United States-based Zimbabwean football enthusiast, Innocent Hadebe, has urged local football administrators to take school football seriously and make every attempt to take part in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Schools Competition.
Hadebe said the lifting of the country’s suspension by FIFA provides local football administrators with an opportunity to develop football at the grassroots level.
<a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/football-equipment-for-bulawayo-schools/">The Sunday News</a> reported that Hadebe and Premier Soccer League chief executive officer, Kenny Ndebele on Wednesday handed over football equipment sourced from Puma in the United States to schools in Bulawayo.
The Puma merchandise, worth over US$6 600, was donated to Imbizo Primary School and Matshayiskhova Primary School both in Luveve, Bulawayo.
Speaking on the sidelines of a handover of the football equipment, Hadebe said there was a need to invest in grassroots football. He said:

I am excited that Zimbabwe’s suspension from the world football family was recently lifted and this presents a lot of opportunities ahead for young players.
It is important that we hone emerging talent and fund grassroots football allowing youngsters to flourish.
The CAF Schools competition presents yet the most important platform as it will give us the impetus to develop the game on a wider scale forward at the grassroots level and the prize money CAF gives out is also a huge incentive and can make a big difference for the winning school.
I implore the football leadership that will come in to ensure that the country fields junior national teams in all regional, continental and world junior football competitions as it guarantees our young players adopt and adapt to a competitive spirit at that level at an early age.

Merchandise distributed to the two schools includes balls, agility ladders, cones, backpacks, caps, socks, vests, tot bags and men purses among other items.

Bulawayo Schools Receive Football Equipment Sourced From Puma

The Pakistan Embassy in Zimbabwe has donated 50 match and training balls to Dynamos Football Club, <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/dembare-get-backing-from-pakistan-embassy/">reported H-Metro</a>.
The balls were manufactured by a company called Goldsoni Pakistan, which is based in Sialkot.
Goldsoni Pakistan reportedly manufactures about 70 percent of world footballs.
Speaking during the handover ceremony on Friday, Ambassador Murad Baseer, a former footballer himself, said:

It is my privilege that we have engaged with Dynamos FC, one of the top teams of the Premier Soccer League here in Zimbabwe. I believe this is just the beginning of our cooperation with the club.
I used to pass by the Alexandra Sports Club adjacent to our Embassy and see the Glamour Boys in training, being a sportsman myself, I realised that engaging with a local football team will bring people-to-people contact and generate goodwill between Zimbabwe and Pakistan.
Sports can become an amazing link between people and can transcend borders and inhibitions between people.
It is my endeavour to engage with the people of Zimbabwe and introduce Pakistani Sports companies to Zimbabwe.
I am sure that the training and match balls handed over to the club today will become a precursor for their success and future cooperation between Dynamos FC and Goldstoni Pakistan.

Also speaking during the handover ceremony, Dynamos board chairman Bernard Marriot-Lusengo expressed gratitude to the Embassy of Pakistan for the donation. He said:

I am very happy to be here, receiving such a huge gesture. I understand these balls are very expensive and they are of the highest quality.
They have been customised as well and that’s very symbolic of the relationship that we have just started.
I am very humbled as the club board chairman. I heard that the Ambassador (Baseer) was always peeping through our training sessions as he passed by where our team trains.
Eventually, he decided to engage the secretary general (Webster Marechera), culminating in this gift.
I would like to assure him that we are a trustworthy brand and we hope to enhance this relationship going forward.

Pakistan Embassy Donates Match And Training Balls To Dynamos

The National Aids Council (NAC) has donated more than ZWL$300 million to the Basic Education Assistance Module (BEAM).
The donation was handed over by NAC chief executive officer Bernard Madzima to Deputy Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Lovemore Matuke on Friday at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF).
He said the money is for the payment of school fees and covering expenses for the vulnerable children so that they continue attending school thereby reducing the risk of contracting HIV. Said Madzima:
<blockquote>
I am honoured to hand over our contribution towards BEAM for 2023. This financial assistance is coming from the Nac Trust fund generally known as Aids levy.
As a country, we have achieved the 2025 95-95-95 targets and we are so proud of that milestone.
Despite this achievement, we are looking at around 500 000 affected children who are orphaned or now vulnerable due to HIV and AIDS hence this donation will ensure they have access to shelter, education and food.
This donation is part of our comprehensive approach to HIV prevention.
For over a decade now we have been contributing towards BEAM and I can safely say we cater for at least 10 per cent of the BEAM’s yearly budget.
We work towards the reduction of HIV and addressing education needs helps us reduce new infections.
This will help us achieve our target of ending AIDS as a public health concern by 2030.

95-95-95 means that 95 per cent of infected individuals know their status, 95 per cent of those infected are on medication and 95 per cent of those on medication achieve viral suppression.
BEAM is a Government-run programme aimed at providing financial assistance to vulnerable children who are in need of support to access education.
BEAM supports orphaned and vulnerable children aged between six and 19 and about 1.8 million children are being assisted under the programme.

National AIDS Council Donates $300 Million To BEAM

CCC councillors in Masvingo Urban have demanded that Masvingo City Council management should consult them first before approving donations from city coffers.
The issue of donations was raised by newly-elected Ward 4 councillor Alec Tabe during a recent full council meeting.
Tabe quizzed management on the “so-called donations” by the local authority towards various government and ZANU PF-linked occasions. He said:

Can management furnish us with details on this issue of donations that has become so common in our council minutes? Can’t there be another term to explain that?
There is a need for management to consult councillors before approving some of those donation requests.
Some of the so-called donations have provoked residents in our wards as residents seek explanation on the initiatives of which as councillors, we won’t have any.

Re-elected Ward 7 councillor Richard Musekiwa urged council management to refer requests for donations to councillors who are also politicians to deliberate on them before approval.
He said it was not right for council management to table the requests before councillors for ratification long after the funds are disbursed. Said Musekiwa:

Since those people who come applying for donations are politicians, it would rather be better for you management to consult councillors who are also politicians to deliberate on the matter, unlike a situation in which the requests are brought before councillors after the funds are disbursed.

Responding to the requests by councillors, Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa said that in future, they will inform the people applying for such donations to first forward their requests to councillors before approval of such.

Councillors Want Council Management To Consult Before Making Donations

A local startup called Fresh In A Box used Twitter, Facebook, and WhatsApp to raise thousands of dollars (RTGS) for university for a bright young man who was stuck selling newspapers at a bus terminus in Murehwa.
The young man, Rangania Zhakata, passed his O and A level examinations extremely well, and got a place at the University of Zimbabwe but was unable to secure the money to enroll.
The local startup saw the appeal for help that was posted on Twitter and took it upon itself to mobilise funds for Zhakazta’s education.
<blockquote>Our Vendor-in-Chief found this young vendor in Murehwa who has phenomenal results on Twitter and he can’t afford uni. We have pledged $1000 Rtgs to his tuition and our VIC has matched it. They appealed to Zimbabweans on social media and created a WhatsApp group coordinated donations. Eventually, they raised “UZ fees, Accomodation, clothing, a smartphone, a laptop , his data for first year, fridge, stove and loads more.”
Zhakata and his mother travelled to Harare on Saturdday, 8 June to receive the donations from the startup.

Local Startup Uses Social Media & WhatsApp To Help Bright Student Raise Thousands For University

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) will tax specific classes of donations to beef up the fiscus.
Zimra said even though donations are not incurred for the purposes of trade or in the production of income, there are circumstances under which they can be taxed. According to Zimra, donations to the National Scholarship Fund, the National Bursary Fund, a charitable trust administered by the minister responsible for Social Welfare or the minister responsible for Health, are liable to tax and there is no limit to the amount. The principle also applies to funds to any one of the following, provided it is approved by the minister responsible for Health:
<blockquote>i. Purchase of medical equipment for a hospital operated by the State, local authority or religious organisation.
ii. Construction, maintenance or extension of a hospital operated by the State, local authority or religious organisation.
iii. Procurement of drugs to be used by a hospital operated by the State, local authority or religious organisation. In such cases, the maximum allowed as a deduction is US$100 000.</blockquote>
Zimra also said a research institution approved by the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education is also taxable, with the maximum amount allowed as a deduction pegged at US$100 000. Zimra also said public private partnership funds, otherwise known as PPPs, are subject to this requirement with the amount allowed as a deduction pegged at US$50 000. Also among those that can be taxed is the Destitute Homeless Persons Rehabilitation Fund, established under the ministry of Finance, which has an allowed maximum reduction of US$50 000.
