ARREST AND CONVICTION OF SUSPECTS FOR DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE IN THE COUNTRY
The Zimbabwe Republic Police names and shames the listed 46 drug barons and suppliers who were convicted by the courts throughout the country:

<li>Shadreck Chipiro (25) of Musapingura Village, Chipinge, for illegal possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to perform 210 hours community service.</li>
<li>Lovemore Tarwira (19), of Muterembwe Village, Mutsvangwa, Chipinge, for illegal possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$100 or two months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Revai Jangambika (35), of Waterfalls Harare, for illegal possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to perform 210 hours of community service.</li>
<li>Promotion Mazhandu (19), of Dulibadzimu, Beitbridge, for possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$200.00 or 20 days imprisonment.</li>
<li>Vincent Obert Ruzvidzo (45), of Mpopoma Bulawayo, for illegal possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.</li>

<li>Prisca Muzanenhamo (38), of Gombera Village, Negomo, Chiweshe, for possession of Crystal Meth. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to perform 350 hours community service.</li>
<li>Tutsirai Munyuki (43), of Damafalls Park, Harare for selling unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$200.00 fine.</li>
<li>Loveness Chiwira (50), of Manhenga, Bindura, for selling unlicensed medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$200.00 fine.</li>
<li>Anthony Banda (39), of Plot 10 Ashtons, Industrial Site, Chinhoyi, for possession of unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$100.00.</li>

<li>Pardon Kuruwa (34), of Kuruwa Village, Nemangwe, Gokwe South, for unlawful cultivation of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to four years imprisonment.</li>
<li>Senzakhupi Shiri (40), of Tele Village, Ngungumbani, Mberengwa, for unlawful possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 105 hours community service.</li>
<li>Johannes Chauruka (27), of Charumbira Road, Dzivarasekwa, Harare, for possession of unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Joseph Taruwandira (32), of Unit L, Seke, Chitungwiza, for unlawful possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to six months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Nyajena Seke (40), of Showgrounds, Domboshava, for unlawful possession of dagga and unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 24 months imprisonment for count one 
and pay US$ 100.00 fine for count two.</li>

<li>Tatenda Mandizira (32), of Nhanga Street, Zengeza 2, Chitungwiza, for unlawful possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$100.00 fine.</li>
<li>Gerald Zinyemba (28), of Ahema Street, Mbare, for unlawful possession of dagga and unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to Pay US$460.00 fine for count one and US$60 fine for count two.</li>
<li>Norman Chitsuku (48), of Hopley, Harare, for unlawful possession of dagga. The suepct was convicted and sentenced to 14 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Florence Nyabadza (42), of Manyame Park, St Mary’s, Chitungwiza, for illegal possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 18 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Derreck Katsande (68), of Hatcliffe Consortium, Harare, for unlawful cultivation of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Brian Chodewa (37), of Horwe Close Mufakose, Harare, for unlawful possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 14 months imprisonment.</li>

<li>Michael Heywood (43), of Newforest Goodhope, Westgate, Harare, for illegal possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 24 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Mayson Mushanyairi (27), of Glenview, Harare, for possession of unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$30 fine.</li>
<li>Leon Zira (27), of Budiriro 2, Harare, for unlawful possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$30 fine.</li>
<li>Prince Malunga (35), of Warren Park, Harare, for possession of Crystal Meth. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.</li>

The police in Zimbabwe have arrested and convicted 46 people for using and selling drugs. Some were sentenced to community service or fines, while others got jail time. The police want to keep fighting drug abuse and will keep naming and shaming drug dealers. People are encouraged to report any drug dealers to the police.

Full Statement: Arrest And Conviction Of Suspects For Drug And Substance Abuse

At least 90 per cent of Ingutsheni Central Hospital patients suffer from drug and substance abuse-induced mental conditions, it has emerged.
Speaking during a drug and substance abuse campaign held in Bulawayo on Saturday, Ingutsheni Hospital representative Davison Samanyanga said the majority of the patients are victims of alcohol, drug and substance abuse. He said (via <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200028152/drug-abusers-congest-ingutsheni-hospital">Southern Eye</a>):

If you look at our admitting ward, you will see that there are almost 100 to 150 persons who are staying there and 90% of those are drug-related cases, hence this shows the magnitude of the problem of drug and substance abuse.
The treatment of those affected, of those addicted to drugs and substances is not an easy journey.
In the treatment of drug and substance abuse, there are so many players who take part. We have psychologists, social workers, psychiatrists and doctors. As I have mentioned, it is not an easy journey.
</blockquote>
Samanyanga urged youths to shun drugs and other illegal intoxicating substances which lead to addiction and mental illnesses. He said:
<blockquote>
For rehabilitation, we are saying people deserve a chance. After being seen by all those professionals, they really need a chance.
They need to be equipped and imparted with the correct skills so that when they come back to the community, they know how to live, and how to conquer those challenges which they might have faced, which might have led them to drugs.
For the youth out there, don’t throw away your life for the sake of a few hours of fun.

Commonly abused drugs in Zimbabwe include alcohol, cannabis (mbanje/marijuana), crystal meth (mutoriro), heroin, and glue.

Drug Abusers Congest Mental Health Institutions In Zimbabwe

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says there is no going back in the fight against drug and substance abuse and, through the National Committee on the Elimination of Drugs and Substance Abuse, will continue naming and shaming drug barons and suppliers in any part of the country.
The ZRP has urged the public to continue forwarding information regarding drug barons and suppliers through the National Complaints Desk number (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197.
On Tuesday, 07 May 2024, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi released the names of 27 drug barons and suppliers who were convicted by the courts. These are:

<li>Tinotenda Muronzi (24), of Maridale Norton, for possession of unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and paid a fine of US$100.00.</li>
<li>Prudence Chinhoyi (29), of Glenview, Harare, for possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 14 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>George Zacharia (44), of Tynwald South, Harare, for possession of unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay US$ 100 or 3 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Hubert Murindagomo (42), for possession of crystal meth. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to nine months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Victor Kurai Ngorima, of Belvedere, Harare, for possession of unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Leeroy Bruice Tungana (28), of Hatfield, Harare, for possession of crystal meth. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.</li>

<li>Dean Michael, of Famona, Bulawayo, for possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of US$300.00.</li>
<li>Thamsanqa Moyo (23), of Lobengula West, Bulawayo, for possession of 470 grams dagga and 96 X 100mls Benylin cough Syrup. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 24 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Caroline Muingayi (40), of New Lobengula, for possession of 738 grams of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 12 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Zororai Mapindure (40), of Runyararo West, Masvingo, for possession of 8 kilograms of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of US$400.00.</li>
<li>Netsai Nganhira (50), of Glenview, Harare, for possession of dagga. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of US$200.00</li>
<li>Takesure Christ (28), for possession of crystal meth. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to 17 months imprisonment.</li>
<li>Stancilous Mushanga (29), of Glenview 1, Harare, for possession of unregistered medicines. The suspect was convicted and sentenced to pay a fine of US$100.00.</li>

27 Suspects Convicted Of Drug And Substance Abuse Charges

Former Norton MP, Temba Mliswa has expressed anguish over the arrest of his 20-year-old daughter, m’Diwa Mliswa Chanetsa last week for possession of illegal drugs.
m’Diwa and her alleged accomplice, 27-year-old Tawanda Chigudu were nabbed in Avonlea, Harare, on 22 February 2024 after they were found in possession of methylenedioxymethamphetamine weighing approximately 1.30 grammes with a street value of ZWL$195 000.
Posting on social media site X, Mliswa urged parents to stand strong with their children and not abandon them in anger. He wrote:

One of my daughters, the 3rd born who stays with her mother, was arrested over a drug charge. I have made the tough decision to lay it out here for posterity, clarity and factuality to prevail before the issue is bastardized in the social fora.
She is a brilliant kid who has done well at school but in the past has refused to abide by the roadmap I apply to my other kids.
At 18 I sat her down on her plans but she refused it, even to stay with me. This isn’t to blame her mother but to reveal how she is as a child.
Being an advocate against drug abuse and a parent again it could be a frustrating time. However, I reiterate my position that drugs are bad and we have to fight them.
If it requires arresting culprits then so be it as it may be one way to save them from themselves.
The penalties for those who sell, even politicians, should even be stiffer as they endanger other people.
Peddling drugs should be equated with attempted murder as the path of drug use is one highway to death. I have seen children in a mess because of drug use.
I commend the ZRP for a job well done in dealing with the drug problem. For her, I hope this may be the Damascene moment from which she emerges changed and ready to be transformed.
I will continue supporting her as my daughter and pray that she sees the light away from this path.
If she is a victim of friends then she must find new companions. Rehabilitation may be the way to salvation after this.
This is tough love I’m giving as I believe massaging one when they are into drugs can be ultimately fatal in the long run.
I have worked with organisations such as FASAA which rehabilitate victims and understand the need to be both loving and tough to salvage a victim.
I’m a parent not just to my children but to many others in the community. Thus my message and position remain the same.
We have to be strong against drug and substance abuse. Even as a public person I won’t abuse the access I have to many people and offices to subvert the path of the law but will allow it to work and rehabilitate her to emerge a better person.
I have seen children in a mess because systems were not allowed to function in their proper manner.
As parents, we need to stand strong with our children neither abandoning them in anger nor suffocating them with excessive love. We have to tread the path with love and principles.

Selling Illegal Drugs Should Be Equated To Attempted Murder - Mliswa

Temba Mliswa’s 20-year-old daughter, m’Diwa Mliswa Chanetsa was arrested last week for possession of illegal drugs.
She was arrested by detectives together with 27-year-old Tawanda Chigudu in Avonlea, Harare, on 22 February 2024.
They were found in possession of methylenedioxymethamphetamine weighing approximately 1.30 grammes with a street value of ZWL$195 000.
The duo were charged with unlawful possession of dangerous drugs as defined in section 157(1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 09:23 as read with section 14(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act Chapter 15:02. Police said:

On 22 February 2024 at around 1200 hours, Detectives from CID Drugs Harare received information that the accused persons were in possession of drugs at number 35 Colchester, Avonlea Harare.
In pursuant to the supplied information and on the same date at around 1300 hours, detectives proceeded to the supplied address where upon arrival they located the accused persons who were in the house.
The Detectives introduced themselves as Police Officers and highlighted their mission to the accused persons.
Searches were conducted in the house and seized was one sachet of methylenedioxymethamphetamine in the dining room under the sofa. Accused persons were subsequently arrested.
A preliminary field test on the seized suspected methylenedioxymethamphetamine was carried out in the presence of the accused persons and it tested positive.
The methylenedioxymethamphetamine weighs approximately 1.30 grammes with a street value of ZWL $195 000-00.

It was Mliswa, who is a former ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman, who revealed the arrest of his daughter for the drug offence.
Posting on social media site X, Mliswa, now a village head, said he decided to disclose the matter “for posterity, clarity and factuality to prevail before the issue is bastardised in the social fora.”
He said his daughter stays with her mother and suggested that she has a streak of rebellion.

More Than 25 People Convicted Of Drug And Substance Abuse

Renowned gospel musician and pastor, Charles Charamba, has called on the Government to include the fight against drug and substance abuse in the new curriculum.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/include-drug-abuse-in-school-curriculum-says-charamba/">H-Metro</a>, Charamba stated that learners at the Early Childhood Development (ECD) level should be taught about the dangers of drug and substance abuse. He said:

Just like what happened when HIV and Aids was first discovered in Zimbabwe, it was included in the curriculum and people got to know about it.
I am of the view that children in early classes as ECD have the right to know some of these things like drug and substance abuse.
It’s no longer a secret that this monster is now out of hand and we can only help each other by promoting this awareness from the grassroots.
I also think that rehabilitation alone is not enough to address this issue but we can also teach our people at a young age.

Charamba also implored authorities to raise awareness about other social ills like sexual abuse in early grades. Said the veteran singer:

Police Release List Of Drug Lords, Barons And suppliers

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has warned its members not to engage in drug and substance abuse, saying it will not tolerate such behaviour in its ranks, reported the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/zna-warns-soldiers-against-drug-and-substance-abuse/">Chronicle</a>.
ZNA Chief of Staff Major General Hlanganani Dube warned military officers against drugs and substance abuse saying those found guilty will be discharged.
Major General Dube delivered the warning at a graduation parade of 335 soldiers who completed various courses at the Zimbabwe School of Infantry in Mbalabala on Friday, 01 December. He said:

The army has no place for anyone who abuses drugs and substances. Anyone who is found guilty will be discharged from the army instantly as it has greatly affected the youths of our nation.

The graduates comprised 14 junior officers, 320 non-commissioned officers, and one warrant officer.
They were drawn from different formations and units within the ZNA, except for 10 who were from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS).

Zimbabwe Soldiers Warned Against Drug And Substance Abuse

Police in Bulawayo have seized drugs and banned substances worth $8 million in recent raids amid indications that youths have started mixing common household grocery items such as Cerevita and Mazoe in drug concoctions to get high.
This was revealed by Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Permanent Secretary Paul Nyoni while speaking at a meeting on strategies against the scourge of drug and substance abuse at Mhlahlandlela Government Complex on Sunday. The <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/police-seize-8-million-worth-of-drugs-as-youths-incorporate-cerevita-into-abuse-patterns/">Chronicle</a> quoted Nyoni as saying:

Crystal meth and imbanje constitute most of the drugs being abused. Police have confiscated drugs amounting to $8 million. Youths are reportedly innovating around drugs and substance abuse.
A concoction of some of the country’s arguably best brands; cerevita and mazoe has become a substance consuming the youth as they innovate on the destructive path.

Some of the substances commonly abused in Zimbabwe include alcohol, marijuana (commonly known as “mbanje”), methamphetamines (commonly known as “mutoriro” or “guka”), cocaine, heroin, and prescription drugs.
Factors that contribute to drug and substance abuse in Zimbabwe include unemployment, poverty, peer pressure, lack of education and awareness about the consequences of substance abuse, easy access to drugs, and social or psychological challenges.
Drug and substance abuse pose serious health risks to individuals and society. It can lead to physical and mental health problems, addiction, impaired judgment, increased risk-taking behaviors, crime, and social disintegration.
In order to tackle drug and substance abuse, the Government has made efforts to establish drug rehabilitation centers and raise awareness about the dangers of substance abuse.
Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and various support groups in Zimbabwe provide counseling, rehabilitation, and education programmes to help individuals struggling with drug and substance abuse. 
These initiatives aim to offer assistance, support, and rehabilitation to affected individuals and their families.
Studies show that some young people start to abuse alcohol, drugs and other substances at the age of 12 years.

Zimbabweans Youths Now Using Cerevita And Mazoe In Drug Concoctions

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a two-week drug awareness campaign in secondary schools across Matabeleland South Province.
The campaign is aimed at fighting drug and substance abuse which has become prevalent in schools.
Statistics released by the Police indicate that cases of drug and substance abuse recorded in Matabeleland South province rose by 172 percent from January to April this year, compared to the same period last year.
From January to April 2022, 18 cases were recorded in the province, and 49 cases were recorded over the same period this year.
ZRP spokesperson in Matabeleland South Province, Inspector Loveness Mangena told the <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/police-launch-drug-abuse-campaign/">Chronicle</a> that Police will visit a number of schools during the two-week period. She said:

We have started a two-week educative crime awareness campaign targeting drug and substance abuse where we are visiting various secondary schools and engaging learners.
We are also talking about other crimes but our main focus is drug and substance abuse. We want learners to say no to drugs in order to save their lives.
The problem of drug abuse is destroying the lives of many youngsters and in some cases, lives have been lost. It’s a pity that this problem is being recorded even in school.
We want learners to act responsibly and be able to say no to drug abuse and other crime.
Pupils should report any acts of drug abuse which they see and they must report drug peddlers so that we might bring this problem to an end.
Communities are also encouraged to report businesses that operate beer outlets outside the law by allowing under-aged patrons and operating outside stipulated times.

Police Launch Drug Abuse Awareness Campaign In Secondary Schools

Zimdancehall artist Takura Chiwoniso, a.k.a Blot, was arrested by the police on Wednesday for drug abuse.
Blot was allegedly found using crystal meth in a parked Toyota Corolla by police officers.
A plastic bag containing some of the drugs was also recovered from the vehicle.
ZRP spokesperson in Harare Province Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, confirmed the arrest to H-Metro. He said:

Zimdancehall Musician Blot Arrested Over Illicit Drug Abuse

A senior official in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education says large schools with large numbers of learners have become breeding spaces for indiscipline and drug and substance abuse.
Makonde District Schools Inspector (DSI), Solomon Katoma said that it is difficult to monitor learners at learning institutions with a huge enrolment such as Nemakonde and as a result, pupils are exposed to drug and substance abuse. He said, as quoted by <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/https-www-newzimbabwe-com-top-schools-havens-of-indiscipline-drug-and-substance-abuse-says-education-ministry-official/">NewZimbabwe.com</a>:

We have recently witnessed the emergence of mega schools with unusually large numbers of more than 3 000 like in the case of Nemakonde.
These are mostly in the ghetto, are congested and thereby difficult to manage, especially in terms of discipline of students who are exposed to drug and substance abuse which have lately gotten into our schools.
We are calling on communities to fight this menace together so that we protect the child because their future can be ruined if we don’t take steps to eliminate drug abuse.
We are working hand in glove with police and all law enforcement agencies to educate as well as try to uproot the cause of drug abuse because if we don’t cut the supply chain, we would have done nothing to protect kids from hazards they face daily.

On Sunday, the church held various sporting activities such as football, volleyball, basketball and netball.

Brian Moyo of the Adventist Church said drug and substance abuse is no longer affecting urban societies only but has cascaded to rural areas as well. Moyo said:

This is a good initiative but it is high time to take awareness campaigns to places that have been marginalised for a long period such as rural areas.
Although drug and substance abuse seems to be prevalent in urban areas, the effects are also being felt in rural areas.
There is a need to talk about how Omalayitsha are bringing drugstore from Botswana and South Africa supplying youths.
We are going to capacitate the youths around the area of Solusi so that we tackle this issue and avoid relapses.

SDA Church Uses Sport To Fight Drug And Substance Abuse

Police detectives on Monday arrested ZPC Kariba Football Club player Mhango Winston Mutulasoni for allegedly dealing in dangerous drugs.
In a statement, Police said they recovered 4.7 kilogrammes of marijuana and BronCleer at Mutulasoni (35)’s place of residence.  Reads the statement:

On 01/05/23, detectives from CID Kariba acted on the received information and arrested a ZPC Kariba Football Club player, Mhango Winston Mutulasoni, alias Bagga (35), in connection with the unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.
The arrest led to the recovery of the following drugs and items at the suspect’s residence, approximately 4.7 kilogrammes of dagga, 11 bottles x 100ml Benylin with Codeine cough syrup, 01 bottle x 100ml BronCleer with Codeine cough syrup, 30 boxes of 10 x 100’s Ziplock Bags [packaging plastics], 01 x Electro Master Kitchen Scale, 02 x MH Mini Digital scales, 19 packs of 50 Toast Leaf rolling papers and 01 cigarette lighter.

In December 2022, Harare City Football Club player Jerry Chipangura (24) was jailed for 14 months for possessing 40g of methylenedioxymethamphetamine – commonly known as mutoriro he intended to sell in the city.
He was convicted and sentenced by Harare regional magistrate Feresi Chakanyuka.

ZPC Kariba Player Arrested Over Illegal Drugs

The Government says police have confiscated illicit drugs and substances valued at nearly ZWL$500 million from about 6 000 suspected drug dealers and users since the establishment of an Inter-Ministerial Taskforce on Drug and Substance Abuse in 2022.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Paul Mavima, told <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/rbz-introduces-gold-backed-digital-currency">The Sunday Mail</a> that some of the drugs seized by the tasks are crystal meth, cocaine, Ecstasy, dagga, Adco-Saltarpyn, BronCleer, Histalix and Benylyn. He said:
<blockquote>
Regarding supply reduction, the taskforce has managed to conduct surveillance activities across the country, leading to the arrest and prosecution of a cumulative 6 156 accused persons.
This was done through intensified surveillance, under Operation Clean Up Zimbabwe, where the taskforce managed to recover drugs and substances valued at $438 654 692, being crystal meth, cocaine, Ecstasy, dagga, Adco-Saltarpyn, BronCleer, Histalix and Benylyn.

Mavima also said the taskforce undertook surveillance missions at the Beitbridge Border Post, Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport and Victoria Falls International Airport.
He said the visits by the taskforce established that the porosity of border posts and airports, limited scanning equipment and limited staff capacity are the major causes of drugs and substances not being detected upon entry into Zimbabwe.
The Government recently established a $500 million drug and substance abuse mitigation fund towards the fight against drug and substance abuse. Said Mavima:

The purpose of the fund is to finance activities of all the pillars in terms of surveillance, awareness raising, capacity-building, purchase of medication, rehabilitation and psycho-social support, as well as community reintegration support.
The fund is administered by the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, and all pillars access the funds upon request, in line with the budget and plan.
Additionally, there is room for special requests for additional funds whenever justifiable need arises.

Police Recover Illicit Drugs Worth $500 Million

Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) commissioner-general, Godwin Matanga says the police force needs more resources to fully fight drug-related crimes, reported <a href="https://businesstimes.co.zw/drug-abuse-police-pleads-for-more-resources/">Business Times</a>.
Speaking at the Vision 2030 Movement engagement conference in Bulawayo last week, Matanga said currently the ZRP is not adequately equipped to fight the drug scourge. He said:

These include high-powered motor vehicles for high-speed chases and low-cost vehicles for patrols and surveillance, state-of-the-art technologies at ports of entry and exit, as well as funding for more localised and international training to catch up with new skills requirements in this field.
</blockquote>
Matanga said police have arrested over 4 000 people, including 466 suppliers. He added:

Again we confiscated and destroyed large quantities of substances. The drug mules from Brazil, India, Nigeria, and Latvia have been arrested while using undesignated points of entry to move the contraband.

Police Boss Pleads For More Resources To Combat Drug Abuse

Cabinet has approved the proposed structures for the establishment of the National Committee on the Elimination of Drug and Substance Abuse in Zimbabwe.
The Committee is expected to devise systematic and sustainable responses that will assist in curbing drug and substance abuse in the country.
Speaking after a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday evening, the Minister of Information Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa said:

Following Cabinet’s decision at its last Meeting to establish an institutional framework to decisively deal with the menace, Cabinet has decided to set up a National Committee on the Elimination of Drug and Substance Abuse.
The Committee will be empowered to come up with systematic and sustainable responses that will assist in ensuring that society is free of drug and substance abuse.

Mutsvangwa added that most of the illicit drugs being consumed in Zimbabwe are imported. She said:

Most of the dangerous drugs and substances being abused are imported, with the traffickers acting in cahoots with local drug lords and an array of criminal elements in our society.

Cabinet Forms National Committee On The Elimination Of Drugs

The government has provided $500 million under the drug and substance abuse mitigation fund to accelerate the fight against drug abuse.
This was said by President Mnangagwa while officiating at the inaugural Development Conference towards a drug-free nation for the Attainment of Vision 2030 at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Exhibition Centre in Bulawayo on Wednesday. He said:

It is my expectation that the $500 million availed by my government under the drug and substance abuse mitigation fund will accelerate high-impact activities and results in this fight to end drug abuse.
These activities should reach out to every corner of Zimbabwe, no one and no place should be left behind.
The need to mitigate the harm associated with substance abuse as well as negative health and psycho-social effects through the provision of holistic treatment services for affected individuals and families remains critical.
</blockquote>
Mnangagwa also said the government will establish more screening and counselling centres for drug and illegal substance abusers.

Govt Has Availed $500 Million To Fight Drug Abuse - ED

A man believed to be 23 years old from Mawane village in the Garanyemba area of Gwanda ran amok and destroyed property belonging to his neighbour.
The suspect, Jasper Sibanda, accused his elderly neighbour identified as Gogo MaNdlovu of spreading lies about him. He destroyed her three houses.
Ward 13 Mawane councillor Mitlas Ndlovu confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200010063/gwanda-youth-runs-amok">Southern Eye</a> saying Sibanda is currently on the run. Said Ndlovu:

The incident happened last week on Friday around 11 pm, he wanted to kill Gogo MaNdlovu’s two nieces accusing them of gossiping about him.
When they (nieces) heard him threatening to kill them they ran away from home together with their granny and hid in the bush.
That is when Sibanda started destroying the homestead until 4 AM.
There is a big challenge here in Garanyemba of youths engaging in a lot of drug abuse. We need a police station here to curb all these activities.
Another elderly woman from Mawane 2 was also raped last week by another youth. I do not know why these youths are targeting old women.

Ndlovu said the matter was reported to the police.

Gwanda Youth Ran Amok, Destroys 3 Houses

The Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church held a child-dedicated service in Emganwini, Bulawayo on Saturday to fight drug abuse.
Emganwini Seventh-day Adventist church district pastor Obadiah Ngwenya told <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local-news/article/200010023/sda-joins-drug-abuse-fight">Southern Eye</a> that the service was held under the theme: “There is Peace in the Midst of a Storm”.
He said that 77 children participated and dedicated themselves to God. Said Ngwenya:

Among them were 25 non-Adventists, who were accompanied by their family members.
Child dedication is a service that acknowledges that God is the only one who knows how to safeguard children.
God protects and guides the children and baptises them with the Holy Spirit.
The whole assurance of protection comes from God so that children are protected from all the social ills of this world.

Ward 26 councillor Mpumelelo Moyo commended the church for participating in the fight against drug abuse. Moyo said:
It is important for the church to take a leading role in the fight against drug and substance abuse, and to groom young people to become responsible citizens.

SDA Church Joins Fight Against Drug And Substance Abuse

Shamwari Yemwanasikana (SYS) held a drug and substance abuse campaign in Tagarika 3 Flats, Mbare, Harare, on Wednesday last week and engaged drug users, victims of drug abuse and concerned citizens.
Mbare is considered one of the country’s drug hotspots and has witnessed a rise in cases of rape, school dropouts, teen pregnancies, family disputes, delinquency and theft.
In a statement, Shamwari Yemwanasikana urged members of the public to join the fight against drug and substance abuse. It said:

Mbare has no stability and not every child has access to educational material or can afford to go to school.
As a result, they end up resorting to drugs and substances such as glue, broncleer, mangemba, cane sprit, marijuana, codeine and crystal meth.
The situation we encountered while conducting our campaign is very disheartening and it is sad that we are letting an entire generation go down the drain because of pressure from drug users and from things they encounter in their communities.

Shamwari Yemwanasikana Tackles Drug Abuse In Mbare

Zimbabwean comedian and motivational speaker, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Nigel_Tha_Slick_Pastor">Nigel “Tha Slick Pastor” Maritinyu</a>, says the world demands a lot from men, but they keep the pain to themselves.
Bamunini Nijo, a role he played <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gamuchirai_Duve">in one of his skits</a>, said women are not the only ones who need emotional support, but men also need it. In a post seen by Pindula News, Nijo said many men were depressed to the extent that some contemplated abusing drugs or even suicide. He said:

Not taking anything away from the ladies, but I feel like men go through a lot, especially young men who are navigating the “building” stage of their lives.
It’s either you have a lot of time for your family and no money to support them or you are busy making ends meet which ends up taking a lot of your time hence depriving your family of your presence.
The world demands a lot from the man. The wife needs attention, love, understanding and also provisions. The world requires your labour and service in exchange for a means to sustain your livelihood.
The man is constantly in competition , either with other men or circumstances of nature. At almost every turn and instance, the head of the family is constantly thinking and plotting, devising and scheming ways to survive and meet his family’s expectations.
But he’s human too. Sometimes he just wants to feel what it’s like to sit and enjoy TV like everyone else without a the threat of bills intruding his mind. Everyday, men are faced with situations that challenge their sufficiency. Will I make enough this month, am I satisfying my partner, will I retain my job in this recession, is my health alright with all the stress I’m constantly under?? So many questions, very few answers many a time.
Of all the things I have listed, I feel that the biggest burden is not even these problems but the greatest pain for the man is going through these challenges and feeling no one UNDERSTANDS you, they only expect from you.
While I do not approve, justify or condone the following I tend to UNDERSTAND how many end turning to:
1. Alcoholism
2. Pornography and womanizing
3. Drug and substance abuse
4. Absenteeism
5. Fits of rage
6. Suicide
Most times these behaviors and patterns begin as an escape channel, trying to avoid facing the beckoning reality with each passing second.
I repeat, those are not solutions but I think I get how people end up trapped in such.
Do you know it’s very normal for a man to want to just sit there and be quiet for 8 hours straight because life is tiring man and even talking becomes such a task. This is why some came up with the idea of a “man cave”, that room at home you can just retreat to and be yourself and enjoy your own company but kuno unoita man cave ipi uchiroja mu two rooms.
