At least 42 British Airways (BA) flights were cancelled due to technical issues leaving thousands of travellers stranded at London Heathrow.
The cancellations resulted from the “knock-on effect of a technical issue” which caused staff to be placed in the wrong location, according to BBC.
Over 16,000 passengers were affected by the cancellations, which mainly impacted flights departing from or arriving at Heathrow. Some passengers have also been unable to check-in online.

On Thursday, BA apologised for cancelling dozens of flights at Heathrow. BA said in a statement on Friday:

While the vast majority of our flights continue to operate today, we have cancelled some of our short-haul flights from Heathrow due to the knock-on effect of a technical issue that we experienced yesterday.
</blockquote>
The cancellations occurred on the busiest day for UK air travel since 2019, with more than 3,000 flights planned. This is partly due to families travelling for the half-term break. Affected passengers were the option to rebook an alternative flight or request a refund.
BA has faced IT problems in the past, including a major breakdown in 2017 that left 75,000 passengers stranded over a holiday weekend. The recent incident has led to criticism from customers and pledges from the carrier to improve its services in the future.
The cancellations occurred amidst a three-day strike by security guards at Heathrow Airport over pay, though the airport has stated that its operations will not be affected.

NetOne, the second-largest telecommunications company in Zimbabwe hiked Data, Voice and SMS bundle tariffs on the 25th of February 2022 by margins that shocked many.
Many wrote to the state-owned mobile network operator to check if there were no errors on NetOne’s platform. In response, NetOne would say:

British Airways charges US$259 for a flight from Harare to Johannesburg.

NetOne Data Bundles Expensive Than Flight To South Africa - Responses Tariff Hikes

The man who glued himself to the top of a British Airways aircraft two years ago has been jailed for one year. 
The court at Southwark Crown Court noted that his actions disrupted more than 300 passengers and cost British Airways in the region of £40 000.
The former Paralympian James Brown caused widespread disruption in October 2019 when he climbed onto the top of a British Airways aircraft. 
Brown, who is visually impaired, had a ticket for the flight to Amsterdam but surprised the crew by making his way onto the top of the Embraer aircraft as passengers were boarding.
The court heard that Brown wedged his phone in the door so that it wouldn’t close, and proceeded to use a bottle of superglue he had secreted in his luggage to glue his right hand to the aircraft. 
The former Team GB cyclist and athlete remained on the top of the aircraft for more than an hour before he was able to be removed.
Hearing his case, a trial at which he self-represented, Judge Gregory Perrins said:

The right to protest does not entitle you to cause major widespread disruption to a major airport… simply because you think it is the right thing to do. This is a case in which you acted together with at least 10 other activists to plan and execute a major act of disruption.
You intended to cause the maximum amount of disruption possible at the airport, if not shut it down completely.
You are not entitled to more lenient treatment simply because you were protesting about environmental matters as opposed to some other cause. 
Everyone in this country has the right to protest and there are many ways in which that can be done without breaking the law.
</blockquote>
On the day of Brown’s glue-related incident, an Aer Lingus aircraft was delayed for almost two hours as an activist refused to take his seat preferring instead to pace the aisle giving a lecture on climate change.
Outside the London City Airport that day, at around the same time, hundreds of protestors gathered with banners, singing and chanting. 
Others blocked passengers from getting into the terminal, while the roads outside the airport were also blocked.

The British Airways network has announced the suspension of the short-haul London Gatwick operation. 
This comes after the airline, for the past year and a half, suspended most routes to and from the airport or operating from Heathrow. 
British Airways says it has been losing money on European flights from London Gatwick for years. To remain competitive in the coming years, the airline had hoped to shake up its operations from the airport drastically. 
Several weeks ago, <a href="https://simpleflying.com/british-airways-gatwick-short-haul/">the airline issued a proposal to launch a low-cost subsidiary from London Gatwick</a>.
BALPA, the pilots union, isn’t on board with the proposals. Their Acting General Secretary, Martin Chalk, commented:

Despite our best efforts, BALPA was unable to reach an agreement with British Airways on revised Terms and Conditions for London Gatwick (LGW) Short-haul, that was acceptable to our members.

As a result of BALPA’s decision not to support the proposal, British Airways has decided to indefinitely suspend all short-haul flying from London Gatwick. 
An airline spokesperson told Simple Flying that they were disappointed with BALPA’s decision, adding:

After many years of losing money on European flights from the airport, we were clear that coming out of the pandemic, we needed a plan to make Gatwick profitable and competitive. With regret, we will now suspend our short-haul operations at Gatwick.

Moving forward, the airline has said it will pursue alternative uses for its London Gatwick slots. Head for Points believes that British Airways has several options when it comes to its slots. 
The airline could redistribute them to other IAG airlines such as Vueling or LEVEL or sell the slots.
British Airways isn’t the first to throw the towel in at London Gatwick Airport since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Early on last year, the airline’s rival Virgin Atlantic pulled its long-haul operations out of the airport.

British Airways Suspends Short-Haul London Gatwick Operation

The British Airways operated by Comair in South Africa has resumed flights between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has said.
ZTA head of corporate affairs Mr Godfrey Koti told The Sunday News that they were excited over the resumption of British Airways flights a development which he said showed confidence in Zimbabwe as a tourism destination. Mr Koti said:
<blockquote>_We are obviously elated with this news. We’re also quite happy with the growth that has come in leaps and bounds in terms of domestic tourism during the Covid-19 pandemic induced International travel break. We have seen a healthy growth within our borders owing to a campaign coined ZimBho which we have been aggressively pursuing in an attempt to increase local travel. The resumption of Comair is an attestation of the confidence that the market has in destination Zimbabwe._
_We have also taken it upon ourselves as a destination to step up the enforcement of compliance to the World Health Organisation approved Covid-19 prevention protocols and guidelines._</blockquote>
In an earlier statement, Comair Limited said they were resuming full-service airline and opening bookings for flights between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls for travel in May. Read the statement:
<blockquote>_British Airways (operated by Comair), South Africa’s leading premium full-service airline, has announced the reopening of bookings for flights between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls for travel starting on 13 May 2021. As part of the airline’s ramp up it will operate two flights between Johannesburg and Victoria Falls for the duration of May, which will be on a Thursday and Sunday. Thereafter from 1 June 2021, customers can expect to have daily flights to and from the popular tourist destination._</blockquote>
The airline resumed bookings for their services to Harare as part of their gradual ramp-up schedule in March this year after they had suspended the flight in March 2020 in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

British Airways Resume Zimbabwe - South Africa Flights

British Airways (BA) pilots on Monday embarked on strike over a pay dispute leading to the grounding of nearly all the planes.
The job action forced the cancellation of 1,700 flights to and from London’s Heathrow and Gatwick airports.
In an interview with BBC TV, BA Chief Executive Alex Cruz said:
<blockquote>It’s going to punish customers, it’s going to punish our brand, it’s going to punish the rest of the colleagues.
… The commitment of everyone at British Airways is to get over this particular dispute as quickly as possible and we urge the union to sit down with us as quickly as we can so we can reach an agreement.</blockquote>
Cruz added that the 11.5% offered to pilots was “way above” inflation, which stood at 2.1% in July.
BA offered its pilots an 11.5% pay rise over three years, which it said would take the pay of its highest-earning captains from 167,000 pounds ($205,000), plus 16,000 pounds in allowances, to just over 200,000 pounds.
This, however, is not satisfactory to the pilots.  British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) General Secretary Brian Strutton said:
<blockquote>British Airways is going through some good times, we want to share in those profits just as we shared the pain in the bad times.</blockquote>
The latest strike has been scheduled for Monday and Tuesday this week, while another strike is set for September 27.

1 700 Flights Cancelled After British Airways Pilots Down Tools

British Airways has temporarily limited the distribution of ticketing authority meaning that the airline has stopped accepting real-time gross settlement (RTGS) transfers for the purchase of tickets. Instead, the airline is now accepting only credit cards after facing difficulties in the repatriation of foreign currency. In a letter dated 08 October 2018, the airline said,
<blockquote>RE: BRITISH AIRWAYS operated by COMAIR TEMPORARY WITHDRAWAL OF FULL TICKETING AUTHORITY IN ZIMBABWE
In light of the ongoing difficulties experienced in foreign currency repatriation, Comair regrets to inform our Trade Partners that British Airways operated by Comair is temporarily limiting distribution of Ticketing Authority In the Zimbabwe market.
Effective immediately, the Ticketing Authority for agents In Zimbabwe shall be limited to credit card only, through the BSP system. All tickets issued on 125 paper are included in this Directive, regardless of carrier.
British Airways and Comair Ltd is working tireless, to find a solution and we shall continue to communicate with the Trade as we try to resolve. In case of any queries, please contact us at the Comair Ltd Town Office.</blockquote>

British Airways No Longer Accepting RTGS Payments, Only Accepting Credit Cards

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) boss Karikoga Kaseke has revealed that his organisation will continue engaging British Airways, despite the fact that the airline turned down Tourism Minister Prisca Mupfumira’s plea. Kaseke said that the airline had told Mupfumira that the Harare-London route was not viable because it did not have enough potential for business class.
Speaking at Zimndaba investment conference in London, Kaseke said,

Last time when my minister was here, she had a meeting with British Airways.
BA are saying that, from their perspective and when they look at their projections, they see a lot of potential for economy class travellers but when they look at business class possibilities and try to balance with their business model they are seeing the balance not working out.
They (BA) say they are more interested in the business class travellers. As you know, KLM introduced flights some few years back and within nine months they pulled out for the same reasons.
…They (BA) are working with us now; we are trying to convince them what starts first. Is it an egg or the chicken? To us, there is no doubt, the chicken starts.</blockquote>

British Airways Rejects Minister's Plea To Resume London-Harare Flights

United Family International Church (UFIC) founder and leader Emmanuel Makandiwa prophesied on two seperate occasions, on February 26 and April 9 this year, that he had seen a British Airways plane grounded in a very rare development. On the 9th of April 2016, Makandiwa explaining that he had seen a plane with smoke coming out at Heathrow Airport in London, UK. He encouraged his followers to pray for British Airways so as to prevent loss of life.
In confirmation of the prophecy, on the 17th of April, a British Airways jet carrying 132 passengers landed at Heathrow’s Terminal 5 airport safely after a mid-air collision with a drone as the plane approached the airport. <a href="http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/drone-crashes-british-airways-passenger-7776727">The Mirror reports that</a> the drone struck the front of the plane just after 12.50pm as it was landing at Terminal Five but left no damage.
