United Kingdom-based dethroned chief, Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, won £39 000 through the Postcode Lottery last week.
Ndiweni told <a href="https://cite.org.zw/chief-ndiwenis-christmas-cheer-doubled-with-39000-lottery-win/">CITE</a> that the win came as a surprise to him as he had never played it before and was not expecting to win. He said:
<blockquote>
In the UK we have the National Lottery just like any other country. So you buy a ticket and then you check whether they draw your number on that particular date. The one that I entered is the People’s Postcode Lottery. I had never played it before.
This particular lottery was designed to help the community. So when you play it, you write down your address and you register with them.
You then write down your postcode on the ticket. These tickets are drawn out almost daily.
They may either draw out just your Postcode or several postcodes around your area.
From there that is when they will choose and select to say you have won so many tickets.
As someone who had never played the lottery before, I purchased one ticket for 40 pence.
I didn’t even know how to do it or how to play it. I later received a letter informing me that I had won the Lottery in my area.

The dethroned traditional leader said at first, he didn’t believe he had won the lottery but thought the whole thing was a scam. He said:
<blockquote>
I was quite sceptical at first. As I went through the document, I came across a part that required me to send my bank details.
I said to myself, no, this is a scam! I just put the letter aside and forgot about it. It was only after I had gone out to buy groceries that I came across a truck from Postcode Lottery announcing that all those who had won were supposed to report to a certain school to claim their money.
It was only then that I went back home and took that letter and took it to the said school. When I got there they told me that I had played three tickets and the least that one would win for each ticket would be £3 000.
I thought to myself that maybe I had won £9 000 from the three tickets I had played but God had smiled at me and I had won £39 915. I was so elated.

He said the money raised by the Postcode lottery is used to help local schools, clinics and other local projects through various community development projects.
The Postcode Lottery in the United Kingdom is a popular lottery game where participants enter with their postcode. 
Each week, a winning postcode is randomly drawn, and the prize is shared among the individuals living in that specific postcode area.
The prize money can vary and may include cash rewards, cars, vacations, and more.
However, playing the lottery is risky as the odds of winning are usually extremely low, which means one is more likely to lose the money they spend on tickets.

Dethroned Chief Ndiweni Wins £39 000 Through Postcode Lottery

Dethroned Ntabazinduna chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni has urged Zimbabweans to turn out in large numbers for Wednesday’s general elections saying the 2023 elections are more important than all other elections held before.
Ndiweni, who is based in the United Kingdom, has been campaigning for a Diaspora Vote for Zimbabweans living abroad.
He said Zimbabweans should lay aside their frustrations with results from previous elections and vote in large numbers tomorrow. <a href="https://cite.org.zw/chief-ndiweni-urges-zimbabweans-to-vote-in-large-numbers/">Said Ndiweni</a>:
<blockquote>
I know that you are fatigued and things are not going well. But if you want to see a better future for Zimbabwe, you have to vote. Don’t give up hope.
</blockquote>
Ndiweni also urged Zimbabwe to stay close to polling stations after voting to ensure that electoral authorities do not tamper with ballots. He said:
<blockquote>
After voting, stay close to the polling station to defend your vote. Don’t leave your vote alone otherwise, it can be lost. 
Stay close until the counting has been done then you can know who defeated who.
The phrase “If we had done this” is very painful after a moment has passed. So what we can all do at this moment is vote…
If you don’t vote, they have won, Vote for your choice.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner General Tandabantu Godwin Matanga has warned voters against gathering outside polling stations to wait for the announcement of results, saying doing so is illegal under the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act Chapter 11:23.
Matanga on Tuesday said people should vote and go home and wait for the announcement of results at home.

Ndiweni Urges Zimbabweans To Vote In Large Numbers

Former Ntabazinduna Chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, who was dethroned by the government, has urged the president of the Zimbabwe Chiefs Council, Chief Fortune Zephania Charumbira to resign after his niece reported him to the police for allegedly sexually abusing her.
Charumbira, who is also the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) president, was reported to the police in Masvingo over a week ago for allegedly sexually abusing his 27-year-old married niece.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/thestandard/news/article/200010572/charumbira-in-fix-over-sex-assault-storm">The Standard</a> from the United Kingdom, Ndiweni said Charumbira’s case exposes the breakdown of the rule of law in the country. He said:
<blockquote>
The government of the day, the ruling ZANU PF, has been playing around with the legislation for quite some time and they have been very slow, on purpose, to re-align laws with the 2013 constitution.
As a result of this, it has opened a huge gap within our laws whereby people do not get to know where they stand and some people took the view that if you are a card-carrying member of ZANU PF, you are above the law.

Ndiweni said that Charumbira has tarnished the image of traditional leaders and should therefore immediately step down. He said:
<blockquote>
If he doesn’t step away, it tarnishes the whole institution of traditional leaders.
Here we are not looking at whether he was guilty or innocent or what were the details, we are just looking at the allegations per se.
He has tarnished all chiefs of Zimbabwe because of these particular allegations and there is no way any Member of Parliament can see him in a different light.
As long as the allegations came out, a docket has been compiled, it has been forwarded (to Harare), which alone shows that people are taking the case seriously.
It is the darkest day the institution of traditional leaders has faced in a long, long time,” Ndiweni said.
It means one single individual has now tarnished the whole institution.

Charumbira once defied a High Court order to issue a public apology after he claimed that all traditional leaders belonged to ZANU PF. The Constitution of Zimbabwe says traditional leaders must be apolitical.

Ndiweni Urges Chief Fortune Charumbira To Step Down

A Zimbabwean woman, Josephine Siziba, was recently elected councillor on a Labour Party ticket in Benton Ward, in Newcastle, United Kingdom (UK).
Siziba celebrated her victory with a cultural inauguration ceremony presided over by dethroned Ntabazinduna Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni this weekend.
Speaking in an interview with <a href="https://cite.org.zw/another-zim-woman-elected-ward-councillor-in-the-uk/">CITE</a>, Ndiweni said that the more Zimbabweans are elected to political office around the world, the more the diaspora community will influence Zimbabwe’s domestic politics. He said:
<blockquote>
The election of Josephine Siziba is important because it begins a road map that is beneficial to Zimbabwe, in a profound manner.
Such benefits are observed in the election of Rishi Sunak as the first British Prime Minister with an Asian background.
Indeed, the more Zimbabweans are elected to political office all over the world, the more they will influence and change Zimbabwe’s domestic politics.
The last time a black Councillor was elected here was some 48 years ago. Now it was a Zimbabwean woman that had been elected. That is history in the making.

The former chief claimed that there are now over 90 Zimbabweans serving as councillors in various countries, as well as a handful of Members of Parliament. He said:

This is how we raise the profile of Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwean diaspora achieving such positions, enables them to bring jobs to Zimbabweans, bring investment to Zimbabwe, bring resources to Zimbabwe, open markets for Zimbabwe, and encourage trade between Zimbabwe and other nations among other benefits.

Siziba had been active in fighting to reduce racism activities as a refugee. In 2016, she appeared in the news participating in a protest in Newcastle against the English Defence League (EDL), a far-right movement.

Zimbabwean Woman Elected Ward Councillor In Britain

Dethroned Ntabazinduna Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni said that President Emmerson Mnangagwa should not have been invited to the Africa Green Revolution Forum (AGRF) 2022.
Ndiweni said Mnangagwa’s government has reduced Zimbabwe to a basket case in the region, hence, he should not have been invited to attend the forum.
The AGRF event was attended by various heads of State who included host President Paul Kagame, Mohamed Bazoum (Niger) and Philip Isdor Mpangho (Tanzania).
Ndiweni, who is based in the United Kingdom, also attended the event alongside other dignitaries from the West, among them former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and retired Ivory Coast footballer Didier Drogba. Said Ndiweni:

We note with great regret to see our President Mnangagwa here. We saw him in close proximity today and we were saddened because the government of Zimbabwe has let the people down on many fronts.
When we talk to some organisations that deal with agriculture internationally, on a daily basis, they will have one answer that the current government of Zimbabwe has let the people and region down.
For a country that was known to be the breadbasket of southern Africa not to have a formidable footprint in this conference is telling the world that the country has gone off track.

Ndiweni "Sad" To See Mnangagwa In Rwanda

The late Chief Khayisa Ndiweni’s eldest son, Joram Thambo Ndiweni, on Saturday, told village heads in Ntabazinduna that he is now rebuilding his family’s homestead ahead of his return to Zimbabwe to take over the chieftainship.
The United Kingdom-based Ndiweni spoke to local leaders through a phone that was connected to a public address system at Ntabazinduna Council Hall.
Ndiweni is at loggerheads with one Masuka of Jabulani, over his alleged desecration of the grave of the late Agnes Masuku Ndiweni in February 2022.
Agnes, who was the widow of the late Chief Khayisa, died in 2020.
The Ndiweni chieftainship is under dispute after Ndiweni contested the coronation of his younger brother, Nhlanhlayamangwe Felix Ndiweni in 2019.
Felix, the second-born son of the late Chief Khayisa, was later deposed as chief under controversial circumstances.
Speaking during a meeting where village heads acknowledged him as their leader, Ndiweni said it was taboo for him to speak about his return. He said:

To speak about my return is something that is taboo. I am a child of a family like everyone else and I am working for my family like everyone else. I will come when the time is right.
Our people say that if you have never led your own home, how can you lead the people? 
My reply to that is that these are matters of tradition and I am going to resolve the issues bedevilling my family and I am close to doing so.
You see my sister’s son already rebuilding our home and it should show you that I’m close to coming back home.
I shall come back and be with my people and I will plant crops as they do. Our home was crumbling, the ceiling was falling and the people there were just staying there as it was.
I had to start from the bottom again. It is important for people to recognise that if the Ndiweni home perishes, so does the rest of Ntabazinduna.
This is because that was a home for everyone and when people were hungry, they knew they could always knock on our door.
I want it to be that way again because the Ndiweni home should not be a homestead where only a certain clique of people is welcome.

New Claimant To Ndiweni Chieftainship

Dethroned Ntabazinduna chief, Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, recently said that there are 5.5 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora who should be allowed to vote in the 2023 elections.
Ndiweni, who is the chairperson of MyRight2Vote pressure group, based in the United Kingdom, said both ZANU PF and ZAPU promised Zimbabweans the right to vote during the liberation struggle, therefore, diasporans should not be denied their fundamental right.
Ndiweni argued that holding an election without citizens based abroad would render the outcome illegitimate. Said Ndiweni:
<blockquote>
As a person who has been complaining about diaspora voting, this is a burning issue. It is a human right to be allowed to vote.
About 5.5 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora have been denied their right to vote.
To make things worse, this human right was promised during the war of liberation by ZANU PF, by ZAPU.
So, we have a deep historical basis for demanding this right because wherever we look, this right was given and it has been taken from the Zimbabwean populace in the diaspora.
The population in the diaspora is nearly 50% of the voting population in Zimbabwe. This is a formidable percentage.

Ndiweni’s comments came weeks after Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda (ZANU PF) said electoral laws should be amended to allow for diaspora vote.
Mudenda, however, was chided by his party for his remarks. ZANU PF is opposed to the diaspora vote and this is not surprising considering that the majority of Zimbabweans living abroad left the country due to the unfavourable economic environment.

"5.5 Million Zimbabweans Excluded From Electoral Processes"

Traditional leaders in Ntabazinduna, Umguza District District, Matabeleland North Province, have warned people who bought residential stands in the communal area in 2021 from land barons that they will be evicted.
The traditional leaders, who include headmen, village heads and dethroned Chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, made the resolution after launching an investigation into illegal land deals in Ntabazinduna.
They started the investigations into the illegal sale and allocation of land in Ntabazinduna communal lands in 2019.
In a statement, Ndiweni, who reportedly still has influence in Ntabazinduna said the investigation by traditional leaders which commenced in 2019 is still continuing. He added:
<blockquote>
All stands issued from November 2019 to the end of 2020 are under investigation and strong action will be taken.
Questionable structures will be demolished through the court system.
Ntabazinduna is communal land, which means that the land belongs to the whole community of Ntabazinduna.
As a result, no one has a title deed for any bit of land in Ntabazinduna. The land is owned by the people of Ntabazinduna.
This means no one can buy a virgin piece of Land in Ntabazinduna.
The only way one could purchase a stand in Ntabazinduna is if there are dwellings on that piece of land, some form of development, for want of a better word.
This would mean that the stand being sold would be old. Not new virgin land.

No To Sale Of Virgin Land In Ntabazinduna - Chief Ndiweni

Land barons are reportedly illegally selling residential stands to desperate land seekers in Ntabazinduna in Matabeleland North Province.
According to a report by CITE, the illegal parcelling out of land is rampant in Ward 6 which covers Nhlambabaloyi, Madlelenyoni, Mputshini and Mbelesiniwhere. The area is also home to illegal gold mining activities.
The land barons are allegedly working in cahoots with traditional leaders such as village heads.
They use international phone numbers in various WhatsApp groups targeting Zimbabweans based outside the country.
The stands are being sold for anything upwards of US$5 000, with potential buyers asked to US$350 to the village head and a further US$20 in registration fees.
Villagers who spoke to CITE said they were losing grazing land for their livestock through the illegal conversion of pastures into residential stands.
In September 2021, villagers wrote a letter to the District Administrator (DA) expressing their dissatisfaction over the matter. They said:

We the residents of Ntabazinduna under Umguza district would like to voice our dissatisfaction and concerns about the way our land is being sold by some village heads. 
We are talking about communal land with no title deed or any development. This has been going on for the past few years and we as a community have not been consulted on the issues.
Your intervention in the matter will be greatly appreciated… We acknowledge that the village leaders report to your office and as such you have the power to intervene and stop this.

A Bulawayo based lawyer Tanaka Muganyi said it is illegal for traditional leaders, who are custodians of the communal land, to sell such land.
Meanwhile, Ward 6 village head, Bekithemba Ncube dismissed the alleged illegal selling of communal land in Ntabazinduna, saying those making the claims were being motivated by tribalism. He said:
<blockquote>
Kufana lokukhuluma ngezinja ezikhonkotha zibaleka ezingafuni kukhonkotha inyamazana ziyibamba, take my message as it is, because we are the ones on the ground, we know everything that is happening, why is it that those who are doing illegal selling of stands are not being arrested and now they are barking whilst they are away.
The police are always here, they were given land, even the army bosses were given land. Those people who are complaining are basing it on why people from other areas are being given stands.

Minister of State and Provincial Affairs for Matabeleland North, Richard Moyo said he was aware of the illegal land deals in Ntabazinduna but blamed dethroned Ntabazinduna chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Felix Ndiweni for the vice. Said Moyo:

Chief Ndiweni is the one responsible for these illegal dealings, he left that kind of situation, so I think the Ministry of Land should stop it because I heard that he left his headmen in charge of giving people stands in grazing areas and people’s farms.
We are going to send the Ministry of Lands and the police to go and stop the illegal selling of stands because it is a crime since it’s happening within people’s farms and grazing areas.

Land Barons Descend On Ntabazinduna, Minister Blames Chief Ndiweni

Dethroned Ntabazinduna Chief, Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni (58), said that a warrant for his arrest issued by a court in Bulawayo is “politically motivated.”
Sergeant Canisious Chesango, the officer in charge of Mbembesi Police Station had requested the warrant, accusing Ndiweni of breaching his bail conditions since his release from jail by a High Court judge in August 2019.
Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube signed the arrest warrant on Thursday last week.
However, Ndiweni said he obtained permission from the police to travel to the United Kingdom for eye treatment, waiving a requirement to report once every Friday.
It was the timing of the arrest warrant that raised eyebrows as it came after Ndiweni made a visit to 10 Downing Street in London on 2 December.
The traditional leader handed over a petition to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson asking him to support a campaign by Zimbabweans living abroad to be allowed to vote in elections in 2023.
In a statement on Monday, Chief Ndiweni said the warrant is politically motivated as authorities knew that he was in the United Kingdom. He said:
<blockquote>
So after nearly two years of me being in the United Kingdom for treatment, some government political spin doctor suddenly realised that I’m not in Zimbabwe?
The problem for this political spin doctor is that the whole government knew that I was not in Zimbabwe, the police knew and have been working with me the entire time, having allowed me to go for treatment in the United Kingdom in the first place.
By the reaction of the government and their spin doctors, it is evident that they were not pleased that the Zimbabwe Diaspora Vote campaign to give voting rights to 5.5 million plus Zimbabwean citizens in the diaspora has reached this level.
</blockquote>
He said he has a chronic eye condition for which he has received treatment at a United Kingdom hospital for the last 20 years.
Chief Ndiweni also said on the day he was convicted and sent to Khami Prison, he had undergone an eye operation. He added:
<blockquote>
I explained my condition to my legal team. I showed them the medical referral from the Bulawayo doctor to the hospital in the United Kingdom.
They said that on such medical evidence, I was entitled to medical treatment, even with the bail conditions that were there.
Because the situation was evident and historical, spanning over 20 years, they advised that I should go immediately for the treatment.
When everything was in place for me to go to travel, I signed at the police station and also told them that I was going to the UK for treatment.
The police also had sight of my medical referral and medical papers to that end.
At the police station, there was no electricity or a photocopying machine to copy these documents. The police said they would engage my lawyers.
So authority was given by the police. Had additional permission been required, I would not have gone to the UK for treatment until such authority was given.

He said he will return to Zimbabwe once he is discharged from his treatment.

Arrest Warrant Politically Motivated, Says Chief Ndiweni

A Bulawayo magistrate has issued a warrant for the arrest of dethroned Ntabazinduna chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni for allegedly breaching his bail conditions.
This comes just days after Ndiweni stood outside 10 Downing Street in London (the official residence and executive office of the UK Prime Minister) to petition the British government to push President Emmerson Mnangagwa to grant the right to vote for Zimbabweans in the diaspora.
Bulawayo magistrate Maxwell Ncube signed the arrest warrant on Thursday at the request of Canisious Chesango, the officer in charge of Mbembesi Police Station.
Chesango told the court that Ndiweni (58), was released on bail by the High Court in August pending an appeal against a two-year prison sentence for malicious damage to property.
As part of the bail conditions, he was ordered to report once every week at Ntabazinduna Police Station and also to reside at his Ntabazinduna home.
In his application for a warrant, Chesango said Ndiweni had defaulted.
Ndiweni, a Government critic even before he was dethroned, was jailed for allegedly destroying property worth US$30.
He allegedly led 23 villagers to destroy a kraal and hedge of a family he had banished from his area.
His lawyer Welshman Ncube secured his release on bail pending appeal against the sentence.

Warrant Of Arrest Issued For Chief Ndiweni

Chief Ashel Wasi Ndiweni of Mangwe district in Matabeleland South Province, has died aged 90.
The young brother and family spokesperson, Leo Ndiweni, confirmed the death to CITE. He said:

The Chief died at his home at Macingwane in Plumtree, Thursday, at around 11 AM. He was 90 years old and he was of ill-health of late.

Chief Ndiweni Of Mangwe District Has Died

Traditional leader Chief Felix Nhanhlayamangwe Ndiweni has revealed his desire to have sacred Ntabazinduna Mountain be declared a World Heritage site, CITE.org reports.
Chief Ndiweni was speaking from his United Kingdom base when he said efforts were being made to make the mountain, which he said was of cultural significance to the Ndebele nation a World Heritage site.
Said Chief Ndiweni:
<blockquote>We have to ask this government who they went to war for and who they fought for because wherever you look in Zimbabwe, they are stocking up tribal tensions and bringing up tribalism. Take a look at Chiredzi, among the Shangani nation, their sacred ancestral land is about to be forcefully taken over by this government.
We have had talks about it when we met with the VP (then VP Kembo Mohadi) so I am 100 percent sure he and the president are also well versed on Ndebele history, so he too knows. Yet we are forced to see this utter nonsense.
As the chief of that area I have to speak up I cannot keep quiet when such things are happening. Otherwise, other traditional leaders will ask Chief Ndiweni what is happening to our mountain. I must be able to give a reply.</blockquote>
Chief Ndiweni said if their plans, which he said have been in motion for some time, are approved the mountain will be cordoned off and people who have settled near the mountain will have to be moved and Umguza Rural District Council will have to compensate those who will be affected by the move:
<blockquote>It has been for some time now that we have been looking at how we can encapsulate it into the World Heritage Site. There are various criteria to that and I think we meet most of those. If we don’t meet some of those criteria, then we can always add an attachment to Matopos, Khami Ruins or other localities. Indeed we can work closely with the city of Bulawayo, which has many sites that qualify to be classed as World Heritage Sites.
So if any of those people need to be recompensed in any way they should look to Umguza RDC who did something which they knew would never work in the fullness of time. We are not being harsh to those people but simply pointing them in the right direction that in our quest to protect Ntabazinduna mountain, people will have to be evacuated to give us a one-kilometre radius around it.</blockquote>
He also took the time to address the wrangle between Brian Davies and Floyd Ambrose over the ownership of Chiefs Lodge situated on top of the mountain that saw MRP members being arrested last week over a protest over the lodge and said:
<blockquote>If Ambrose was acting alone, he should be arrested for defying the law. Failure to that, we by ourselves will be launching criminal prosecution against him. Among those charges, we will be citing him for three counts of contempt of high court orders. On those three occasions, he willfully ignored determinations produced by the High Court of Zimbabwe.
We will be charging him with breaking and entering into the said properties of Ntabazinduna, four counts of malicious damage of those properties on the mountain.
We are charging him with verbal and physical abuse of people, assault, battery and being in possession of a weapon. We will also be charging him for discharging the weapon in a public place and attempted murder because it is what happened</blockquote>

Chief Ndiweni Wants Ntabazinduna Mountain Declared A World Heritage Site

Ousted Ntabazinduna Chief Felix Nhlanhlayemangwe Ndiweni has warned traditional leaders that they will be used by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government to “white-wash” the Gukurahundi genocide.
Ndiweni, who is currently living in the United Kingdom, wrote a 17-page petition directed to Attorney-General Prince Machaya in which he argued that chiefs have no jurisdiction over matters such as the Gukurahundi.
Ndiweni argued that traditional leaders can only deal with civil matters. He wrote:
<blockquote>Where have the chiefs obtained this power to adjudicate on the genocide? Some wrongly argue that the chiefs are coming into the genocide matter because of the exhumation of bodies and reburial, that requires a traditional, custom and practice component.
As far as the administration is concerned, that would be the end of the Ndebele genocide.
Clearly, the chiefs have been hoodwinked into the process and are being used as a shield by the administration, so that they may whitewash the Ndebele genocide.</blockquote>
Ndiweni made the remarks after Mnangagwa recently tasked traditional leaders to preside over exhumation and reburial of the victims of the brutal genocide.
Meanwhile, Machaya said he had not yet seen Ndiweni’s petition and in any case, it would be wrong for such a petition to be directed to the Attorney General’s office.

Chiefs Tricked Into Whitewashing Gukurahundi, Says Ndiweni

Dethroned <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chief_Ndiweni" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Felix Ndiweni</a> has proposed that thieves who steal roadside fencing should be given stiffer penalties considering that they expose the public to severe danger.
The traditional leader speaks when the number of road accidents caused by livestock have been on the rise in the country especially in the countryside or near farms. Ndiweni said:
<blockquote>The penalty for thieves and vandals stealing roadside fencing should be stiffened and even equated to culpable homicide! The number of road fatalities caused by livestock is astounding! Small scale farmers livestock is also put at risk because of greed!</blockquote>
Some added that everyone who steals fence from farms should also be punished since their actions also put lives at risk.
Meanwhile, the majority of road accidents in the country are attributed to human error and or the sorry state of roads.

Chief Ndiweni Proposes Stiffer Penalty For Thieves

Top Bulawayo lawyer Dumisani Dube has been arrested by Police Special Anticorruption Unit and was expected to appear in court this Saturday.
Dube was arrested on allegations of defeating the course of justice in obtaining a court order in a matter which is still pending in court to the advantage of his client.
He was taken into police custody at Southampton Police Station in Bulawayo. He was attending to a client who was arrested on Friday and on arrival at the police station, he was told he is an accomplice.
Dube has been known to stand for human rights cases defending a lot of human rights defenders.
Last year Dube represented ousted Ntabazinduna Chief Nhlanhlayemangwe Felix Ndiweni in a case where the traditional leader and 22 others were accused of malicious damage to property.
During Ndiweni’s trial, Dube demanded that Zanu PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu answer some questions after the former Home Affairs minister was sucked into the case.
Ndiweni had alleged Mpofu incriminated him after he took the former minister to Mbembesi Police Station for stealing the traditional leader’s late father’s 200 cattle, with his arrest meant to fix him for that.

Deposed outspoken Ntabazinduna traditional leader Chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni has slammed the government for its “failure” to prepare adequately to deal with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus.
Chief Ndiweni asserted that the government had over a month-and-a-half preparation time but squandered the window of opportunity. He said:
<blockquote>Every government engages in what is called civil contingencies, these are things that any government should do to plan for any eventuality say in case of contagion, pandemic, an accident, train overturns or spillage of chemicals.
Now when you are to deal with civil contingencies you are planning and putting things together. For us Zimbabweans, it’s clear we had over a month-and-a-half preparation time, but on the ground, we are seeing nothing.
We are seeing our government trying to put last-minute plans.</blockquote>
Chief Ndiweni lamented the government’s lethargy and nonchalance, saying it would only be by the grace of God that Zimbabweans will survive.
The controversial ousted chief condemned the government for firing doctors and nurses several months ago, who are now on the frontline in fighting the deadly virus.

Chief Ndiweni Currently In The UK For An Emergency Eye Operation

The MDC Matabeleland North and Bulawayo provincial structures who have hitherto been at daggers drawn have decided to smoke the peace pipe – for now at least – in support of dethroned <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ntabazinduna" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ntabazinduna</a> traditional leader, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chief_Ndiweni" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni</a>.
The two camps both confirmed to The Standard in separate interviews last week that they will jointly organise a solidarity rally in support of Chief Ndiweni. Bulawayo spokesperson Swithern Chiroodza said:
<blockquote>We had a meeting with Matabeleland North and other individuals from Matabeleland South province where we agreed to try and converge to have a solidarity rally for Ndiweni.
The date of the solidarity rally is not yet set, but we are very sure that the party will be offering solidarity to him. Even during the liberation struggle, people supported progressive chiefs and it is incumbent upon the MDC to support the progressive ideas of Chief Ndiweni.
When it comes to violence, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gukurahundi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Gukurahundi</a> and the general civil strife that Zimbabweans face, Ndiweni is found condemning those and it’s so much unlike chiefs from Mashonaland who participate in the murder of fellow countrymen by taking orders from the ruling party to starve villagers who do not toe the Zanu PF political line.
And so if a chief condemns such kind of Stalinism, and evil deeds, that chief, in this case, Chief Ndiweni, truly deserves our support.</blockquote>
Bulawayo Province is alleged to be behind party chairperson Thabita Khumalo while Mat’ North backs rebel-cum-vice president Welshman Ncube.

MDC To Hold Rally In Solidarity With Dethroned Ntabazinduna Chief

The government has defended the dethronement of former <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ntabazinduna" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ntabazinduna</a> Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni saying the move was lawful.
Ndiweni, through his lawyers Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers, last December challenged his removal from the chieftainship by President Emmerson Mnangagwa arguing that proper procedures were not followed.
However, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works Zvinechimwe Ruvinga Churu filed a notice of opposition challenging Ndiweni’s application. In his opposing affidavit, Churu said:
<blockquote>The applicant (Mr Ndiweni) was lawfully removed from the office as <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chief_Ndiweni" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chief Ndiweni</a>. Section 68 of the constitution was properly followed, the applicant was given an opportunity to be heard and to make representations during the investigations.</blockquote>

Dethroned <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ntabazinduna" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ntabazinduna</a> chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni has called for the formation of an interim transitional government (ITG) of technocrats to work on the much-needed political and economic reforms.
Ndiweni dismissed the prospect of forming a <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Government_of_National_Unity" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">government of national unity (GNU)</a>, saying it is not capable of resuscitating Zimbabwe’s democracy. He said:
<blockquote>An ITG is a hybrid government that has a fixed short term and has a specific job description. In our case, its remit is to resuscitate democracy in our country.
The ITG will immediately at the beginning of its term of office, begin negotiations with the Republic of South Africa and Sadc as a whole to formulary adopt the Rand as our currency for the short to medium term.</blockquote>
He further suggested that once formulated, the ITG will need to start negotiations with South Africa and SADC as a whole to adopt the Rand as our currency.
Ndiweni’s remarks come as there are growing calls for dialogue between the ruling ZANU PF party and the opposition MDC to address the country’s perennial challenges.

Ndiweni was on November 30, stripped of his traditional powers following a recommendation by Cabinet and the 
Matabeleland North Provincial Assembly of Chiefs.
Through his lawyer Dumisani Dube of Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers, Ndiweni on Thursday filed an application at the Bulawayo High Court.
The outspoken Ndiweni has prayed the High Court to nullify his removal and declare it unlawful.
He also wants the Court to direct Latiso Dlamini (acting provincial development coordinator for Matabeleland North) and Tapiwa Zvivovoyi ( Umguza district development coordinator) to stop dispossessing him of his Government-issued vehicle and the chief’s regalia among other State-owned assets in his possession.
Prior to his removal, Ndiweni had clashed with government officials on several occasions over Gukurahundi, sanctions and land claims around the Ntabazinduna mountains.

This was revealed by Umguza district development co-ordinator (DDC) Tapiwa Zivovoyi in an interview with NewsDay on Monday. He confirmed meeting Chief Ndiweni’s lawyer, Dumisani Dube on Monday. He said:
<blockquote>Yes, we met him. In fact, how can we collect the property if he (Ndiweni) is not around? He is the only person who must give us, we will wait for him.</blockquote>
On Saturday, a group of armed anti-riot police descended on the chief’s homestead intending to confiscate a vehicle and other paraphernalia belonging to the government.

Armed anti-riot police Saturday on evening raided the homestead of the dethroned outspoken traditional leader, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chief_Ndiweni" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Chief Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni</a> in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Ntabazinduna" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Ntabazinduna</a>.
The Chief’s lawyer, Dumisani Dube from Mathonsi, Ncube Law Chambers confirmed the development to NewZimbabwe.com. He said:
<blockquote>I can confirm that anti-riot police accompanied by Umguza district coordinator visited Ndiweni’s home in Ntabazinduna on Saturday night.
They wanted to confiscate his vehicle and regalia but unfortunately, the Chief is outside the country.
Again, as far as Ndiweni is concerned, he is still the chief because he has not received any official communication regarding his purported dismissal.</blockquote>
Chief Ndiweni was ousted by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last week. Mnangagwa directed that Ndiweni’s government allocated car and all the all State assets are seized immediately.
The chief has refused to be cowed by the government and has been vocal against the 1980s <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Gukurahundi" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Gukurahundi</a> genocide. He also attended the opposition MDC congress in May this year and called for additional targeted sanctions against the country’s political elite.

Popular vocal traditional leader, Felix Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni has been stripped of his chieftainship with effect from 30 November 2019 ZBC News reports. According to the publication, this was after his family successfully proved that he is not the rightful heir to the throne.
According to ZBC:
<blockquote>The ministry has also instructed the Umguza district development council to recover the government allocated vehicle, all chief’s regalia and any other state assets in his custody with the assistance of the ZRP, and liaise with the Ndiweni clan to select a candidate for appointment as substantive Chief Ndiweni.</blockquote>
<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Chief_Ndiweni">Chief Ndiweni</a> was in August jailed an effective 18 months for destroying one of his people s’ property together with his 22 subjects.

Chief Ndiweni Loses Chieftainship

The family of suspended Ntabazinduna traditional leader, Chief Nhlanhlayamangwe Ndiweni, has come to the defence of the underfire chief saying he was selected by his own people as per tradition.
The outspoken traditional leader was last week<a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2019/11/17/chief-ndiwenis-removal-his-lawyer-speaks/"> suspended as Ntabazinduna chief at a Matabeleland North traditional leaders’ provincial assembly</a> held in Bulawayo with the meeting suggesting that his selection violated tradition since his elder brother was still alive.
Head of the Xhosa Royal Council in Zimbabwe, Prince MacLeod Tshawe Nonxoloba, however, backed Ndiweni saying that he was chosen by the people and that the government should not interfere. He said:
<blockquote>Chief Ndiweni is a chief because he was chosen by the people of Ndiweni and to us in the Xhosa community ithole lenkuzi likhethwa ngabazali balo lapha ekhaya (the bull is chosen from the calves by their owners) not an outsider. If the chief has been chosen by other people who are not in the family, that is unacceptable in our community.</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the president of Zimbabwe is empowered by Constitution to appoint, remove and suspend chiefs on the recommendation of the provincial assembly of chiefs through the National Council of Chiefs and the minister of local government and in accordance with the traditional practices and traditions of the communities concerned.
Ndiweni has been very critical of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.
