A 51-year-old man from Chimanimani, Manicaland Province, was sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping a 10 year girl.
The accused recently appeared before the Chimanimani Magistrates’ Court for raping a 10-year girl on 27 October 2023.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), the brief facts of the case are that on 26 October 2023, the accused person passed by the complainant’s house and found her mother cooking. The NPA said:

He entered the hut, drunk, and fell asleep. The complainant’s mother went to sleep in another room after preparing dinner, leaving her daughter in the hut with the accused person.
The complainant and her cousin slept in the same room as the accused. The next day, 27 October 2023, at around 0400hrs, the accused woke up, raped the complainant and told her not to tell anyone promising her money. He then went to the complainant’s mother’s room to ask for water.

According to prosecutors, the mother heard her daughter crying and inquired about the cause. The minor confided in her mother, revealing that she had been raped. The incident was reported to the police on October 28, resulting in the arrest of the accused.
In another rape case, a 52-year-old man from Chipinge was dragged before the Chipinge Magistrates’ Court facing two counts of indecent assault and a single count of rape. The NPA said:

On the 17th of March 2024, the accused person went to the complainant’s place of residence where he was employed as a herd man.
He asked the two complainants, one aged 12 and the other aged 13 to come with him to his homestead to collect some maize cobs and watermelons.
Whilst at the accused’s residence he asked the complainants to enter into his bedroom before he pulled out his manhood, fondled their breasts and rubbed his manhood on them.
On the 23rd of March 2024, the accused person asked the 12-year-old complainant to accompany him to his homestead. She went with her three-year-old cousin.
The accused person asked the complainant to enter into his bedroom where he fondled her breasts before he raped her.
The matter came to light when the complainant’s aunt found her in the accused person’s bedroom.
The aunt later interrogated her and the complainant confided in her leading to the accused person’s arrest.

The accused was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment each for the first and second counts (indecent assault).
He was sentenced to a further 20 years imprisonment for the third count (rape) of which three years were suspended.

Man (51) Jailed 20 Years For Raping 10-year-old Girl

The Zimbabwe Meteorological Services Department (MSD), in collaboration with the Civil Protection Department, has released the evening weather report and forecast for Zimbabwe, valid from Tuesday, November 28, 2023, until Thursday, November 30, 2023.
The morning of this Tuesday was characterised by mostly sunny and mild conditions. However, as the day progressed, it became partly cloudy to cloudy in most parts of the country. Some light thundershowers were experienced in specific provinces, including Matabeleland North, Mashonaland West, and Manicaland.
Moving on to the forecast for Wednesday, November 29, 2023, it is expected to begin with partly cloudy and mild conditions in the morning across most parts of the country. However, as the day progresses, cloud developments are anticipated, leading to scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. These thunderstorms are a result of cloud systems approaching from the northwest.
During this period, the risk of lightning strikes is significantly increased, posing a potential danger to all areas. It is important to note that lightning can strike even when clouds appear distant, a scientific phenomenon known as lightning from the blue. The atmosphere is also conducive to localized hailstorms and strong winds.

MSD Predicts Cloudy Weather Across Most Of Zimbabwe To Continue

Three siblings from Chimanimani District have approached a traditional court seeking to find out why 16 of their female relatives between the ages of 20 and 40 are not yet married.
The three, Loveness Chihota (34), Anniah Chokera (27) and Liberty Chokera, said they want to know what is causing marriage delays in the family.
They are accusing their uncles Oliver, Nobert, Lovemore, John, Ngwarirai and Tendai Chokera of witchcraft, and have dragged them to Acting Chief Saurombe’s court.
Speaking in a recent interview with <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/family-of-16-unmarried-women/">The Manica Post</a>, Anniah claimed that each time one of them elopes, she is sent back within a week as they manifest with some spirit demanding them back home. She said:

We are cousins suffering from this strange phenomenon. In fact, a total of 16 women are not married in our family. We have tried to seek an audience with our fathers, but it seems as if all of them do not care.
They act as if they are working in cohorts to stop us from getting married. We have secretly approached spiritual healers and we were told that our fathers are behind our suffering.
It is getting out of hand because when one of us elopes, they are possessed by an unknown spirit and manifests in front of the in-laws.
Within a week, they would have sent you back to your parents’ home. This has been happening for a long time. Most of us have encountered this.
</blockquote>
Testifying before the court, Loveness said women from her family are very good looking but men in the area are now afraid of befriending or dating women. Said Loveness:

We have tried to engage our fathers over this issue, but our pleas have been falling on deaf ears.
We decided to seek the services of the traditional courts for our plea to be heard.
We are good looking, but potential suitors from our area no longer want to get close to us.
</blockquote>
She also claimed that some of their siblings suffer from bouts of mental illness.
In response to the allegations on behalf of all his brothers, Nobert said they were not responsible for what was happening in their family but were equally concerned. He said:

No father wants to see his daughter remain single forever. Our daughters are very beautiful and we also wonder why no one is trying to seek their hands in marriage.

The family was referred to a traditional healer, but the “sangoma” ordered them to come back with their brother, Tendai, who was absent on the day.
The matter was adjourned to Sunday, 22 October.

Family Of 16 Unmarried Women Seeks Help

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) and the Civil Protection Department in Zimbabwe have announced that there will be significant rainfall in certain parts of the country this week. MSD: Significant Amounts Of Rainfall Expected In Some Parts Of Zimbabwe

Chief Timothy Munorowazve Muusha of <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chimanimani/">Chimanimani</a> in Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe has reversed his decision to fine two <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Citizens%27_Coalition_for_Change/">Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC)</a> activists for refusing to vote for the ruling party, Zanu PF, during the 23 August 2023 elections.
The chief had initially ordered the activists to pay a fine of three goats each. However, following the publication of the story by <a href="https://www.newzimbabwe.com/https-www-newzimbabwe-com-chief-muusha-reverses-controversial-decision-to-fine-ccc-activists-for-refusing-to-vote-for-zanu-pf/">NewZimbabwe.com</a> and the intervention of lawyers from <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Zimbabwe_Lawyers_for_Human_Rights/">Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR)</a>, the chief dropped the charges and declared that the activists had no case to answer.
Solomon Tambwera, one of the activists, expressed his lack of surprise at the chief’s decision, stating that they had not committed any offence in the first place. Tambwera mentioned that the chief did not provide any reasons for withdrawing the charges but instructed his secretaries not to handle any political-related cases in the future. Tambwera said:

We were not shocked or surprised when the Chief on Saturday announced that we had no case to answer. In the first place, the Chief was not supposed to have summoned us to his court, for exercising our Constitutional rights. We knew we were being victimised for supporting CCC. Instead of demoralizing us, this incident actually bolstered us. The Chief did not explain why he reversed his earlier decision but grudgingly simply said the case is closed. He said in future we should not provoke each other

The activists thanked NewZimbabwe.com and ZLHR for bringing attention to their situation and representing them. Tambwera said:

A lot of citizens’ rights are being trampled upon every day in rural areas. Had it not been the coverage and intervention of ZLHR we could have unnecessarily lost our livestock. We are really grateful to New Zimbabwe.Com for exposing this chicanery.

For years, there have been claims that traditional leaders, including chiefs and village heads, have been actively involved in campaigning for the ruling party, ZANU PF, in Zimbabwe. It has been alleged that these leaders have compelled their subjects to attend ZANU PF rallies and vote for the party. In return, the government of ZANU PF has provided them with various benefits, such as cars and the electrification of their homes.
Such actions by traditional leaders are unconstitutional according to the Zimbabwean constitution which upholds the principles of political neutrality and prohibits traditional leaders from engaging in partisan politics. Traditional leaders are expected to remain impartial and serve all members of their communities without bias towards any political party.
Despite these constitutional provisions, some traditional leaders, including Chief Fortune Charumbira, have openly declared their support for ZANU PF, which raises concerns about their adherence to the constitutional requirements. This open display of political affiliation by traditional leaders goes against the principles of fairness, impartiality, and equal treatment of all citizens.
Chief Nhlanhlayemangwe Felix Ndiweni, one of the traditional leaders known for openly criticising the ZANU PF government, was removed from his position by President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> on November 30, 2019. This led some to believe that it was in response to his criticism of the government. Ndiweni had previously clashed with government officials over issues such as Gukurahundi, sanctions, and land claims.

The Meteorological Services Department, in collaboration with the Department of Civil Protection, has issued the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwe Evening Weather Report</a> and Forecast, valid until Monday, 17 July 2023 noting a continuation of the cold spell.
The Met Department said on Saturday, 15 July 2023, most parts of the country experienced cloudy, windy, and cold weather in the morning with some drizzle in Manicaland and Mashonaland East provinces. However, <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Mashonaland West</a> and western parts of Mashonaland Central had clear skies, resulting in <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">moderate ground frost</a> in Henderson and slight frost in Karoi. As the day progressed, the clouds lifted and burnt off in some areas, especially in the southern provinces.
On Sunday, 16 July 2023, most parts of the country are expected to have clear skies, although patches of clouds may be seen during the day due to remnant moisture in the atmosphere. This is expected to cause nighttime temperatures to drop significantly, leading to <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">severe ground frost</a> in areas such as Matopos, Nyanga, Marondera, Henderson, and Gweru, while Kadoma, Lupane, Rusape, Mukandi, Chivhu, and Harare are expected to have moderate ground frost. The severe ground frost may affect the health of vulnerable members of society and trigger respiratory-related illnesses in all persons. Plants and animals are also sensitive to overnight temperature declines.
To mitigate the effects of cold weather, people should keep warm and ensure that vulnerable members are dressed appropriately. If there is a need to use a brazier or fire to keep warm, the room should be well-ventilated. Farmers with crops vulnerable to extreme cold should consult their local Agritex Officers for better advice on frost mitigation measures. Additionally, people should monitor temperatures within <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">fowl runs</a> and adjust accordingly to reduce the impacts of cold conditions on the bird population.
On Monday, 17 July 2023, a cold night and severe ground frost are expected mainly in areas such as Tsholotsho, Matopos, Henderson, Kadoma, Lupane, Gweru, Marondera, Mukandi, Chivhu, Nyanga, and Harare. However, mostly sunny conditions are expected during the day over the entire country, and temperatures should rise to the mild category.

Zimbabwe Weather: MSD Forecasts Continuation Of Cold Spell

The Meteorological Services Department (MSD), in conjunction with the Department of Civil Protection, has issued the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">Zimbabwe evening weather report</a> and forecast for Wednesday 21 June 2023, valid until Friday 23 June 2023.
MSD reported that a change in the <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">wind regime</a> overnight resulted in <a class="MarkdownLink_linkifiedLink__KxC9G">moderate ground frost</a> in Matopos, Lupane, Rusape, and Henderson, and drizzle in Chisumbanje. By evening, the south-easterly winds began to die down.
On Thursday 22 June 2023, very cold morning conditions are anticipated over the Highveld, with moderate ground frost in Matopos, Lupane, Nkayi, Gweru, Henderson, Rusape, Marondera, Nyanga, Mukandi, and Mount Darwin. All other areas will be cold at first, becoming warm by afternoon with clear skies and a cooling breeze towards evening.
The weather outlook for Friday 23 June 2023 predicts cloudy, windy, and cold conditions in certain provinces, including Masvingo, Matabeleland South, and southern areas of the Midlands. Measures should be taken to mitigate the effects of the cold, including monitoring temperature within fowl-runs and adjusting accordingly, keeping warm, and dressing appropriately for vulnerable members of the community, such as children, the elderly, and those with respiratory-related illnesses.
Cattle rearers can provide shelter for their livestock to protect them from the cold, and ensure they are properly fed and watered. Poultry farmers, especially those with day-old chicks, should monitor the temperature within their fowl runs and adjust accordingly to reduce the impact of cold conditions on their bird population.

Freddy’s outer-spiral cloud bands (stretching over more than a 750 km radius) resulted in cloudy, windy and mild conditions over the southern and eastern parts of the country (Matabeleland South, Masvingo, south-western parts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, Manicaland and all Mashonaland Provinces), with light drizzle in Masvingo, Manicaland and southern parts of Mashonaland East. Other parts of the country had mostly sunny but also became windy towards evening.

Windy conditions are expected over much of the country, strengthening towards evening. Out of these, the highest was only 21mm at Mount Darwin followed by Chinhoyi at 14mm. MSD Update On Tropical Cyclone Freddy

The <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Meteorological_Services_Department">Meteorological Services Department (MSD)</a> of Zimbabwe has forecasted that most parts of the country will experience sunny weather conditions on Monday. 
In a weather report and forecast seen by Pindula News, MSD urged members to take safety precaution measures to avoid disasters associated with the rainy season. Reads the weather update:

<h2>PREAMBLE</h2>
Cloudy conditions prevailed in the morning in southern provinces in the morning with patchy drizzle and rain in some areas. Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, and Harare Metropolitan Provinces experienced isolated thunderstorms. Significant rainfall amounts that were measured were 48mm at Guruve Met Office and 13mm at the Gokwe Met office. The rest of the country (Mashonaland West, and Matabeleland North Province) had mostly sunny and warm weather.
<h2>FORECAST FOR TOMORROW, SUNDAY 05 MARCH 2023</h2>
Most parts of the country should be under mostly sunny conditions with light breeze except for the extreme north and eastern parts of the country namely Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central and northern parts of Manicaland Province where brief cloudy periods are expected in the afternoon with a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Zimbabwe Weather Report, Forecast: 4 - 6 March 2023

Tropical Cyclone Freddy has killed 2 people and blown off several roofs in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chimanimani">Chimanimani</a> and <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chipinge">Chipinge</a> in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Manicaland_Province">Manicaland province.</a>
The country’s <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Meteorological_Services_Department">Metrological Services Departments (MSD)</a> has said Cyclone Freddy has weakened considerably and was a moderate tropical storm when it reached Mozambique on Friday, as well as Chimanimani and Chipinge in Zimbabwe.
In Zimbabwe, the two districts lost seven cattle, while two people were confirmed dead after being struck by lightning.
Some schools in both districts had their roofs blown off on Friday due to incessant rains and heavy winds.
Department of Civil Protection (DCP) deputy director in charge of response and operations, Farai Hokonya yesterday confirmed that Cyclone Freddy had killed 2 people in Manicaland. He told <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200008100/cyclone-freddy-claims-2-lives-in-manicaland">NewsDay</a>:

We have received reports in Chimanimani, and I know there is something also in Chipinge. I’m still trying to get hold of those in Chipinge to verify the issue. We don’t have the names of the deceased, we only recorded the deaths. It’s unfortunate I’m on the highway driving.

MSD head of forecast, James Ngoma said the department was closely monitoring the situation adding that the public should not panic. He is cited as saying:

Our warning category was on level one, which is not a panic warning. When we get to level eight and nine that’s when people can have that panic mode. Basically what I’m saying is that we are very safe.
The areas that we had mentioned that were going to be affected by the cyclone were the southeastern parts of the country, Chipinge, Chimanimani, Chiredzi, Mwenezi, Beitbridge, Bikita, Zaka and Buhera.
We never mentioned Harare, so people who are waiting for the cyclone to affect Harare, honestly we don’t know where they are getting that information from. We are closely monitoring the situation. The south-eastern parts today (yesterday) received 30mm of rain, and a few roofs have been blown off in Chipinge and Chimanimani.

Last week, the government was forced to close schools in areas that were likely to be affected by the Cyclone to avoid loss of lives.
In neighbouring Mozambique, Cyclone Freddy hit the country on February 24 with winds that reached 113 kilometres per hour after making landfall in the eastern city of Vilankulo where it caused the destruction of infrastructure.
In Madagascar, seven people died due to the cyclone.

Cyclone Freddy Kills 2 People In Manicaland

It has emerged that a ZANU PF official who was allegedly kidnapped by opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) supporters was visiting his girlfriend in Mozambique.
Nicholas Madzianike was reported missing on June 19 and CCC supporters Chengetai Musudu, Hakata Musudu and Aaron Chizemo were subsequently arrested in connection with the claimed abduction.
Police confirmed at the weekend without giving more details that Madzianike who is ZANU PF’s Chimanimani district youth <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2022/07/02/zanu-pf-official-who-went-missing-on-19-june-has-been-found-zrp/">chairperson had been found.</a>
In a statement seen by Pindula News, ZRP said Nicholas Madzianike was being interviewed by police. Reads the statement:

The ZRP reports that the missing ZANU PF Youth Chairman for Bumba District in Chimanimani, Nicholas Madzianike who went missing on 19/06/22 has been found and is currently being interviewed by the Police.
</blockquote>
However, sources in Chimanimani said Madzianike was discovered on Saturday soon after returning from Mozambique where he had gone to see his girlfriend.
Sources told NewZimbabwe:

Madzianike was never abducted.
He was in Mozambique where he was having a nice time with his girlfriend. He come back on Saturday in good health.
</blockquote>
CCC sources described Madzianike’s return as a great relief as their members were being arrested while some were severely tortured by Central Intelligence Organisation operatives over his disappearance.

"Missing" ZANU PF Official Was Visiting A Girlfriend In Mozambique - Report

A Chimanimani man was killed by the son of a woman he had allegedly held hostage on satanism allegations.
The suspected murderer, Clever Mwandipererwa (29) of Nemaramba Village under Chief Mutambara was dragged before a magistrate last week.
He was not asked to plead when he appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Langton Carter.
Mwandipererwa was remanded in custody to Wednesday.
Prosecutor Nyasha Donald Mukonyora told the court that Mwandipererwa struck his neighbour, Godfrey Murungura (27) after he had allegedly abducted his mother.
Mukonyora said on 8 June, Mwandipererwa’s mother, Gogo Irene Gapara (62), was abducted by Murungura and other villagers over allegations that she was practising Satanism.
Gogo Mapara was allegedly detained at Murungura’s home for a night. Said Mukonyora:

On June 9, Mwandipererwa approached Murungura and asked him to release his mother. Murungura refused and a dispute ensued between the two.
Mwandipererwa tried to force his way into the room where his mother was detained, but Murungura barred him from doing so.
There was an altercation between the two, resulting in Mwandipererwa taking a stone and striking the deceased with it.
Mwandipererwa lunged on Murungura and he fell to the ground. He attacked him with a handle of an axe.
He later grabbed a pick handle and continued pummelling Murungura with it until he lost consciousness. Murungura died on the spot.
</blockquote>
A report was made to the police who attended the scene.
The deceased’s body was taken to Birchenough Bridge Hospital mortuary.

Man Fatally Assaulted For Abducting Granny On Satanism Allegations

A 12-year-old girl from Chimanimani was abducted and held hostage for hours before being dumped by the roadside.
The incident occurred in Pfumo B Village in Chief Muusha’s area of Chimanimani.
The juvenile (name withheld) was allegedly kidnapped by an unknown suspect before she was found lying unconscious with her hands and legs tied with a rope. The motive for the abduction was not revealed.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident, saying:

The juvenile’s mother, Ms Christina Mugwambeyi and her four children left their home for the fields and after walking for a short distance, she realised that she had left some food at home which they wanted to have later on. She sent the juvenile back home to collect the food.
She instructed one of her daughters to wait for the juvenile while they proceeded to the fields.
The child who was instructed to wait for the would-be victim got frustrated and proceeded to the fields.
She told Ms Mugwambeyi that she had come alone to the fields after having waited in vain for her sister who had not shown up.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka added that Ms Mugwambeyi then called Ms Lucia Ndarera inquiring about her daughter’s whereabouts. He said:

Ms Ndarera told Ms Mugwambeyi that the juvenile had already collected the food and followed them to the fields.
Later during the day, she received information that the juvenile was seen lying unconscious by the roadside.
Her hands and legs were tied with a rope. She was taken to Nyahode Clinic for medical examination before she was transferred to Mutambara Mission Hospital where she is admitted.
We are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the suspect(s) to contact their nearest police station.

Suspected Kidnappers Dump Girl (12) By The Roadside

Police in Mutare have arrested four men who were found in possession of diamonds without a licence.  National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi on Saturday said the men had 75 diamond carats in their possession. Said Nyathi:

on 17th September 2021, Police arrested Romeo Charles Tembo (35), Luckmore Chikove (32), Tonderai Madzivanzira (22), Teererai Chigariro (22) and Munashe Tatenda Washington Mhazo (24) for possession of diamonds without a licence or permit and possession of articles for criminal use.
The suspects were arrested in Mutare after a tip-off from members of the public and a total of 75 diamond carats were recovered.

In an unrelated development, 72 illegal panners were arrested in Chimanimani under a joint operation between the police and Zimbabwe National Army, code-named: “Operation Gweja Dzoka Kumba”.
16 vehicles that were involved in illegal activities at Charleswood Estate were also impounded as law enforcement agents intensify efforts to bring order to the resort area following a recent diamond rush.
Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wisemen Chinyoka, confirmed the development. He said:

72 people were arrested in connection with the illegal panning of diamonds at Charleswood in Chimanimani.
This followed a diamond rush after the discovery of alluvial diamonds in the area on August 14.
Deployments started on September 6 to clear illegal panners who had set base at Mr Brian Jerekete’s farm where the diamonds were discovered.
The operation managed to arrest 72 people and 49 of them were made to pay fines. The others appeared in court facing various charges.

Assistant Inspector Chinyoka added that the operation also recovered dangerous weapons as well as some precious stones. He said:

Police arrested two individuals for possessing pistols. We recovered a CZ pistol with eight rounds, a Star pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition. Licences of the two pistols had expired. Shovels, crossbars and a knife were also recovered.

Four Mutare Men Arrested Over 75 Diamond Carats

Hundreds of illegal diamond panners and foreign nationals believed to be buyers are flocking to Chimanimani following the reported discovery of alluvial diamonds near Charleswood Farm.
Police officers were deployed to the area to thwart the illegal activities but some panners are reportedly bribing law enforcement agents and Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) security officials seconded to the area to gain entry.
Chimanimani District Development Coordinator Joseph Manyurapasi, Officer Commanding Chipinge District, Chief Superintendent Kennedy Nyaumwe and Chief Chikukwa all confirmed the influx of illegal diamond panners in the area. Said Manyurapasi:

From what we have gathered, there is nothing much in terms of diamonds being obtained from the areas where the panners are camped.
Some people had already set up flea markets there, but the volume of traffic has increased in the past few days. We hope normalcy will return to the area very soon.

Chief Superintendent Nyaumwe said they had deployed more law enforcement agents to disperse illegal panners at Charleswood.
Investigations by The Manica Post revealed that the diamond rush was a confirmation of the recent geographical survey carried out by ZCDC in 2017 in Chimanimani which showed that there is a rich diamond belt stretching from Tilbury down to Mozambique.
Chimanimani Assistant District Development Coordinator, Tawona Nengomasha, also confirmed the development and said land exploration was conducted by the diamond company some time back, but nothing was being done in terms of proper mining. Said Nengomasha:

Samples were extracted by the diamond company on the land in question sometimes in 2016 and the stakeholders involved agreed that the 50 families staying there should be moved.
</blockquote>
He said the families were supposed to be relocated to an identified place after they had received compensation first.
Nengomasha added that the process was stalled by Cyclone Idai which hit the district in 2019.
A panner who identified himself as Ngorima said the diamonds they are getting are almost similar to the ones found in Chiadzwa. Ngorima said:

The diamonds are easy to extract since they are close to the surface. While security details were recently deployed here, we are still finding our way to the shafts. 
Initially, we were paying them US$1, but they are now demanding US$10 for us to pan at night.

Diamond Rush In Chimanimani

Opposition MDC Alliance has said its supporters in Chimanimani have claimed that they are being intimidated and sometimes beaten up by Zanu PF supporters for not supporting the ruling party.
 The supporters are also reportedly being asked to surrender their registration details for them to get free agricultural inputs under the presidential input scheme.
MDC Alliance Manicaland spokesperson David Panganai said, ahead of the 2023 polls, there were growing fears of human rights violations by ruling party supporters. Panganai said:
<blockquote>
I have reports of intimidation around Manicaland and Chimanimani in particular.
They are being told at meetings that if they do not vote for Zanu PF, they are not going to receive presidential inputs or they will be beaten.
We have reports that our supporters are being asked by Zanu PF supporters to surrender their registration details so that they will get land. Why do they need registration details? This is clear intimidation.

Founder of Young Entrepreneurs Trust Zimbabwe, Fungai Nhaitai, said he was manhandled by unknown persons who claimed that he was mobilising youths in Mutare to vote against Zanu PF.
A member of a local non-governmental organisation, Rutendo Gwawu, who also attended a meeting organised by Nhaitai said he was taken outside the meeting by some people impersonating the police and quizzed over his political affiliation.
But Zanu PF Manicaland acting secretary for administration Misheck Mugadza refuted the claims saying ZANU PF is a democratic party. He added:

We are focusing on mobilising five million votes ahead of the 2023 elections. The new dispensation does not abuse people, MDC supporters should come and get presidential inputs and land.

Zimbabwe has a history of human rights abuses towards elections and the reports of intimidation instil fear after some ZANU PF officials, including president Mnangagwa’s spokesperson <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/its-blasphemy-to-think-war-veterans-will-let-chamisa-rule-zimbabwe-charamba/">George Charamba, openly declared that the party will not relinquish power even if it loses.</a>

MDC Alliance Reports Intimidation Of Supporters By ZANU PF

Police are investigating a suspected rape and murder case in which a man allegedly raped and impregnated a 14-year-old girl and then went on to kill the baby with the assistance of his wife and neighbour.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) posted on its Twitter page saying the incidences occurred in September 2020 and June 2021. The trio poisoned the newly born baby. Said the police:

Police in Nyamandlovu are investigating circumstances surrounding cases of rape and murder which occurred at Zimdabule Village in September 2020 and June 2021. In September 2020 one of the suspects raped the victim (14) who became pregnant and gave birth to a baby in June 2021.
The suspect and his wife as well as their neighbour administered an unknown poison to the newly born baby. The body was then buried within the yard. It was later exhumed and reburied outside the homestead. Investigations are in progress.

In a related matter, police are investigating an attempted murder case that occurred on Thursday in which the suspect is said to be mentally challenged. Said the police:

Police in Chimanimani are investigating cases of attempted murder and murder which occurred on 26/08/21 at Dzitiro Village. The suspect (28) who is mentally challenged seriously injured the first victim (77) after striking him with an adze (mbezo in Shona)
He later struck the second victim (66) to death with same adze. Investigations are in progress.
