New details have emerged in the case of a<a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/update-9-year-old-pregnant-girl-doesnt-know-shes-pregnant-father-arrested/"> pregnant nine-year-old girl</a> from Masekesa village in Tsholotsho under Chief Gampu amid indications that the family lived with a young male relative.
Chief Gampu has called for the interrogation of the young man emphasising that he was not accusing the man. 
The traditional leader said the young man left a few months ago allegedly to seek employment in Dogwe village, one of the villages in the district. <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/new-details-emerge-on-the-pregnant-tsholotsho-girl-mystery/">The Chronicle</a> quotes Chief Gampu as saying:
<blockquote>
I am not at all saying the young man is responsible for what happened, neither am I saying the father did not but it is known that the family was living with a young relative who I believe is related to the girl’s mother and maybe the police may actually want to interview him as well, just like they did to the father.
</blockquote>
The traditional leader said society was expected to protect young, innocent children instead of exposing them to such heinous acts.
He said he was going to spearhead awareness campaigns in his area of jurisdiction and encouraged other traditional leaders to also embark on such programmes so as to encourage and inform people about concerns related to child abuse while encouraging them to speak out against such vices.
The young girl who was just eight years old when she fell pregnant, with suspicions that she was raped, is set to give birth through a cesarean delivery on November 17 at United Bulawayo Hospitals.
The incident led to the <a href="https://zero.pindula.co.zw/update-9-year-old-pregnant-girl-doesnt-know-shes-pregnant-father-arrested/">arrest of the girl’s biological father</a> (29) who allegedly warned his daughter that “goblins will visit her at night and insert something in her private parts.”

New Details Emerge on 9-year-old Pregnant Zimbabwean Girl

Chief Gampu Sithole of Tsholotsho has condemned the rape of the nine-year-old girl from his area who became pregnant as a result of the sexual abuse saying it was uncultured and unacceptable.
According to officials, the girl, who is eight months pregnant, is not aware of the pregnancy as she believes she has a “stomach ailment.”
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Chief Gampu urged society to protect young children from sexual predators. He said:
<blockquote>
I’m here to address the situation that occurred in my community involving the nine-year-old girl who just so happened to become pregnant.
Being the leaders that we are, we strongly condemn this heinous conduct. Soon after learning the tragic news, I was able to visit the family and meet the child’s grandmother.
I was told the girl had gone through puberty earlier than planned. The child was supposed to receive medical attention because that alone should have been a concern handled by a doctor. We want this innocent minor to receive the justice she deserves.
</blockquote>
Chief Gampu said he will undertake awareness campaigns in his community about issues related to child abuse. He also spoke against child marriages. He added:
<blockquote>
We highly condemn this particular issue, I personally refuse to accept it as a normal crime and justifiable.
I doubt God can accept this, the government definitely does not, the community should not normalise or accept it as well.
Although we do not yet know who the perpetrator may be, we leave that decision to the legal system in the hope that a just penalty will be meted out to the offender.

Chief Gampu Speaks On Nine-year-old Pregnant Girl From His Area

Five chiefs walked out of a meeting with the Tsholotsho Rural District Council (RDC) councillors on Thursday after one of the councillors accused them of lying.
Ward Eight councillor, Christopher Sibanda, claimed that the traditional leaders lied to the Government about the procedures that were followed resulting in the reduction of elephant trophy fees from US$40 000 to US$10 000.
Sibanda also alleged that the chiefs were trying to impose their preferred persons as councillors.
The councillor’s accusations came after the chiefs had written a letter to the Minister of Local Government and Public Works July Moyo alleging that some councillors were corrupt and had acquired unexplained wealth soon after elephant trophy sales.
Cllr Sibanda, representing councillors, first read the letter that the chiefs wrote and then accused chiefs of misrepresenting facts to the Government.
Chief Gampu was the first to storm out of the meeting, and Chief Siphoso, Chief Mathuphula, Chief Tategulu and Chief Magama eventually left after realising that their colleague was not coming back.
Cllr Siwela confirmed the incident and said that he had apologised on behalf of the councillor whom he chose not to name. He said:

Indeed, we had a meeting with the chiefs and committees for natural resources and the Campfire project.
I think at the start of the meeting there was a comment from one councillor who said they have been doing a lot for the chiefs from Campfire funds so they must not claim that nothing was being done for them.
He then went on to say the chiefs must not criticise councillors as if they have their own people that they want to be councillors. I think that was an unfortunate statement.
I apologised on his behalf but it seems that statement did not go down well with Chief Gampu who walked out of the meeting.
Chief Tategulu said the meeting must stick to the agenda instead of dwelling on unrelated issues.
However, Chief Mathuphula said before the meeting could continue, the councillor must first withdraw his statement which was done but Chief Siphoso said while the withdrawal had been done the meeting could no longer continue in the absence of Chief Gampu.

Tsholotsho District Development Coordinator (DDC), Aaron Gono, said the chiefs walked out of the meeting because they felt they were being attacked, belittled and disrespected by their subjects. Said Gono:

What happened was really so unfortunate, the meeting was meant for the two parties to smoke the peace pipe but the chiefs felt attacked by utterances from the Ward Eight councillor, in particular, Chief Gampu because he was the one who signed the letter on behalf of the other chiefs.
This meeting also came following recommendations by the Local Government and Public Works Deputy Minister Marian Chombo but unfortunately, an unexpected situation happened.

Angry Chiefs Storm Out Of RDC Meeting

A 29-year-old man from Tsholotsho took his own life after his mother revealed to him that the man he knew as his dad was not his biological father.
The incident happened in Mafa Line in Tsholotsho in the Chief Gampu last week on Monday shortly after 5 pm.
Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident and urged people to deliver such news through trusted elders, traditional leaders or professional counsellors.
B-Metro reported a source as saying Precious Ndebele (48) decided to divulge the long-standing secret that was gnawing her conscience on Monday.
She reportedly called her son, Nkosilathi, and revealed to him that Kenneth Ndebele was not his biological father. Said the source:
<blockquote>
She sobbed before telling him that Kenneth Ndebele was not his biological father.
She told him that the issue had been tormenting her for quite a long time.
</blockquote>
Nkosilathi failed to stomach the revelations and became depressed and took drugs to lessen the pain.
It is further claimed that Nkosilathi confided in his girlfriend, Sakhile Ncube (20) that he wanted to commit suicide because life was not worth living.
After two days Nkosilathi called his lover over the phone and told her that he had decided to commit suicide.
Sakhile tried to counsel him over the phone but he told her that he had made up his mind and there was no going back on his decision.
Sakhile reportedly rushed to Nkosilathi’s homestead and found the door of his bedroom hut locked.
She forcefully opened the door and found him hanging from the roof trusses.
The matter was reported at the Tshefunye police base in Tsholotsho and police officers attended the scene.
A magistrate waived a post-mortem as no foul play was suspected.

Man (29) Commits Suicide After Mum Reveals His Paternity

Chiefs in Matabeleland province are finding it difficult to deal with witchcraft cases brought before their courts. The Constitution of Zimbabwe does not acknowledge the existence of witchcraft while local culture has always acknowledged the existence of the dark arts.
Chief Gampu of Tsholotsho expressed dismay over these contradictions. In an interview with Southern Eye, the traditional leader had this to say
<blockquote>There is a problem that we as traditional leaders face in dealing with witchcraft disputes. This is because of the Witchcraft Suppression Act, a colonial law which is still in force today. In our culture as Africans, everyone knows that there is witchcraft. But when you label someone as such, you end up being arrested and you cannot get away with such claims.
But we, as chiefs, deal with these things all the time and if someone is said to be a witch, we can allow or direct the parties concerned to go to traditional healers, and these days there are those who are called tsikamutandas (witch hunters), for confirmation. The law does not allow such and I also do not support witch hunters.</blockquote>
Chief Gampu appealed to the government to help traditional leaders in such cases and he said that the government can no longer ignore the existence of witchcraft.

Chiefs In A Dilemma Over Settling Witchcraft Cases, Appeal For The Amendment Of Witchcraft Law

Chief Gampu’s 25-year-old son, Mr Onasisi Sithole, lied his father’s vehicle had been stolen after he allegedly crashed it during a joyride.
The unregistered Government official double cab Isuzu worth $50 000 had been reported stolen on Wednesday. Sithole had informed his father that his Isuzu KB Silver Grey Double Cab had been stolen at Nketa 6 Garage in Bulawayo. Chief Gampu had left Sithole in a fuel queue at about 8PM. After refuelling the car at about 11PM, Sithole claimed the car was stolen after he had left the engine running, with keys in the ignition as he entered a shop to buy something to eat.
Yesterday, Chief Gampu’s family lawyer Abednigo Bhebhe confirmed to The Chronicle that the car had been recovered. He also confirmed Sithole had lied that the car had been stolen. Bhebhe said the car was found near Unity Village along Joshua Mqabuko Street between 5th and 6th Avenue. He said the family was still in talks on how the case would be treated. Said Bhebhe:
<blockquote>We have talked to the police who have told us that the Chief Gampu’s car has been recovered. In fact the young man (his son) had panicked after he was involved in an accident and claimed that the car had been stolen. His father had left him in a fuel queue and considering that he refuelled late at night, he decided to drive to town so that he could buy something to eat. He was involved in an accident in the city centre before he could buy the meal. In a state of panic not knowing how to deal with the situation, he made up that story that the car had been stolen.</blockquote>

Son Lied Chief's US$50 000 Vehicle Was Stolen After Crashing It

Chief Gampu’s unregistered official vehicle was stolen at a fuel service station in Bulawayo’s Nketa 6 suburb on Wednesday night.
When contacted by The Chronicle, Chief Gampu confirmed the theft. The traditional leader’s jurisdiction covers parts of Tsholotsho in Matabeleland North and extends to Matabeleland South. The vehicle, an Isuzu KB Silver Grey Double Cab worth $50 000 was with Chief Gampu’s son when it was stolen. Chief Gampu received his car this year from Government .
Chief Gampu’s 25-year old son is alleged to have left the car engine running, with keys in the ignition as he entered a shop soon after refuelling the car at around 11PM. Said Chief Gampu:
<blockquote>I received information at about 5PM that there was fuel at Nketa 6 Garage so I decided to go and refuel as I had fuel coupons I brought from the just ended Chief’s Conference held in Kadoma. I took my two sons aged 25 and nine years with me. He said there was no electricity at the time in Gwabalanda suburb where he lives so he took along a gas cylinder so that he could refill it in Nkulumane suburb. We bought the gas before proceeding to the fuel station. I was shocked, it didn’t make sense to me because I had left the car at the service station waiting to refuel. I then phoned my son trying to understand what really happened. He told me that he was on his way back home aboard a pirate taxi as the car had been stolen. He told me that after refuelling the car he parked at the service station and left the engine running as he went into a shop to buy something to eat. He said when he returned a few minutes later he found the car gone.</blockquote>
