukwirimba’s marital status although he looks like a married man. Unongozivawo kuti haungabvunzisise boss wako.

Headmaster In Trouble For Sending Nudes To Married Personal Assistant

Murwira Primary School headmaster, only identified as Mr Mugonesi is under investigation by the police for sexual abuse of pupils after images of him squeezing their private parts leaked online.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Midlands Province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the development. He said:

I can confirm that we have received the case and investigations into the matter are currently underway.

Reports claim that the school recorded a 0% pass rate in the 2022 Grade Seven Zimbabwe School Examination Council (ZIMSEC) examinations.
One of the parents who commented in a WhatsApp group alleged that the school head was getting intimate with schoolchildren. Said the parent:

We are calling on organisations to do with girl child rights and protection to intervene.

Police Investigating Gokwe School Head For Sexually Abusing Learners

The school head and a teacher at Thokozani Secondary School, Insiza district, Matabeleland South Province have been arrested on allegations of conniving to leak a Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) Ordinary Level paper.
The headmaster, Gainmore Muzezewa, and the teacher, Howard Zipore, are set to appear before a magistrate at Filabusi Magistrate Court.
In a statement on Friday, ZIMSEC warned examination centre administrators that they risk arrest and prosecution for any leakages of exam papers.
ZIMSEC said some candidates, examination administrators, and members of the public have been arrested and have appeared before the courts for leaking examination papers. It said:

Candidates who had pre-access to question papers at different examination centres were identified. As a result of the investigations some candidates, examination administrators, and members of the public have been arrested and have appealed before the courts.
Examination centre administrators who were the source of the leakage were apprehended together with their distribution networks.
The Investigation team has arrested a man who fraudulently registered a SIM Card line in the name of ZIMSEC Mutare. Masquerading as a ZIMSEC official, he was found selling fake certificates and some question papers.
The Police Forensic Unit is currently tracing all Candidates who shared the Question Papers on various social media platforms, including WhatsApp and Telegram. More candidates have been apprehended and arraigned before the courts. The law has and is taking its course.
… Candidates who had pre-access to question papers continue to be identified and in line with the ZIMSEC Act, Section 34. will have examination results cancelled.

School Head, Teacher Arrested Over ZIMSEC Exams Leak

Three school heads from Masvingo Province died in an accident on Thursday morning while travelling to Harare.
According to <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/3-masvingo-school-heads-die-in-accident-full-details/">The Mirror</a>, the three school heads were travelling to Harare to plead to the Social Welfare Department for the release of Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM) Funds for their pupils when the accident occurred.
They were all from special schools for physically and mentally children. The learners had not received a cent from the government to run the schools since the third term opened on 4 September.
Two of the heads, Ratidzo Zimcare’s Sabelo Zuvurawa and Margaretha Hugo (Copota) School for the Blind Primary head, Clever Madzokere died on the spot.
The third school head, Tapiwa Madamombe, of Margaretha Hugo Secondary School passed away on Sunday at Harare Hospital.
A fourth headmaster, Stanley Tavonga Feya of Henry Murray School for the Deaf was lucky to escape possible injury or death as he got to the pick-up point late and was left behind.
The vehicle, a Ford Ranger, belonged to Margaretha Hugo Schools and was donated by Leonard Cheshire.
It reportedly overturned several times near Mvuma at around 7:30 AM. It was being driven by Madzokere.
The Mirror reported sources as saying mist covered the road when they reached Fairfields. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and overturned as Madzokere tried to steer it back onto the road.
Feya confirmed the travel arrangements to The Mirror, saying the four school heads agreed to meet at Wigley House in Masvingo at 6 AM and use the Margetha Hugo vehicle for the trip. He said:

We had agreed to travel to Harare together to meet the Social Welfare department heads to air our concerns.
Schools opened recently and we have not received a cent from Social Welfare which funds our operations.
I was overwhelmed with work and arrived late at Wigley House and found the other three gone.
It is shocking how they died while travelling to create a better environment for their pupils.

Meanwhile, the director of Chosen Generation, an organisation which works with children with disabilities, Vimbai Chase, said they were devastated by the loss. She said:

We had just planned a talent show at Margaretha Hugo School for next week.
It is indeed a sad day for us as we worked closely with the deceased three heads.

Three School Heads Perish In Car Accident

The headmaster of Tennyson Hlabangana High School in Bulawayo reportedly committed suicide by hanging at his brother’s house in Magwegwe suburb.
Lwelizwe Edson Bhebhe (42) of Lobengula Extension suburb was on Monday night found lying lifeless on the ground with a rope around his neck.
Bhebhe reportedly killed himself after saying that he had “failed the school system and the school system had failed him”.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson in Bulawayo Province confirmed the headmaster’s suspected suicide. He said:
<blockquote>
Police in Bulawayo are investigating a case of sudden death by hanging which occurred in Magwegwe suburb, Bulawayo on the 30th of May; the deceased is Lwelizwe Edson Bhebhe, a male adult aged 42 of Lobengula Extension who is a headmaster at Tennyson Hlabangana High school.
The now-deceased visited his brother in Magwegwe on the 28th of May 2022 and could not find anyone at the house but he stayed.
On the 30th of May 2022 at around 1900hrs, the brother of the now-deceased came back home and found the deceased’s body lying on the ground with a rope around his neck. Another piece of the rope was tied to the roof truss.
The deceased left a suicide note that stated that he has failed the school system and the system has failed him.
The informant made a report at ZRP Magwegwe and the body was conveyed to the mortuary.

Headmaster Commits Suicide, Leaves "School System Failed Me" Note

Gospel Hip Hop artist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mudiwa_Hood" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mudiwa Hood</a>, who rose to fame with his hit songs such as “Ndaita mari” and “Anhu acho tisu” says he has been touched by the plight of a Mutoko headmaster whose photo went viral on social media after he allegedly stole green maize.
Posting on microblogging site Twitter, Mudiwa asked for the man’s whereabouts so that he can render him assistance. He wrote:

Mudiwa Hood Reaches Out To 'Maize-stealing Headmaster'

A school headmaster was reportedly caught stealing green maize cobs in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Mutoko" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Mutoko</a>. The name of the school head was given, neither the day on which the alleged crime took place.
Prominent journalist <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Hopewell_Chin%27ono" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Hopewell Chin’ono</a> posted the photo of the headmaster on Twitter with the caption:

In a notice dated January 29, Public Service Commission (PSC) secretary Mrs Pretty Sunguro said they are set to recruit 734 school heads and deputies in Matabeleland region and Masvingo Province. The deadline for applications is March 2.
The vacancies are available in Bulawayo, Masvingo, Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South provinces. Primary and Secondary Education permanent secretary Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango said her ministry had recommended the recruitments and said the number was not unusual.
In Bulawayo Province, nine school heads are required; four for secondary and five for primary schools as well as four deputy heads for secondary schools and nine deputy heads for primary schools. 117 secondary school heads and 88 primary school heads, as well as 151 deputy heads for both primary and secondary schools will be recruited in Masvingo Province. Matabeleland North has 176 posts for deputy primary school heads and five deputy secondary schools heads. There are 175 vacant posts for deputy heads at primary school level in Matabeleland South.
The notice says applicants for the headmasters’ post must be holders of a degree with a relevant teaching subject and a relevant Master’s degree would be an added advantage. They must have at least two years’ experience as deputy head. Applicants for deputy head vacancies must also be university graduates and holders of primary or secondary teachers’ certificates or diplomas. They must also have a commendable work experience as senior teachers or should have occupied an equivalent grade.

Govt To Recruit 734 Heads

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education  has launched a probe against Mr Blessed Makhiwa who is the headmaster of Jibajiba Secondary School in Lupane for sexually abusing female pupils at his school.
Makhiwa allegedly impregnated a form four pupil and up to 7 pupils have confessed to their parents that they had sexual relations with him. Matabeleland North acting Provincial Education Director Mr Jabulani Mpofu confirmed to The Chronicle that they had received the complaint and that an investigation was underway. Said Mpofu:
<blockquote>I can confirm that we received a report to that effect but I cannot for now say the reports are true or false. The Lupane District Education Office is taking action on the matter. They are assembling their findings. They have engaged the parents and children who are assisting with information so that they can come up with a stand point on the investigations. Something is being done.</blockquote>
Jibajiba village head identified as Mr Ndlovu said one of the girls whom the headmaster expelled after being found hanging out with boys confessed that she is pregnant and that she was intimate with the headmaster.

Ministry launches probe amid claims Head sexually abused 7 pupils and impregnated form 4 student

School heads wore royal navy uniforms and conducted a procession in Harare’s Central Business District (CBD) yesterday as part of proceedings of the third edition of the Education Conference and Expo currently being held in the capital.
They marched from Ambassador House to the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) where the conference is being held until 1 September. <a href="http://www.sundaynews.co.zw/govt-scraps-allowances-school-heads-to-wear-uniforms/">Speaking to Sunday News</a>, Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango clarified that the choice to wear the uniform was not a directive from her ministry but a decision reached by the school heads during the preparatory meeting. Said Utete-Masango:
<blockquote>This was their decision. They said they want to show that they are one family by wearing the same colour during the procession. Normally provinces have their own colour codes but this time the heads decided that they want to come in one colour, royal blue shirts for men and the same colour blouses for ladies.</blockquote>
