The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has increased the pump price of Petrol (E20) by 1 cent to US$1.60 per litre, while that of Diesel 50 has also increased by 1 cent to US$1.63 per litre.
In a public notice, ZERA said the new prices are effective from 07 August 2024 to 04 September 2024.
ZERA also announced fuel prices in ZiG even though the product is not available in the local currency.
The price of diesel has been set at ZiG22.42 per litre, while petrol now costs ZiG22.08 per litre. ZERA said:
<blockquote>
The public and operators are advised that the blending ratio is at E20. Operators may sell the petroleum products below the prescribed prices depending on their trading advantages and should display prices in a prominent place as provided for by the fuel pricing regulations.

In South Africa, the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) has effected price reductions for both petrol and diesel with effect from 07 August.
Both grades of petrol will come down by 15 cents per litre, while diesel will drop by between 17 cents (50ppm) and 28 cents (500ppm).
According to IOL, following the adjustments on Wednesday, 95 Unleaded petrol will cost R22.32 at the coast and R23.11 in Gauteng, where the slightly less expensive 93 Unleaded will now retail for R22.71.

The prices of petrol and diesel have gone up slightly in Zimbabwe. Each litre of petrol (E20) now costs US$1.60, while diesel 50 costs US$1.63. The new prices are in place until September 4, 2024. In South Africa, petrol and diesel prices have actually decreased. Petrol prices at the coast and in Gauteng have gone down. There are regulations in place for selling these fuels, but operators can sell at lower prices if they want to. The adjustments have been made to reflect changes in the market.

Petrol And Diesel Pump Prices Rise Slightly

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced fuel prices effective from 06 February to 04 March 2024.
ZERA set the price of diesel at US$1.67 per litre, up from US$1.66 and the price of petrol at US$1.64 per litre, up from US$1.57 announced on 04 January. ZERA said in a notice:

The prices are for February 2024 based on M-1 and they will be effective up to 4 March 2024.

Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority has announced the new price of fuel. According to the statement by ZERA which stated that the price increase will be effective today 5 February 2021.

JUST IN: ZERA Hikes Fuel Prices

Zimbabwe Energy Regulator Authority has hiked the price of petrol and diesel with effect from today the 5th of August 2020. A statement published by ZERA announcing the price hike states that motorists will fork out $93.15 for a litre of petrol while those with diesel engines will part with $83.36 for a litre of the precious liquid.
The USD prices for petrol and diesel remain unchanged at $1.28 and $1.09 respectively.

ZERA Hikes Fuel Prices

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has reviewed fuel prices downwards with effect from May 5, 2020.
The price of diesel has fallen from $21.52 to $20.84 while that of petrol has been slashed from $21.77 to $21.00.
The development follows a sharp fall in the price of crude oil globally because of the coronavirus pandemic which has reduced demand for the product.
In its latest price review, ZERA said operators may, however, sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages.
On Monday, the government hiked excise duty on diesel and petrol a few hours before announcing the new fuel prices.

UPDATED: Govt Reviews Fuel Prices Downwards

Economic analysts have commended the latest fuel price hike by the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Energy_Regulatory_Authority" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Energy and Regulatory Authority (ZERA)</a>.
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/ZNCC" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC)</a> CEO, Christopher Mugaga believes that it was not going to be sustainable for the economy if the government had continued to subsidise fuel. He said:
<blockquote>I think the move by Zera is applaudable in the sense that government was now heavily subsidizing the commodity which would be unsustainable for the economy.</blockquote>
An independent economic analyst, Kipson Gundani said local fuel prices had fallen behind the regional average, hence they had to be reviewed upwardly. He said:
<blockquote>… fuel price adjustment was necessary for Zimbabwe from several perspectives like when you compare the absolute price levels obtaining in the country are not comparable to the region.</blockquote>
On Sunday, 5 April 2020, ZERA increased the retail price of petrol from $18.66 to $21.77 while that of diesel was hiked from $18.25 to $21.52.

Govt Applauded For Hiking Price Of Fuel

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Energy_Regulatory_Authority" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA)</a> has increased the price of fuel by almost $2. In a statement, ZERA announced that with effect from Monday, 28 October 2019, the price of diesel is now $17.47 while petrol now costs $16.75 per litre.
ZERA said that operators may, however, sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages.
To avoid falling prey to fake news, ZERA advised all stakeholders that the petroleum price releases can be verified on the official ZERA website, Facebook or Twitter handle.

JUST IN: Price Of Fuel Hiked By Almost $2.00

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA), has announced new fuel prices effective Monday 19 August 2019.
The price of diesel has been marginally increased by 9 cents from $9.27 to $9.36.
The price of petrol was $9.09 last week and has been adjusted to $9.12, a slight increase of 3 cents.
According to ZERA, the changes in the fuel prices are due to the FOB price movements and the revised duty regime (SI 161 of 2019).
Operators may, however, sell at prices below that cap depending on their trading advantages, said ZERA.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has increased the price of fuel yet again.
Petrol has gone up from $7.47 to $7.55. Diesel has gone up from $7.14 to $7.22.
The new prices are effective on Tuesday, 30 July 2019.
The last price hike was effected 8 days ago. Reports indicate that this signifies a looming significant increase to match the US$-Z$ exchange rate.
Currently, the prices are still subsidized.

JUST IN: Price Of Fuel Hiked Again

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has dismissed reports of an imminent hike in fuel prices.
This comes after an email purported from ZERA has surfaced, advising members of the public that fuel prices will be raised again after the latest hike affected this Monday. The “new prices” for diesel and petrol had been set at ZWL$9.19 and ZWL$9.47 respectively.
In a statement on social media, ZERA said:

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has hiked the price of fuel yet again with effect from Monday 22 July 2017.
The price of diesel has been raised to ZWL$7.19 while that of petrol has been increased to ZWL$7.47.
This is the second time the prices of fuel have been hiked in the past 10 days and confirms remarks made by Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube recently that the increase will not be knee-jerk but gradual.

Finance and Economic Development Minister, Mthuli Ncube, said that initially he was opposed to ZESA increasing electricity tariffs, but he is now convinced that charges should be raised.
Ncube was speaking at an Alpha Media Holdings event dubbed In Conversation with Trevor. Said Ncube:
<blockquote>The power situation is very serious. In the short-term, we need to work on demand management strategies, where we categorise users and come up with a differentiated tariff system.
For instance, there is no reason why the mining sector should not pay a tariff linked to the exchange rate because they are major earners of foreign currency.
So, we have to look at the demand side, the supply and internal operations of Zesa. In the past, I was unhappy about an instant tariff increase, but having done all these things, I am more convinced now we can now increase the tariff.
If we are only having power during the night when we don’t need it, then it really doesn’t matter if the tariff goes up.
In terms of how much, I can’t say, but those simulations are being done and soon, we will have a new tariff.</blockquote>
Ncube also revealed that the price of fuel will also go up to a price close to or equivalent to the US$1. He added:
<blockquote>The price of fuel is likely to go up, I think what will be ideal is the price of fuel is close to or equivalent to a US$1. That’s the ideal. If you look around the region, that’s the ideal.
So we will also get there, but we won’t get there in a big bang, it has to be gradual, not a big bang as long as we hold the exchange rate.
You will see the fuel price adjust to equilibrium one dollar. The reason for this subsidy to the economy is you are most aware that the arbitrage opportunities, that were there before, have crumbled.</blockquote>
Fuel is currently selling at ZW$5,26 per litre for petrol, and likely to rise to around ZW$9 a litre in line with the interbank market rate, where the United States dollar is trading at 1:8,5 against the local currency.

Fuel Price and Electricity Tariffs To Be Hiked Soon

Service stations across the country have maintained the current fuel prices gazetted by the Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA).
On Tuesday, there were widespread reports, especially on social media that some fuel dealers had hiked fuel prices to almost RTGS $8.00 per litre, following the parallel market exchange rate of 1:8.
However, on Wednesday, fuel retailers were selling petrol at the gazetted $4,97 per litre, with diesel selling at $4,86 per litre.
The reports of a fuel price hike inevitably were used by transport operators to hike fares to as much as $5 per trip, from $2.
There were long, winding queues at the few services stations that were selling the precious liquid.

FULL TEXT: ZERA Sets The Record Straight On Fuel Prices

The Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) said that it will increase the number of buses plying Harare routes starting on Wednesday evening after there was a stampede by commuters to get a seat on the buses on Tuesday evening.
The development follows the halving of ZUPCo bus fares, which coincided with a sharp increase in the price of fuel which triggered a massive fare hike by private transport operators.
In an interview with 263Chat on Wednesday morning, acting ZUPCO chief executive Evaristo Madangwa said:
<blockquote>Yes, we are going to be increasing our fleet. Yesterday was our first day on the road. The demand was overwhelming, so we identified that and realized people want to use our buses. We are therefore strategizing to make sure we increase our fleet.
From today onwards you will see an improvement. We are increasing our capacity as we intensify our strategy. The kombi operators are failing to match service so it’s creating demand for us and we moving in to address that.</blockquote>
The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) announced on Tuesday afternoon that diesel and petrol prices are now pegged at $4.89 and $4.97 respectively.
Madangwa claimed that ZUPCO will remain afloat even when charging ridiculous fares of $0.50 per trip. He said that economies of scale will see to that.

ZUPCO To Deploy More Buses In Harare

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) on Tuesday raised the price of diesel and petrol to ZWL$4,89 and ZWL$4,97, respectively.
This resulted in the local currency shedding 33% of its value to trade at US$1: RTGS$4,70.
Black markets rates surged to US$1: RTGS$6,20 resulting in retailers increasing prices of their products.
The developments echoed the 2008 scenario as kombi operators hiked fares from $1.50 to $4.00 in some parts of Harare, Budiriro for instance.
There was chaos as stranded commuters stampeded for the few ZUPCO buses that were available which cost $0.50 per trip.
A financial expert, Persistence Gwanyanya, in an interview with Newsday, said:
<blockquote>This is what we wanted for the market to be more liberal. We want the convergence between the parallel and interbank market. If the interbank market rate has gone up then the parallel market will devalue.
Equally, it had become the most punitive implicit taxation on exporters who have had to contend with surrendering their foreign currency earnings at suboptimal exchange rates in order to appease the irrational national subsidy policy.</blockquote>
Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries president Sifelani Jabangwe said that he expects the price of fuel to go down as well as the foreign currency black market. He said:
<blockquote>The expectation is that the price of fuel should come down. The parallel market rate could come down significantly. There should be a convergence on the interbank.
We have been asking for a willing-buyer/willing-seller platform from the government. It’s positive to learn that the fuel sector will now get the fuel at the open market price rather than the 1:1 from the central bank.
We believe this country has enough forex needed for the interbank to work. The country has $800 million in nostro accounts, the highest we have had since 2009.
The use of RTGS$ has made us more competitive in the market. We should see more exports and US$ balances growing.</blockquote>

Fuel Price Hike Causes Chaos And Panic

The government has moved to prevent an acute rise in the price of fuel by reducing the import duty on both petrol and diesel.
The duty for petrol has been reduced from $2.30 to $1.15 while that for diesel has been slashed from $2.05 to 90 cents. In a statement on Tuesday, the Ministry of Information said:
<blockquote>Government has reduced the duty on fuel from $2.30 to $1.15 (petrol) and $2.05 to 90 cents for diesel. This adjustment has been factored into the new fuel prices. Govt Slashes Import Duty On Fuel After Hiking Prices

Service stations in Harare have not hesitated to immediately hike the price of fuel after the government earlier on Tuesday bowed down to pressure from fuel companies to increase the price of the same.
Zuva Petroleum and  Trek Petroleum are some of the fuel suppliers that have already adjusted the prices accordingly.
Many of the stations are making a killing by selling yesterday’s 1:1 hoarded stock at today’s pump price, based on the liberalised interbank rate.
Some fuel stations which were reportedly dry have suddenly started to sell fuel at the new prices without receiving fresh deliveries.

Pictures: Service Stations Already Selling Fuel At New Prices

The government says that it has commenced processing refunds on the fuel excise duty for businesses following the hiking of fuel prices in January.
Fuel prices were raised by over 150 per cent on January 14 as the government sought to eradicate what it considered speculative buying of fuel products which had resulted in acute shortages on the market.
The refunds will be given to approved beneficiaries and follow the gazetting of Statutory Instrument 72 of 2019 (Customs and Excise). The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority, (ZIMRA) has been tasked to undertake the processing of the refunds.
In a statement issued over the weekend, ZIMRA said:
<blockquote>The refund is provided for in terms of section 120, as ready with section 125 of the Customs and Excise Act and applies to leaded and unleaded petrol, power kerosene, illuminating or heating kerosene and diesel fuels purchased from January 13 to February 22, 2019.
The fuel refund facility will only benefit approved beneficiaries in the agriculture, mining, manufacturing, transport and mining sectors who have successfully registered with Zimbabwe Revenue Authority through their respective business associations.</blockquote>
What it means essentially is that not all fuel consumers will benefit from the facility. Only registered businesses that can prove that the fuel bought went to productive use, are tax compliant, did not increase prices on goods or services after the fuel hike, and register before July 30 2019, the deadline will benefit.

Govt Starts Processing Fuel Refunds Following January Price Hike

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) on Monday announced a marginal increase in the price of fuel, that will come into effect on Monday next week.
The price of petrol will increase slightly, from the current price of between ZWR$ZWR$3,34 and ZWR$3,40 to ZWR$3,41. The price of diesel will remain unchanged.
Part of the statement released by ZERA reads:
<blockquote>Please note that these figures take into account the revised excise duty, representing the maximum FOB and pump prices for the different fuels. Operators may, however, sell at prices below the cap depending on their trading advantages.</blockquote>
The fuel price increase comes at a time when there are acute shortages on the market. A motorist who spoke to Newsday about the fuel queues said:
<blockquote>The queue is very long and one would think twice before joining it, but the fortunate thing is that it’s moving very fast. We are in the transport business and the time factor matters, hence a few hours lost in the queue affects the overall business and our timetables.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, Passengers Association of Zimbabwe (PAZ) president Tafadzwa Goliathihad this to say:
<blockquote>As the PAZ, we are not happy with what is going in the country, it is the ordinary citizens who suffer from decisions by the government.
We did a survey in the morning (Tuesday) and we found out that passengers were stranded. From Mabvuku to town kombis were going for ZWR$2,50 while Chitungwiza to town it was ZWR$4.</blockquote>
Energy Minister, Joram Gumbo told Newsday that his Ministry’s mandate is not to avail money for fuel companies but to facilitate the bringing of the precious liquid into the country.

Govt Raises Fuel Price As Shortages Worsen

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has announced new fuel prices with effect from 08 April 2019.
In a statement released on April 1, ZERA said:
The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority advises that in terms of Statutory instrument 10 of 2019, the applicable FOB prices for the starting on 01 April 2019 and 08 April 2019 are summarized in the table below:
