The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has raised fuel prices with effect from 4 January 2024. In a statement published by Pindula News, ZERA said the new prices are as follows:

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has reduced diesel and petrol prices in both United States dollars (USD) and in Zimbabwean dollars with effect from 4 December 2023. In a statement published by Pindula News, ZERA said the new prices are as follows: 
ZERA announced that the fuel prices will be effective until 4th January 2024. The regulator set the blending ratio at E20. According to ZERA, operators have the option to sell petroleum products below the prescribed prices if they have trading advantages. Operators must display the prices prominently as per the fuel pricing regulations. Stakeholders are advised to verify the petroleum price releases on the official ZERA website, Facebook, or Twitter.

ZERA Raises Fuel Prices For January 2024

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has reduced diesel and petrol prices in both United States dollars (USD) and in Zimbabwean dollars with effect from 5 November 2023. In a statement published by Pindula News, ZERA said the new prices are as follows:

The prices for November 2023 are based on M-1 which refers to refer to the cost of importing fuel into Zimbabwe. The M-1 price is determined by various factors, including international crude oil prices, transportation costs, port charges, insurance costs, and taxes. The M-1 price is used as a basis for setting the local pump prices of petrol and diesel in Zimbabwe. The M-1 price is subject to change depending on the fluctuations in the global oil market and other factors that affect the cost of importing fuel.
ZERA said the price will remain effective until 4 December 2023. ZERA has advised the public and operators that the blending ratio is at E20. Operators are allowed to sell petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as stipulated by the fuel pricing regulations.
Stakeholders are urged to verify the petroleum price releases by ZERA on the official ZERA website, Facebook, or Twitter handle.

The price of diesel is now US$1.79 per litre, up from US$1.76, while the price of petrol has remained US$1.65.

ZERA Increases Price Of Diesel

The Kenyan government has reinstated a small subsidy to stabilise retail fuel prices for the next 30 days after months of violent protests against the rising cost of living.
Ruto removed fuel and maize flour subsidies in September last year after taking office and increased taxes this year.
The subsidies had put in place by his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta but Ruto said he preferred subsidising production rather than consumption.
The move was also aimed at cutting government spending as the government seeks to get a handle on debt repayments, reported <a href="https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2023/8/15/kenya-reinstates-fuel-subsidy-after-months-of-violent-protests">Al Jazeera</a>.
However, the subsidy cuts as well as recent tax hikes have increased living costs and contributed to violent anti-government protests in recent months.
On Monday, the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) announced that the maximum retail price of a litre of petrol would remain constant at 194.68 shillings ($1.35).
The Government will shoulder an increase of 7.33 shillings ($0.05) through a price stabilisation fund.
Fuel prices shot up when Ruto removed the subsidies and spiked again in July after the government doubled the fuel tax.

Kenyan President William Ruto Reinstates Fuel Subsidy After Violent Protests

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new fuel prices that will take effect from July 5, 2023, as seen in a statement released by Pindula News. The prices are as follows:

In a previous review on June 5, 2023, ZERA announced prices as follows:

ZERA has clarified that the prices are for July 2023, based on M-1, and will be effective up to August 4, 2023. The public and operators have been advised that the blending ratio is at E20 and that operators can sell petroleum products below the prescribed prices based on their trading advantages.
In compliance with fuel pricing regulations, the operators are also required to display the prices in a prominent place. Stakeholders have been advised to verify the petroleum price releases by ZERA on their official website, Facebook, or Twitter handle.

ZERA Raises Diesel Prices Effective 5 July 2023

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has warned illegal fuel dealers that they risk prosecution.
This comes as some unlicensed fuel dealers are advertising fuel on social media platforms promising to provide the product at low prices.
In a statement, ZERA said it is a serious offence for any unlicensed company to buy or sell fuel without the requisite license. Reads the statement:

It has come to the attention of the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) that there are some illegal fuel dealers offering fuel for sale to retailers and the public via social media.
Trade in petroleum products is a regulated activity that must be conducted in terms of relevant licenses and license conditions.
In terms of the Petroleum Act Cap 13:22, no person other than a licensed petroleum company shall procure or sell or produce petroleum products in the country.
Therefore, be advised that it is a serious offence for any unlicensed company to carry out an activity in the petroleum industry without the requisite license.
It is a breach of license conditions for a licensed petroleum retail company to buy petroleum products from a company that is not licensed to procure/import or wholesale petroleum products.
ZERA takes the issue of illegal fuel trading seriously as it endangers quality of product and safety of the public whilst creating an uneven playing field in the industry.
ZERA is working with relevant government agencies to curtail this malpractice.
The Authority would like to strongly warn that any unlicensed person found trading fuel will be prosecuted.
In addition, any licensed petroleum company found buying fuel from an unlicensed wholesaler will have their license cancelled.
Petroleum retail companies are advised to conduct due diligence by engaging ZERA to verify the authenticity of any company that may be offering fuel for sale in a suspicious manner.
The list of all licensed petroleum companies is available on the ZERA website www.zera.co.zw.
ZERA would like to urge the petroleum companies and the public to report anyone they suspect to be illegally doing business in the petroleum industry as soon as they get such information.

In a statement seen by Pindula News, the regulator said petrol would now be sold at US$1.62 or ZW$1455.32 up from US$1.59 or ZW$1 241.01 announced on 26 January 2023.
The authority also said the retail price for diesel is now US$1.67 or ZW$1 499.26 down from US$1.68 or ZW$1 315.09 up from US$1.62 or ZW$1 188.77. Read part of the statement:

The average price of diesel around the world is 1.29 U.S. Dollars per litre while the average price of gasoline around the world is 1.30 U.S. Dollars per litre. 
GlobalPetrolPrices.com says the differences in prices across countries are due to the various taxes and subsidies for diesel. All countries have access to the same petroleum prices of international markets but then decide to impose different taxes. As a result, the retail price of diesel is different.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa last year <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/i-directed-reduction-of-duty-on-fuels-no-duty-for-diesel-president-mnangagwa/">directed that duty on fuels be reduced by US 13 cents</a> among other measures to ensure the supply in the market remains stable and affordable.
Fuel prices went up in February with the government attributing the increase to the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/ukraines-foreign-minister-putin-launched-full-scale-invasion-well-defend-and-win/">war between Russia and Ukraine</a> which they said disrupted global trade as the two countries are the main producers of oil.
Analysts noted, however, that while the conflict had an impact on economies all over the world, Zimbabwe’s fuel prices were greater than those of its regional counterparts because of higher taxes.

ZERA Announces New Fuel Prices Effective 6 March 2023

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new fuel prices effective 02 February 2023.
The price of petrol is now US$1.61 per litre, up from US$1.59, while the price of diesel is now US$1.71, up from US$1.68 per litre. ZERA said in a statement:

The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio for unleaded petrol is at E5. Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

The new fuel prices in Zimbabwe dollars are as follows:

Govt Increases Diesel And Petrol Prices

South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has published the official fuel price adjustments for February 2023.
As projected in the last week, petrol and diesel prices will be going up in February, increasing by 28 cents and between a decrease of 1 cent and an increase of 9 cents per litre, respectively.
The changes will come into effect from Wednesday, 1 February 2023.

The department said the main factors contributing to the increases include higher prices for Brent crude oil, which increased to $85.08.
Furthermore, international prices for petroleum products and the strengthening of the rand against the US dollar also played a role.
The rand appreciated slightly, on average, against the US Dollar – from R17.28 to R17.00 per USD – during the period under review when compared to the previous one.
The negative slate balance on petrol and diesel amounted to R2.191 billion at the end of December 2022. 
A slate levy decrease of 43.84 c/l (from 61.38 c/l to 17.54 c/l) will be implemented into the price structures of petrol and diesel, in line with the Self-Adjusting Slate Mechanism rules effective from the 1st of February 2023.

Fuel Update: ZERA Raises Fuel Prices With Effect From 26 January 2023

In a statement seen by Pindula News, the regulator said petrol would now be sold at US$1.54 per litre up from the previous US$1.53.
The cost of petrol was increased from ZWL$1 080.01 to ZW$1 124.61 in local currency.
Diesel is now priced in US dollars at US$1.62 per litre, down from US$1.63 per litre, while it was priced in Zimbabwean dollars at ZW$1 188.77, up from ZWL$1.147.01 per litre. Read the statement in part:

Fuel Price Update: ZERA Hikes Petrol, Reduces Diesel Prices Effective 18 January 2023

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new fuel prices effective 11 January 2023.
The price of petrol is now US$1.53 per litre, up from US$1.50, while the price of diesel is now US$1.63, down from US$1.65 per litre. ZERA said in a statement:

The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio for unleaded petrol is at E5. Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.
</blockquote>
The new fuel prices in Zimbabwe dollars are as follows:
<ul>
<li>Diesel is now ZWL$1.147.01, up from ZWL$1.119.82 per litre</li>
<li>Petrol is now ZWL$1080.01, up from ZWL$1016.49 per litre</li>

ZERA Announces New Fuel Prices Effective 11 January

South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources and Energy says there will be a decrease in prices from Wednesday next week.  
Both grades of petrol will come down by R2.06c a litre.
Diesel will decrease by around R2.68c a litre.  
Illuminating paraffin prices will go down by R1.93c a litre.
The decreases have been fuelled by a stronger Rand-Dollar exchange rate and a steep fall in the price of oil.
The Automobile Association (AA), a non-profit organisation providing services to its members such as roadside assistance, and technical and motor-related legal advice is cited by <a href="https://www.news24.com/fin24/economy/big-cuts-in-petrol-diesel-prices-expected-next-week-20221230">News24</a> as saying:

These decreases will not take fuel prices to levels seen in January 2022 but will, nonetheless, go a long way to alleviating the fuel price burden – and its associated impact on other prices – felt by millions of South Africans.
For many travellers who are currently on vacation this is also good news as it will undoubtedly reduce expenses on the return leg of their journeys.

This comes as the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Energy_Regulatory_Authority">Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA)</a> raised fuel prices by two cents for petrol and three cents for diesel with effect from the 29th of December 2022.

The average price of gasoline around the world is 1.28 U.S. Dollars per litre while the average price of diesel around the world is 1.32 U.S. Dollars per litre.

South Africa: Fuel Prices Set To Decrease Next Week

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new fuel prices effective 21 December 2022.
The price of petrol is now US$1.48 per litre, down from US$1.50, while the price of diesel has remained at US$1.62 per litre. ZERA said in a statement:

The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio for unleaded petrol is at 5%. Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

The new fuel prices in Zimbabwe dollars are as follows:

Price Of Petrol Falls

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new fuel prices effective 08 December 2022.
The price of diesel has been reduced to US$1.66 from US$1.70 per litre. The price of petrol has, however, gone up to US$1.55 from US$1.54 which ZERA announced on 30 November 2022.
Notwithstanding the fact that fuel is hardly sold in Zimbabwe dollars, ZERA has announced new prices in the local currency.

<li>Diesel is now ZWL$1.095.55, down from ZWL$1.113.03 per litre</li>
<li>Petrol is now ZWL$1023.77, up from ZWL$1008.57 per litre</li>
</ul>
ZERA said the blending ratio remains at E15. It added that operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

ZERA Reduces Price Of Diesel, Petrol Price Goes Up Marginally

ZERA Announces Fuel Prices Effective 16 November 2022

The government says it will not force fuel service stations to sell fuel to sell in US dollars except for those that get fuel direct from the government amid fears that forcing players could cause shortages.
Every time the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) sets new fuel prices, it announces the price of petroleum products in both USD and ZWL but fuel is hardly available in the local currency.
In February, ZERA announced it was expecting to have more outlets selling in local currency but has hitherto made little if any progress in that regard.
ZERA chief executive Eddington Mazambani told <a href="https://businesstimes.co.zw/govt-dumps-zwl-priced-fuel-plan/">Business Times</a> that the plan was no longer sustainable. He said:
<blockquote>
We no longer have plans to convince fuel dealers to sell in ZWL$ but they can do so if they want.
The move comes after the realisation that this could destabilise the stable fuel sector.
There are some service stations that get fuel direct from the government, they are urged to sell in ZWL$ as they are getting it at a subsidised price.

Mazambani revealed that Petrotrade, CMED, Zuva, and Genesis are some of the service stations currently selling fuel in local currency.
Fuel is being sold at US$1.51 and US$1.74 per litre for petrol and diesel respectively.
The fuel was around US$1.30 per litre in January before Russia invaded Ukraine which triggered a global fuel price hike.

Govt Abandons Zim Dollar Priced Fuel Plan

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) on Wednesday announced new fuel prices effective 02 November 2022.
ZERA increased the price of petrol by US$0.3 cents to US$1.57 per litre from the previous price of US$1.54.
The price of diesel remains unchanged at US$1.73 per litre. ZERA said in a statement:

ZERA Announces New Fuel Prices Effective 06 October 2022

Energy and Power Development Minister Soda Zhemu says the government expects the business sector to start reducing prices as fuel prices continue to fall.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://newziana.co.zw/2022/09/14/govt-calls-on-business-to-reduce-prices/">New Ziana</a>, Soda said business should slash prices in tandem with the drop in fuel prices, and stabilised exchange rates, among other factors. Said Soda:
<blockquote>
What we have seen in the past is that when the price of fuel increased even by a single cent, business would increase prices of basic commodities.
… Now that the price of fuel is going down, we do not seem to see that reflected in the prices of goods and services, and it is actually a concern.
They should pass the benefits accruing to the consumers just as they were doing when things were difficult. Why not now?
</blockquote>
He noted that the business sector is always quick to increase prices whenever the price of a key input, such as fuel, was increased, yet was reluctant to reduce prices when fuel prices have been going down.
Last week, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority reduced the price of petrol from $1.58 to $1.53 per litre.

Govt Urges Business Sector To Reduce Prices

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has reviewed the prices of diesel and petrol (Blend-E20) with effect from 08 September 2022.
The price of diesel has remained at US$1.74 per litre while the price of petrol has been reduced to US$1.53 from US$1.58.
Fuel prices in Zimbabwe dollars have, however, been raised, with the price of diesel now ZWL$1.014.01, up from ZWL$946.63 per litre while the price of petrol is now ZWL$892.35, up from ZWL$857.71.
ZERA said the blending ratio remains at E20. It added that operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

Price Of Petrol Falls As ZERA Reviews Fuel Prices

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has delayed the reviewing of September 2021 fuel prices citing developments taking place in the international oil market.
In a statement released on Monday, ZERA said it will announce the September 2021 fuel prices in due course, while in the meantime, fuel dealers should continue using the August prices. The Authority said:
<blockquote>
According to Statutory Instrument 270 of 2019, Petroleum (Petroleum Products Pricing) Regulations, the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) is supposed to review and announce fuel prices by the 5th of every month.
However, due to developments that are taking place, ZERA will issue a statement on the September 2021 fuel prices after the statutory set date.
ZERA is working vigorously to have the fuel prices for the month announced and are paying close attention to trends on the international oil market while consulting local key stakeholders on the likely impact of the developments on the final pump prices.
Fuel operators are therefore urged to continue trading as per the August 2021 fuel prices while consultations are being finalised.
The September 2021 fuel prices will be announced in due course.

ZERA Delays September Fuel Prices Review

South Africa is set to increase fuel prices effective Wednesday 7 April 2021.
The increase in fuel prices is being blamed on the weak Rand against the US Dollar and the blockage of the Suez Canal which South Africa’s Department of Mineral Resources said is causing a delay for all cargo containers including oil tankers.
Other factors that have been given for the increase in fuel prices in South Africa include the increase in Brent Crude oil price from 61.10USD to 64.00USD per barrel, the increase on the Fuel and Road Accident Fund (RAF) Levies on both petrol and diesel by 16.00c/l and 11.00c/l, respectively, with effect from the 7th of April 2021 as well as the adjustment to revised road and pipeline transport tariffs.
93 unleaded petrol is expected to go up by 95 cents per litre whilst 95 unleaded is expected to increase by one rand.
The Automobile Association is quoted by Business Tech saying:
<blockquote>This means that the fuel price for April will be in the region of R17.32 a litre for ULP 95 inland, comfortably surpassing the previous high of R17.08 set in late 2018.</blockquote>

South Africa Increases Fuel Prices

ZERA has reviewed the price of fuel with effect from today. This was revealed in a memo that was published by ZERA that shows that petrol will sell for ZWL$97.62 and diesel will sell for ZWL$81.85.
Previously <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/zera-announces-new-fuel-prices-usd-diesel-petrol-prices-fall-marginally/">diesel used to sell for </a>  ZWL$86.36 and US$1.04 per litre, while petrol was selling for ZWL$97.93 and US$1.18 per litre.
This means diesel has gone down ZWL $4.51 and US$0.04 while petrol increased by 2 US cents and has gone up by down by a marginal ZWL $0.31

ZERA Reviews Fuel Prices

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) will likely reduce the price of fuel after an unprecedented fall in global crude oil prices caused by the COVID-19 pandemic which negatively impacted on demand.
ZERA acting chief executive officer Eddington Mazambani told NewsDay that any adjustments in fuel prices will be done according to law and if there is a downward movement, it will be revealed in the next price review. Said Mazambani:
<blockquote>I cannot pre-empt the final price for May 2020, we will use the FOB (free on board) of refined fuel up to end of April 2020 and any other considerations from government and other stakeholders.
However, the fall in crude oil is expected to filter to the FOB prices of fuel imported into Zimbabwe.
… I hope you are aware that Zimbabwe imports refined fuel, not crude and that the fuel we use is imported in advance not spot purchase. Adjustments in fuel prices will be done according to the law. If there is any downward movement, it will be reflected in the next price review.</blockquote>
Mazambani added that according to Statutory Instrument 270 of 2019, Zimbabwe sets fuel prices monthly and the next review is due on May 5, 2020.
Currently, fuel is priced at Z$21,52 and Z$21,77 per litre of diesel and petrol, respectively.

Fuel Prices Likely To Be Slashed On May 5

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Energy_Regulatory_Authority">Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority</a> has announced new fuel prices which have been increased by a few cents.
According to the new prices, Diesel will be sold at $18.66 while Petrol will be sold at $18.70

Govt is mulling changing the fuel pricing system from weekly price reviews to monthly price reviews, the Sunday Mail reports.  The reason behind this consideration is because the weekly reviews are fuelling price volatility and businesses are unable to plan and consumers are mostly affected by these moves according to the publication.
Speaking about the idea on the table to change the pricing system to monthly reviews, Energy Secretary Engineer Gloria Magombo said:
<blockquote>But as Government, we are very clear that as we go forward and once stabilisation on the macro-economic front is achieved, we want to bring the monthly reviews model.We have already written to the regulator to indicate that we are seeing stability going forward.
Now we want them to start looking at that option and we need them to engage with the oil companies and the consumers, and be clear on where we want to go. Government wants Zera to consider moving to adjustments after two weeks with a view to moving to a longer period.</blockquote>
ZERA had opted for the weekly fuel price reviews to curb inflation and not shortchange importers and dealers.
