<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Winky_D">Winky D</a>‘s latest offering, Eureka which was launched on New Year’s Eve at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) reflects social rot in Zimbabwe where corruption is rampant, Brezh Malaba says.
Malaba, a journalist, said Winky D’s Ibotso portrays Zimbabwe as a long-decayed society in which the residents naively hope things will miraculously change for the better. Pindula News presents Malaba’s analysis of Winky D’s project:

Zimbabwean journalist, Brezh Malaba has said last year’ budget allocation to the health sector indicates that the ZANU PF government does not prioritise the citizens’ health.
He speaks at the backdrop of a coronavirus resurgence that has seen many people dying. Brezh Malaba posted on Twitter on Sunday:

Crumbling healthcare is the outcome of a multi-faceted governance crisis that pervades every facet of life in this country. The situation is dire: Gross under-funding of hospitals, corruption, decaying health infrastructure, exodus of medical professionals, low investment in research.

Political elites have often been criticised for “neglecting the health sector” since they can and have been getting medical attention from abroad.
As a huge number of government officials has succumbed to COVID-19, some say the government will probably start realising the importance of investing in the local health care system.
In 2019, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/07/08/self-trained-mbare-midwife-mbuya-gwena-wants-to-resume-services/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">self-trained Mbare midwife, Mbuya Esther Zinyoyo-Gwena</a> made headlines after delivering 250 babies in 2 weeks during the famous nurses’ strike of 2019 an indication that the health sector was collapsed.

FULL THREAD: Citizens' Health Not A Priority - B Malaba

Health Minister Obadiah Moyo has been arrested by ZRP and is currently detained at Rhodesvile Police. This was posted by Journalist Brezh Malaba who tweeted and said:
<blockquote>Health minister Obadiah Moyo has been arrested. He’s at Rhodesville police station. It’s in connection with procurement contract corruption.</blockquote>
Obadiah was reportedly arrested by ZACC yesterday and according to sources he was questioned and released. ZACC, however, denied that they did not arrest the minister.
However this evening ZACC commissioner John Makamure confirmed his arrest and said:
<blockquote>Yes, he has been arrested and is in detention. That’s all I can say for now.</blockquote>
Moyo is facing charges of corruption after it emerged that he handpicked companies not on the procurement register to supply the ministry with medical supplies. His exact charges are yet to be released.
Zimbabweans led by Hopewell Chin’ono have been calling for the arrest of the minister after details of gross corruption in the procurement of COVID-19 material surfaced.

UPDATED: Obadiah Moyo Arrested By ZRP

The ZRP national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi has reportedly denied confirming that ZRP had arrested 3 MDC Alliance activists who were subsequently abducted and tortured and dumped near Bindura. This was revealed by journalist Brezh Malaba who said:
<blockquote>Police spokes Asst Comm Paul Nyathi says he “never confirmed the arrest” of the MDC-A youth leaders. He claims he told the Herald &amp; Daily News when they phoned him that he intended to find out from Harare police what had transpired. He’s basically accusing the papers of lying.</blockquote>
When the story broke last week, <a href="https://news.pindula.co.zw/2020/05/14/zimbabwe-police-issues-contradicting-statements-on-disappearance-of-mdcs-mamombe-and-colleagues/">ZRP issued contradicting statements</a> first confirming that the activists were in custody and then denying that the activists were in their custody.

Paul Nyathi Denied Confirming The Arrest Of 3 MDC Alliance Members - Report

The government has reversed a recent directive which compelled companies to test their workers for Covid-19 before resuming operations under the relaxed lockdown regime.
Companies now just need to check the temperature when workers report for duty, enforce the wearing of masks, sanitize hands and uphold social distancing. Addressing a post-cabinet briefing in Harare on Tuesday evening, Information Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said:
<blockquote>S.I. 99 of 2020 requires companies in the commercial and industrial sectors which are opening for the first time during the period of lockdown to have all their employees tested for the COVID-19 virus using the 
Rapid Results test. This is a condition precedent.
It has since transpired that companies are experiencing difficulties in accessing the Rapid Results test kits for testing their employees. In order to facilitate companies in the commercial and industrial sectors opening in terms of the relaxation pronounced under S.I. 99 of 2020, Government has decided that, pending companies acquiring the required test kits to test their employees, companies will be permitted to open subject to the following conditions being met in relation to their employees…</blockquote>
The conditions are that workers have to undergo temperature tests upon entering work premises, companies to provide sanitizers upon entry for workers to sanitize their hands, each employee to wear a face mask in an appropriate form and employees to practice social distancing in the workplace
Mutsvangwa added that In the event that an employee has a temperature which is above that which the Ministry of Health and Child Care considers requires further testing, then such employee shall not be admitted to the workplace, but shall immediately be referred to a facility of the Ministry of Health and Child Care to enable a Rapid Result test, to be administered on such employee.
On Friday, President Mnangagwa announced that the country will extend the national lockdown which was meant to end at midnight on Sunday by a further 14 days but downgraded it to Level Two.
In announcing the downgrading of the lockdown to Level Two, President Mnangagwa also said all workers are set to be screened and tested to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
In a statement on Monday, Health and Child Care Ministry Permanent Secretary Dr Agnes Mahomva said that COVID-19 testing for workers had been made mandatory.
She added that companies had to buy rapid tests kits for themselves and arrange with designated testing facilities for their employees to be tested for the virus.

Businesses No Longer Required To Test Workers For Coronavirus

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana has once again posted on social media giving an update on the status of returnees from the United Kingdom who were refusing to be quarantined at Belvedere College.
Mangwana said that they will sleep at the college adding that law enforcers were there to make sure that law was adhered to. He said:
<blockquote>The travellers from the UK will spend tonight at Belvedere Teachers’ College. Police are there to ensure that noone will break the law of the Land.</blockquote>
Brezh Malaba, a Zimbabwean journalist, also posted an update saying:
<blockquote>The Ethiopian Airlines passengers have been served a meal comprising beef, cabbage &amp; isitshwala. Harare City council has reconnected the water supply. They’ve agreed to sleep at Belvedere College tonight &amp; the authorities promised to transfer them to the University of Zim.</blockquote>
The returnees had earlier refused to be quarantined at the institution citing the absence of water. They were reportedly demanding to be quarantined at local hotels.

UPDATE: On Returnees From The UK "Refusing To Be Quarantined At Belvedere College"

Journalist Brezh Malaba while writing for the Zimbabwe Independent has urged the government to take decisive action like scrapping the 2% tax and fully libraries the exchange rate to avoid an economic turmoil that the country might find itself in after the COVID-19 pandemic.
Malaba opined:
<blockquote>A couple of days ago, my attention was drawn to a short video clip showing the City of Harare’s 
director of health, Dr Prosper Chonzi, explaining to Finance minister Professor Mthuli Ncube in a ward 
at Wilkins Infectious Diseases Hospital how a life-saving ventilator works.
The respected physician described in simple terms how the contraption functions, while the Cambridge-trained economist displayed a disarming sense of enthusiasm in getting to understand the intricacies of 
medical technology.
It got me thinking. Zimbabwe has no shortage of technocrats. With Covid-19 plunging the economy into unprecedented turmoil, these thinkers must now earn their keep. Chonzi has fared remarkably well in this crisis. You can tell that he knows exactly what is needed, but is sabotaged at every turn by a rotten and lethargic system.
Ncube is expected to carry the weight of Covid-19 on his shoulders. He is no superman, of course, but Zimbabwe is deficient in solid leadership anyway and we must work with the spanners we have in our meagre toolbox. The huge task at hand is three-pronged: strengthening a decayed health sector, resurrecting a dead economy and averting a humanitarian catastrophe of apocalyptic proportions. Most people are currently focussed on the disease trajectory and rightly so but there is a spine chilling storm on the horizon.
We have to remind each other that Zimbabwe was already a broken economy before Covid-19. How we survive the ensuing tsunami will depend on the calibre of leadership as well as our willingness to roll up the sleeves and do the work. If the government continues with a “business as usual” approach, we risk massive economic dislocation, humanitarian disaster, a spike in crime and civil unrest. Riding the storm will not be easy. The government has no reserves and there are no deep-pocketed friends willing to bail us out. We are on our own.
Here is what this country needs to do. The 2% tax on electronic transactions must be scrapped. It is an immoral heist on the poor. Secondly, the exchange rate has to be fully liberalised. There is no transparency in the allocation of foreign currency in this country and we all know that sunlight is the 
greatest disinfectant.
To avert economic chaos and what we are experiencing right now will look like a Sunday picnic if decisive action is not taken now the government has to show courage and uncharacteristic wisdom by embracing 
a dual-currency system. More importantly, Zimbabwe is crying out for a political settlement. Prolonged questions of legitimacy and credibility have serious implications for the country’s ability to access the international credit markets. And without fresh credit, you cannot rescue this economy.
Social safety nets are vital, but the long term and sustainable solution can only come from rebooting the economy by creating policy certainty, availing credit to companies, sorting out the messy land tenure system, tackling corruption and re-imagining a new brand of national politics.</blockquote>

OPINION: Only Decisive Action Can Stop Post COVID-19 Economic Turmoil

A popular Twimbo, Journalist Brezh Malaba has tweeted that there is no water at the country’s largest referral hospital, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.
In his tweet, Malaba expressed his despair and said:
<blockquote>There was no water at Parirenyatwa Hospital today. That’s Zimbabwe’s largest hospital. This society is totally broken. What kind of country is this?</blockquote>
Meanwhile, the MDC leader’s spokesperson said  Wilkins Hospital has 30 beds and Thorngrove has less than 30 beds to deal with Harare and Bulawayo COVID-19 cases which claimed the life of broadcaster Zororo Makamba this afternoon.
