Invictus Energy, an Australian oil and gas company has said gas samples retrieved from the successful Mukuyu-2 ST1 well campaign are set to reach the United States for laboratory analysis this week.
In its latest update on Tuesday, 13 February, Invictus said the results from the lab analysis are anticipated within 2 weeks and will provide confirmation of the samples’ hydrocarbon composition. It said:

Invictus Energy Limited (“Invictus” or “the Company”), is pleased to provide an update of the gas samples acquired from the Mukuyu-2 ST1 well and gas discovery at its 80% owned and operated Cabora Bassa project in Zimbabwe…
Following the two gas discoveries from the Upper and Lower Angwa reservoirs in recently completed Mukuyu-2 / ST1 drilling campaign, the downhole gas samples acquired have completed export procedures and are due to arrive in the United States for analysis at the end of this week.
Initial analysis is anticipated to be completed within the next two weeks following which the Company will provide the results as soon as available.

In December 2023, the oil and gas firm announced a second gas discovery at its Cabora Bassa project in Zimbabwe.
The discovery was made at the Mukuyu-2 well, which is located approximately 6.8 kilometres northeast of the Mukuyu-1 well. The Mukuyu-2 well was drilled using the Exalo Rig 202.
Invictus said during the drilling process, the Mukuyu-2 sidetrack well reached a total depth of 3,360 meters above the interval.

Invictus Sends Muzarabani Gas Samples To United States For Laboratory Analysis

Australian firm Invictus Energy has declared a gas find at its Muzarabani prospect in Zimbabwe.
Scott Macmillian, Invictus’ Managing Director, on Thursday, 07 December said that “the discovery represents one of the most significant developments in the onshore Southern Africa oil and gas industry for decades”.
In a statement, Mines and Mining Development Minister Zhemu Soda that the “discovery will have a positive impact on the economic and social development of Zimbabwe”. Read the statement:

The Government of Zimbabwe is pleased to announce that Geo Associates and its partners Invictus Energy and One Gas Resources have successfully declared a gas discovery in Zimbabwe through the ongoing exploration activities in Muzarabani.
This is a major discovery and represents one of the most significant developments in the onshore Oil and Gas Sector in the Southern Africa Region. The discovery is the first Triassic-aged hydrocarbon in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Geo Associates has delivered an exceptional result from the first two wells drilled in Mukuyu, opening up substantial room in their large portfolio of prospects and leads for further discoveries.
The results were shared as should be the norm have now been shared with the Government. The company has also proceeded to make this announcement at the Australian Stock Exchange as per listing requirements.
A total of four hydrocarbon samples were recovered to the surface from two separate zones in the Upper Angwa using the wireline formation testing tool.
The samples meet key international standards and; gas and fluid properties will be confirmed following laboratory testing.
Currently, the Company is conducting further appraisal and evaluation work to confirm the size and quality of the gas reservoirs, and to determine the optimal development plan.
The discovery also bodes well for other prospects and leads in the remainder of the larger Cabora Bassa Basin.
This discovery is a result of the long-term partnership between Geo Associates and the Government of Zimbabwe, with the Government providing an appropriate mining title and a conducive regulatory and fiscal environment for the project.
Zimbabwe is proud and grateful for this cooperation, and we are confident this will unlock the full potential of Zimbabwe’s oil and gas resources.
We believe that this discovery will have a positive impact on the economic and social development of Zimbabwe.

Invictus Energy Declares Gas Discovery In Zimbabwe

The majority of the 41 patients injured in an explosion that ripped apart streets in Johannesburg’s CBD during rush hour on Wednesday have been discharged from hospital.
Speaking during a media briefing at the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital on Thursday morning, Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko said that one man was killed, two were critically injured while another eight were seriously injured, and 30 sustained moderate injuries.
Only 11 patients remain in hospital after being injured in the explosion. 8 patients are being treated at the academic hospital while three remain in care at Netcare’s Mulbarton and Garden City hospitals.
Meanwhile, Egoli Gas, a piped natural gas reticulator, servicing more than 8 500 customers across various markets in the Greater Johannesburg area, said it was inspecting its pipeline network in Bree Street. The company said:

Egoli Gas would like to update the public in terms of the ongoing inspections of its pipeline network in the area of Bree Street, Joburg.
The pipeline running on the road servitude of Bree Street has been checked and is not damaged.
A small leak has been detected on the servitude pipeline at the corner of Bree and Eloff on a 100mm pipe. We believe the crack in the pipe has been caused by the collapse of the road. Our team is busy repairing this leak.
Egoli Gas notes that there are approximately 15 other utility lines in the same area, for example, a sewerage line that runs directly underneath the street.
We would like to reiterate that our pipelines run on the servitude of the road.
Egoli Gas observed through various platforms and by onsite members that one or two manhole covers have been blown off and a white gas-like substance is seen coming from these openings as well as some of the exposed cracks in the road.
Egoli Gas would like to mention that our piped natural gas is not visible to the human eye and this appears to be visible warm steam.
We will keep the public posted as we continue assessing any damage to our network and assisting and providing Piped Natural Gas expertise to the authorities, ensuring the area is maintained safely.

Majority Of Patients Injured In Johannesburg Blast Discharged From Hospital

A shortage of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) looms in the country after the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) ordered wholesale players to have their own branded 48kgs gas cylinders by 31 July 2023 or have their licences cancelled.
ZERA said LPG wholesalers will not be allowed to use cylinders not traceable to licensed brands after 31 July.
ZERA also require LPG wholesalers to meet the minimum fixed storage capacity of 40 tonnes and not sell LPG gas to unlicensed retailers, failure to do that will have their licenses revoked.
LP gas traders have warned that this may result in a shortage of the product locally and push prices at a time demand is high during winter.
The Liquified Petroleum Gas Association of Zimbabwe (LPGAZ) has written to ZERA appealing for an extension of the deadline to allow the delivery of cylinders purchased overseas that are still to be delivered.
On 05 June 2023, LPGAZ Chairman Gift Patsika wrote a letter to ZERA requesting a meeting so that they explain their predicament. Wrote Patsika:

We, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas Association of Zimbabwe, representing more than twenty-five (25) LPG wholesalers in Zimbabwe, do hereby kindly request an urgent meeting with your office.
We are deeply concerned by the letters our members have received in relation to the cancellation of licences, hence we request a meeting prior to the hearings.
We would greatly appreciate a quick response at your earliest convenience and we look forward to meeting you soon.

Patsika told <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/lpg-players-petition-zera-over-gas-cylinders/">The Herald</a> that all their members have purchased the branded cylinders from Asian countries but will only be delivered post-July deadline. He said:

These tanks are imported from China, India and Turkey and as such it takes a bit of time to get them.
COVID-19 and the recent earthquake in China slowed down the shipment of some of the tanks, we appeal to the regulator for a dialogue to find a lasting solution to this.
The little gas available in the country will be very expensive working the demand-supply notion.
We are already in winter and the demand for electricity and gas goes up.

In February this year, ZERA said the requirement to have branded 48kg LPG cylinders is meant to improve cylinder control, maintenance and safety.
LPG wholesalers are required to maintain accurate inventories of their 48kg cylinders indicating their serial numbers and state of maintenance.

Liquified Petroleum Gas Shortage Looms

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced Liquid Petroleum Gas (LP Gas) prices for March 2022.
In a public notice this Monday, ZERA set the price of LP gas at US$2.07 and ZWL$268.11 per kilogramme.
In February, the retail price of LP gas was US$2.03 and ZWL$234.15 per kilogramme. This means that in March, consumers will pay US$0.04 and ZWL$33.96 more per kilogramme of LP gas respectively. ZERA said:

On Friday, ZERA also announced an increase in the price of petrol and diesel. The energy regulator increased the price of diesel to ZWL$195.99 and US$1.51 from ZWL$168.17 and US$1.44 per litre, respectively.
The price of petrol for March is now ZWL$195.72 and US$1.51 per litre, a significant increase from the February price that was capped at ZWL$169.91 and US$1.44, respectively.

ZERA Hikes Liquid Petroleum Gas Prices

Harare City Council has warned residents that it is illegal for anyone to sell Liquid Petroleum Gas (LP Gas) from residential premises.
Harare City Council spokesperson, Michael Chideme, urged residents to report people who sell LP gas from their residences. He said:

It is not allowed to sell gas in residential premises because of the dangers it causes to human life and properties in the event of an explosion.
As city council, we are also enforcing the regulations when such people operate outside the law and we are also asking people to report anyone who is violating the laws to come forward.
</blockquote>
This comes after an entire family in Eyestone, part of the Retreat area in southern Harare, perished in a fire caused by a gas explosion.
A couple and its three children were killed around 8.30 PM on Wednesday when gas from a gas tank believed to be faulty exploded in their two-roomed house and ignited a fire.
Following the explosion, the 48kg gas tank went through the roof and landed 50 metres away.
The deceased, who are from Gokwe, were identified as Kudzai Gozhora (32), his wife Shupikai Makwara (30) and their three daughters, Valentine (11), Monalisa (seven) and Trumpfree (13 months).
Neighbours vainly tried to extinguish the fire which reportedly lasted for about 30 minutes, but by then the family had already perished.

'Selling Gas From Residential Premises Illegal'

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced Liquid Petroleum Gas (LP Gas) prices for February 2022.
In a public notice this Monday, ZERA set the price of LP gas at US$2.03 and ZWL$234.15 per kilogramme.
This means that the price of gas in US dollars has fallen by US$0.02 from the January price which was pegged at US$2.05, while in Zimbabwe dollars, the price has increased from ZWL$222.32 set in January. ZERA said in the latest notice:

ZERA Slashes LP Gas Price By US$0.02

The shortage of liquified petroleum gas (LPG) in some parts of the country has been blamed on congestion and delays in clearing human and cargo traffic at the Beitbridge Border Post.
In Bulawayo, some consumers said they could not find gas from their regular suppliers since last week.
An official at a Value Gas outlet in Belmont, Bulawayo, confirmed the gas shortages. Said the official:

We do not have gas these days. You can check in the next two days as our trucks are still at the border.
</blockquote>
An official from another supplier, Ecogas said gas shortages during the Christmas and New Year holidays were normal due to the rise in demand. The official said:
<blockquote>
Gas is being transported by road and when there is a delay in clearing cargo at the Beitbridge Border, it affects deliveries.
There is nothing new from what we are experiencing now, usually during the festive season and during the winter season we experience an increase in demand which results in some shortages.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) set LP gas prices for December at US$2.14 and $225.92 per kg but many gas dealers sell in foreign currency at prices slightly below the official price.
Power cuts and the rising cost of electricity are some of the factors behind increasing LP gas consumption in Zimbabwe.

In a notice on Sunday evening, ZERA said the retail price of gas, calculated according to the Petroleum (Liquid Petroleum Gas Pricing) Regulations 90 of 2021, has been set at US$2.05 per kilogramme or alternatively, ZWL$202.78 per kilogramme. The energy regulator added:

ZERA Hikes LP Gas Prices For November

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced the Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices for the month of September 2021.
In a statement, the Authority said based on the Petroleum (Liquid Petroleum Gas Pricing) Regulations 90 of 2021, the new gas price has been set at US$1.92 per kg, and ZWL$164.94 per kg.
ZERA ordered LP gas retailers to display both prices, in USD and RTGS dollars, where they are clearly visible at their outlets.
The Authority, however, said operators may sell LPG at prices below the stipulated prices depending on one’s trading advantages. ZERA said:

ZERA Announces LP Gas Prices For September 2021

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Total_Zimbabwe" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Total</a> has hiked the price of gas from $15 to $20 per kg. This follows a similar move by <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zuva_Petroleum" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zuva Petroleum</a> which raised the price for its gas from $18 to $22 last Friday.
According to Zim Price Check, Total has a model of selling gas different from other retailers. The report says:
<blockquote>Total uses a somewhat old model of selling gas. They have their own containers for which you have to pay a deposit the first time you become a customer. You then take the container home and when it runs empty you have to bring it back.</blockquote>
However, the model has several advantages for Total’s customers in that they use the same containers when they return to buy more gas and the gas cylinders are safer, and leaking containers are repaired away from customers.
