Bikita Chief Executive Officer, Peter Chibhi, who tragically took his own life, ingested poison immediately after attending a ZANU PF kangaroo court, as reported by <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/straight-from-zanu-pf-kangaroo-court-to-suicide/">The Mirror</a>.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded after Chibhi was summoned by ZANU PF officials to address specific inquiries last Saturday, merely two days before his untimely demise.
He was questioned about the sale of stands on a ZANU PF Heroes’ Acre and at the ZANU PF Women’s League Hall in Nyika Growth Point.
Chibhi was also questioned on Hanyani, a private company which he and the finance director allegedly formed to do business with the council.
The meeting also referenced a negative council audit report, which currently serves as the basis for an investigation against senior council officials.
Chibhi left the meeting held at the council boardroom at Nyika Growth Point in a huff and bought a bottle of poison on his way home.
He left the receipt on a table at home and went to another house he was building nearby and drank the poison, according to sources close to the family.
The Mirror established that Chibhi was called to the meeting at around noon by Kudakwashe Gopo, the ZANU PF district political commissar and he turned up. The meeting ended around 3 pm. Gopo confirmed his role in calling and summoning Chibhi to the meeting. He said:

Yes, I am the one who called him to the meeting and he attended. I however cannot comment on any other issues because I am not allowed to by the party.
</blockquote>
At the meeting, notable figures including former Army general Englebert Rugeje, Bikita East MP Court Zevezanai, former Education Minister Gabriel Machinga, Senator Anna Rungani, Central Committee member Univester Mukwena, and Provincial member Simon Muchafa were in attendance.
Additionally, four chiefs—Marozva, Budzi, Mabika, and Ziki—participated, along with Bikita RDC chairperson Thomas Mataga and five council committee chairpersons.
The situation raises questions about the authority of ZANU PF to summon and interrogate a CEO of a local authority, whose reporting structure typically involves councillors and the Ministry of Local Government.
DCC chairperson, Chamunorwa Taruona said the meeting with Chibhi was conducted cordially, with no instances of harassment.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to seek clarification on certain issues. Taruona added that after the meeting concluded, everyone went home, and there was no indication that Chibhi would take such a drastic step.
Taruona believes that Chibhi may have been dealing with personal problems at home.
Mataga, who was part of the meeting, mentioned that they had pledged support to Chibhi during a difficult time when he was under investigation for corruption.
Despite the reassurances, Chibhi’s decision to take his own life reportedly came as a surprise.
Mataga expressed disbelief, emphasizing that they had no inkling that he would resort to such drastic measures.
Chibhi’s wife allegedly discovered a receipt on the table, which raised suspicions.
She followed him to their new house and found him in distress. She promptly took him to Silveira Hospital.
Chibhi was later transferred to Masvingo Provincial Hospital, where he sadly passed away around 3 AM on Monday.

Bikita RDC CEO Dies After ZANU PF Kangaroo Court Appearance

Delta Corporation Limited, a company that produces beverages and is listed on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE), is financing a solar borehole project in the Nyahunda area of Bikita, Masvingo province. The project, which costs US$10,000, aims to provide clean water to over 5,000 people, including 500 students from Tagona Secondary and Chitenderano Primary Schools.
In addition to the borehole project, Delta Corporation has spent US$15,000 to refurbish a classroom block, a teacher’s house, and ablution facilities for the school children. These buildings were damaged by heavy rains in October 2023. The project began late last year and focuses on addressing the issue of inadequate water and poor sanitation in Tagona, Chitenderano Schools, and the Nyahunda community. This effort will help mitigate the spread of the ongoing cholera epidemic.
According to Ms. Patricia Murambinda, the general manager in charge of corporate affairs at Delta, Bikita experiences water shortages, and the community often faces outbreaks of diarrhoea and typhoid due to the use of contaminated water. The solar borehole project aims to provide clean and safe water to these vulnerable communities.
Ms. Murambinda emphasized that the project empowers communities to fight against the cholera pandemic while addressing the crucial need for water access. The solarized borehole will help alleviate water shortages caused by climate change in rural areas, benefiting some of the country’s poorest and most vulnerable people. The Chronicle cites Murambinda as saying:

This project has enabled us to take a step towards empowering communities to fight against the cholera pandemic, while delivering on the vital human need, of access to water.
The provision of the solarized borehole will alleviate climate change-induced water shortages in rural areas housing some of the poorest and most vulnerable people in the country, which has been made possible through a generous grant from Delta.

Furthermore, the refurbishment of the classroom block, teacher’s house, and ablution facilities aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all. Ms. Murambinda also highlighted that the project has encouraged alumni and former students to participate in community projects. Some of them have recently collaborated to rehabilitate a borehole at Ngorima Clinic, which is handling increased cases of cholera.
The whole of Africa and the Southern African region in particular, is grappling with Cholera. As of February 15, 2024, Zimbabwe reported a total of 24,682 suspected cases of Cholera. Out of these, 2,586 cases have been confirmed. Fortunately, 24,009 people have recovered from the illness. However, there have been 71 confirmed deaths due to Cholera, and an additional 460 deaths are suspected to be related to the disease.

Delta Corporation Funds Clean Water Initiative In Masvingo Province

A 102-year-old Bikita man was found dead on his bedroom floor in a suspected murder case as he had a deep cut on the forehead.
In a statement posted on X, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) said the body was found on Sunday in Bikita, Masvingo Province. Police said:

The ZRP is investigating a murder case in which the body of a 102-year-old man was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the forehead in his bedroom hut in Bikita on 07/01/24. Police recovered an approximately 1.2 m blood-stained log beside the body.

Some social media users have speculated that the centenarian may have been killed for ritual purposes and expressed sadness that a person who lived such a long life died a violent, rather than peaceful natural death.

102 Year-old Man Murdered In Bikita

<a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Munyaradzi_Kereke/">Munyaradzi Kereke</a>, a former advisor to the <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Reserve_Bank_of_Zimbabwe/">Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe</a><a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Reserve_Bank_of_Zimbabwe/"> (RBZ)</a> governor, appeared in court on charges of defrauding the Harare Municipal Medical Aid Society (HMMAS) of US$137,000. Kereke and HMMAS CEO Everisto Rukasha appeared before Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa and were remanded in custody for a bail application the following day.
The complainant in the case is HMMAS, which is a subsidiary of the City of Harare. Rukasha is currently suspended, and Kereke is the founder and owner of Briward (Pvt) Ltd, trading as Fortress Hospital.
The allegations state that in early 2014, Rukasha and Kereke agreed to sell Fortress Hospital to HMMAS. Kereke appointed Newton Madzika to handle the transaction on his behalf. HMMAS made a full payment of US$800,000 into Health Body Images’ bank account on November 7, 2014.
However, in March 2022, Rukasha and Kereke conspired to defraud HMMAS. Kereke falsely claimed that HMMAS still owed him US$400,000 for the property purchase. He threatened to repossess the property, which was still in his name, and informed the HMMAS board that he possessed the property’s title deeds.
As a result, HMMAS authorised payment to settle the deceitfully created debt.
Kereke, a former ZANU PF Member of Parliament for <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bikita/">Bikita</a> West constituency, has a pending rape case. In July 2016, he was convicted of raping his under age niece at gunpoint and was given a 10-year prison sentence. However, in August 2021, the Supreme Court <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/2021/08/04/munyaradzi-kereke-granted-500-000-bail/">granted him bail of $500,000</a> while he awaited the outcome of his appeal against the conviction and sentence. The bail was accompanied by strict conditions set by the court.

Former RBZ Advisor, Munyaradzi Kereke, Appears In Court For Defrauding HMMAS Of US$137,000

Health authorities in Bikita have banned the serving of food during funerals, weddings and other public gatherings to curb the spread of cholera, <a href="https://www.zimlive.com/bikita-health-authorities-ban-serving-of-food-at-funerals-amid-cholera-scare/">reported ZimLive</a>.
The decree follows a recent outbreak of the disease which has claimed almost 100 lives across the country since February this year.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the measure will be in place until the outbreak has been brought under control. It said:

In light of the current cholera outbreak in our district, this office writes to enforce the provisions of the Public Health Act CP 15:17 Section 46.
We effect that no gatherings that provide food will be sanctioned until our outbreak subsides.
All deaths be notified to the Ministry of Health and Child Care. All funerals be supervised by health staff and not provide food.
Please be guided accordingly. In the interest of Public Health.

In Zaka, the Ministry of Health and Childcare issued a statement setting out new rules to be observed as it tries to fight the outbreak. <a href="https://www.news24.com/news24/africa/news/cholera-spreading-fast-in-zimbabwe-with-funeral-restrictions-calls-to-close-schools-20231004">These are</a>:
<ul>
<li>The suspension of controlled gatherings and those sanctioned must be supervised by Ministry of Health personnel.</li>
<li>All households must employ water purification methods such as boiling water and the use of aqua tablets.</li>
<li>All church meetings have been suspended and funerals should be supervised by ministry officials.</li>
<li>Food should not be cooked at funerals and the maximum number of people to attend funerals must be 50.</li>
<li>Open markets have been suspended and selling food at undesignated premises is prohibited. Public beer halls have been shut down.</li>
</ul>
In an update on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health said the cholera outbreak had now spread to more than the 17 traditional cholera hotspot districts of Buhera, Chegutu, Chikomba, Chimanimani, Chipinge, Chitungwiza, Chiredzi, Harare, Gokwe North, Marondera, Mazowe, Shamva, Mutare, Murehwa, Mwenezi, Seke, and Wedza.

Health Authorities Ban Food At Funerals In Bikita, Zaka

A man from Bikita in Masvingo Province was last week sentenced to 36 years imprisonment after he was convicted of raping his 9-year-old stepdaughter on several occasions.
According to NewZimbabwe.com, the paedophile repeatedly raped her whenever he was left to look after the girl and her siblings at Shumba village.
The abuse initially came to light after his five-year-old daughter found him raping the nine-year-old in their kitchen hut.
Their mother had left her husband with the two girls and a 16-month-old toddler while she fetched water at a nearby borehole.
According to court papers, the five-year-old girl threatened to tell her mother what she had witnessed but the father started threatening to stab her if she ever revealed what had happened.
The mother then walked in and confronted her husband over what had happened.
She then realised that her daughter had been raped as there was semen on a towel he had spread on the floor. Reads the court papers:

The five-year-old sister walked in as he was in the act and told him that she was going to tell their mother. The accused also threatened to stab her with a knife.
The complainant’s mother walked in, found him threatening the 5-year-old and saw the sperm on the towel that he had spread on the floor where he raped the complainant.
He pleaded with her and asked for forgiveness.

The mother apparently forgave her husband for raping his stepdaughter but he again raped the victim in December 2022 when the mother went to visit an aunt in the same village.
The girl then confessed to her uncle who accompanied her to the police to report leading to the arrest of her stepfather.
The stepfather will, however, serve 32 years effective after four years of his sentence were set aside conditionally.

Bikita Man Jailed 32 Years For Raping Stepdaughter (9)

Stray buffaloes that were spotted in Buhera District on 13 March attacked and seriously injured a woman from Zambakwe Village in Chief Budzi’s area in neighbouring Bikita District the following day.
Chief Budzi confirmed the incident to <a href="https://masvingomirror.com/stray-buffaloes-seriously-injure-bikita-woman/">The Mirror</a>, saying the woman was attacked 15km deep into Bikita villages.
The victim, Monica Mukamba (50), was attacked by a buffalo at around 10 AM while washing plates next to her hut. She reportedly sustained a broken rib in the attack. Chief Budzi said:

The stray buffaloes are 15km deep into the villages from Save Conservancy. We are afraid that they are going to attack more people if the Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management (Zimparks) doesn’t immediately locate them and take them back to the conservancy.
</blockquote>
Mukamba’s neighbour, Zebron Gumireshe, said Zimparks was informed immediately after the attack but rangers only arrived at 5 PM.
Mukamba was taken to Dewure Clinic where she was referred to Birchenough Bridge Hospital.

Bikita Woman Attacked, Seriously Injured By Stray Buffaloes

A 62-year-old man died after being strangled at a funeral in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bikita">Bikita</a>, Masvingo for asking the suspect to return his burdizzo, a specialized clamp used for castration. 
In a report seen by Pindula News, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has since arrested a man who strangled the deceased. Reads the statement:

Police in Bikita arrested Vetengeni Kwaramba (34) in connection with a case of Murder in which Webster Mhembere (62) died whilst admitted at Masvingo General Hospital after being pinned to the ground and strangled by Vetengeni Kwaramba. The incident took place during a funeral service at Romberai Village, Chief Mazungunye on 08/03/23. The victim had asked the suspect to return his burdizzo which he had taken.

Man Strangled At A Funeral Over A Burdizzo

A commercial sex worker was robbed and killed by two clients she had offered sex to in Bikita, Masvingo Province, on Thursday.
Police said that the victim, aged 24, had offered her services to the two men, who after satisfying their appetites, demanded the money they had paid her, assaulted severely her, and took the money.
The woman died the following day as a result of the injuries she suffered during the assault. Police said:

The ZRP is investigating a murder case where a woman (24) was attacked by two unknown male suspects whom she had offered sex at a charge of US$20 at Makaya Village, Bikita, on 17/11/22.
After the act, the suspects allegedly demanded the money they had paid for the services before severely assaulting the victim with sticks and robbing her of US$20.
The victim succumbed to the injuries sustained on 18/11/22.

In another murder case, police in Epworth arrested Innocent Zamura (34) for allegedly killing a 22-year-old man after he saw him walking with his ex-wife. Police said in a statement:

On 17/11/22, ZRP Epworth arrested Innocent Zaruma (34) for a murder case in which he attacked his ex-wife, Talent Simba (23), and Surance Sithole (22) after he had found the two walking together near Mabvazuva Secondary school in Epworth, Harare on 16/11/22.
The suspect stabbed Surance Sithole once in the stomach before dragging his ex-wife to an unknown place, leaving the victim with protruding intestines.
The victim was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Two Men Rob And Kill Sex Worker In Bikita

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has implored the public to cover unprotected water bodies to avoid loss of life after a one year-six months old child recently drowned in a well while trying to get water to drink.
The incident occurred on 28 October 2022 at Mutamba Village under Chief Marozva, Masvingo.
ZRP spokesperson in Masvingo Province, Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident.
He said the toddler, Trevor Chakadenga, drowned after he strayed from his mother Rudo Mhere (29) who was tilling a piece of land.
<a href="https://masvingomirror.com/toddler-drowns-in-a-well/">The Mirror</a> reported sources as saying Trevor was playing in a field where his mother was preparing land for the Pfumvudza farming programme close to a hill.
The boy allegedly wandered off from the hill and drowned in a well as he tried to drink water.
After the mother realised that her child was missing, she searched for him around the field only to find his lifeless body floating in the well.
She retrieved the body and reported the matter to the police. A post-mortem was waived by Bikita Resident Magistrate Mugabe.

Toddler Drowns In An Uncovered Well

A member of the Johanne Marange Apostolic sect says it is an offence for any of their members to receive medical treatment.
Dorcas Mhere (47), the senior wife of Clever Maveto, said they have been using holy water, salt and cooking oil to cure all her children when they fall ill since the early 1980s.
The Maveto family, from Bikita District in Masvingo Province, is accused of burying children in a mass grave after they allegedly succumbed to measles.
Reports claimed Maveto (67), a polygamist, buried his children, aged one, three and four years – as well as a 10-month-old toddler – under the cover of darkness after they allegedly succumbed to measles-related complications last month.
Maveto has, however, refuted the allegations saying he is prepared to let anyone exhume the bodies to see for themselves that there were no mass graves at his homestead.
Meanwhile, Mhere told <a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/water-salt-cooking-oil-and-in-other-cases-just-a-bit-of-coca-cola-a-familys-master-prescription-for-illnesses/">H-Metro</a> that she has never been to a hospital and depends on prayers and help from prophets. She said:
<blockquote>
It is not allowed for one to seek medical attention. You just pray for whatever illness you’re facing or consult the prophet for help.
We only use holy water, cooking oil and salt, depending on the prophet’s instructions.
When a child is born, we perform a ritual to protect the baby from measles.
For other ailments, like a running stomach, we use fresh milk and Coca-Cola, to cleanse the body.

Alice Chiyambiro, Mhere’s sister, said they also use a mixture of lemons, cooking oil and warm water for healing infants with fontanelle problems (nhova).

Apostolic Sect Member Says It's An Offence To Receive Medical Treatment

A member of the Johanne Marange Apostolic Sect in Bikita, Masvingo, says rumours he secretly buried nine of his children in mass graves are false and probably the work of his enemies.
The reports claimed Clever Maveto (67), a polygamist, buried his children, aged one, three and four years – as well as a 10-month-old toddler – under the cover of darkness after they allegedly succumbed to measles-related complications last month.
He had reportedly refused to take the children to the hospital for treatment.
<a href="https://www.hmetro.co.zw/kids-mass-graves-father-clears-the-air-over-raging-controversy-ready-to-exhume-bodies-to-shame-critics/">H-Metro</a> reported sources as saying Maveto buried the bodies in sets of threes.
But Maveto, who has 15 children with three wives, claimed he had only lost one son and three grandchildren. He said:
<blockquote>
I am prepared to let anyone exhume the bodies to check whether there is any mass grave here.
Only two of the children died of measles-related complications and the others died of natural causes.
The only problem was that when we buried the first two, we woke up as early as 5 AM to dig the graves and buried them that morning.

Police officers and officials from the Ministry of Health and Child Care, as well as Social Welfare representatives, visited the Maveto homestead following rumours of the existence of mass graves.
Maveto said the officials only found “the four graves and not the mass graves people are talking about”.
His children ran away, when they saw nurses, fearing they would be vaccinated against measles, despite showing signs of the disease. Added Maveto:

All my children don’t go to any clinic. We have our own doctors at church and they are responsible for dealing with any illness.
</blockquote>
His senior wife, Dorcas Mhere, said they can easily treat measles and will not go against their beliefs.
Meanwhile, Sabhuku (village head) Gede said he had also heard the rumours of a mass grave at Maveto’s homestead, but the rumours have not been confirmed. He said:
<blockquote>
Our only issue with Maveto, and many members of the Johanne Marange sect, is their attitude towards health matters.
We have a measles outbreak and all his children contracted the disease because they are not vaccinated and neither have they been taken to the clinic or hospital for treatment.
Now, that schools have opened, his children are back at school and exposing other children to measles.

Johanne Marange Sect Member Denies Rumours Of Kids' Mass Grave At Homestead

Poachers shot and killed an endangered white rhinoceros and harvested some of its body parts before burying the carcass in a pit in Bikita, Masvingo Province on Sunday last week.
ZRP national spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident, saying two bullet heads were retrieved from the carcass after it was cut open.
The poachers covered the carcass with black polythene plastic and some tree branches. Said Nyathi:

The ZRP is investigating a case of poaching which occurred in Bikita, where a white rhinoceros carcass was found slightly buried in a pit approximately 1.5 metres deep with some body parts missing…
Two gunshot wounds were noted on its shoulder and two bullet heads were recovered from the shoulder after it was cut open.

In an unrelated incident, Police in Victoria Falls arrested Leonard Ndebele (36) for unlawful possession of raw ivory.
The suspect was arrested on 21 February after detectives received information to the effect that the suspect was in possession of ivory which he intended to sell in Victoria Falls. 
Police made some follow-ups leading to the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of two elephant tusks, weighing 37.86kgs, which the suspect hid in the bush.

Poachers Kill White Rhino In Bikita

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) reportedly forced all shops at Janet Shopping Centre in Ward 17 Bikita, Masvingo to shut down ahead of a visit to the area by MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa.
Villagers were also forced to go home blocking them from meeting Chamisa who is on a whirlwind tour of Masvingo province as he drums up support ahead of the 2023 national elections.
MDC-A deputy spokesperson Ostallos Siziba told NewZimbabwe.com that police had forced business operators at the business centre to close their shops. He added:

The president outmanoeuvred regime agents who tried to block his meetings in Bikita and Zaka.
He met community leaders, special interest groups, and citizens as he continues his interface.

ZANU PF has unleashed rowdy clowns, hungry moribund women, and unemployed young people to try and distract a meeting that never was.

Meanwhile, at one of his meetings, Chamisa told villagers he was confident he would defeat ZANU PF presidential candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa “hands down” in the 2023 elections.
He added under his government, would ask people who looted state assets to return them as his administration had no appetite for retribution.

Shops Forced To Close Ahead Of Chamisa Visit

The MDC Alliance and civic society organisations (CSOs) yesterday accused the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) of working with ZANU PF to block opposition leader Nelson Chamisa from meeting villagers in Masvingo Province.
The police allegedly teargassed the opposition leader at a private residence in Masvingo town on Monday.
On Wednesday, police also besieged the Zaka home of MDC Alliance provincial chairman for Masvingo province Senator Misheck Marava and interrogated those present and demanded to search the place.
Reports indicate that the police in Bikita forced a noon shutdown of Janet Shopping as Chamisa was passing by.
However, ZRP spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said he was unaware of the allegations made by the MDC Alliance. He said:

The ZRP is not aware of these allegations. We are only seeing them on social media. The ZRP command in Masvingo has made it clear that if there are any reports, the MDC Alliance must engage the police and verify facts rather than exaggerating some issues on the social media platforms.
The MDC Alliance is implored to engage the officer commanding Masvingo province and raise their complaints.

Chamisa yesterday told NewsDay that the police did nothing to protect them from violent ZANU PF activists. He said:

Honestly, if we are stage-managing riot police barricading a homestead in a village where we were supposed to be meeting community leaders, then we must be great actors, bigger than Hollywood and Bollywood stars.
If we are able to rope in other components of the State to that act, without anyone being arrested, then we are that big.

Chamisa, however, said despite the violence, his delegation had held meetings in Chivi, Ngundu, Mwenezi, Chingwizi and Rutenga.
He said he had been energised by the support the party was receiving from the people.
The opposition leader is on a whirlwind tour of Masvingo where he has been meeting villagers.

The government has issued more than 4 000 Identity Documents in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North province during the recent special exercise by the Civil Registry Department.
The special exercise was targeted at the San community and those in Bikita who were affected by the floods in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
The San community has over the years faced a problem accessing Identification documents which has hindered them in getting key amenities like education.
Addressing reporters during a post Cabinet briefing in Harare on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said:

The exercise sought to document citizens in Bikita District who were affected by Cyclone Idai in 2019, and those affected by the 2017 floods in Tsholotsho, including the Tjawo (San) community in the District.
The Bikita mobile registration programme commenced on 6 September 2021, and ended on 5 October 2021, while the Tsholotsho exercise ran from 13 September to 12 October 2021.
The services availed during the mobile registration exercises in the 2 districts covered birth, death and national identity registration.

She said in Bikita, 4 397 national identity documents were issued while in Tsholotsho, a total of 4 169 national identity documents were issued. Said Mutsvangwa:

In Tsholotsho, 3 542 initial birth registration for children under the age of 16 years were issued, 600 initial birth registration for persons above 16 years of age, 46 duplicate birth certificates were issued to children under 16 years of age, 625 duplicate birth certificates were issued to persons above the age of 16 years and 58 death certificates.
In Bikita, 3 112 initial birth registration for children under the age of 16 years were issued, 348 initial birth registration for persons above 16 years of age, 26 duplicate birth certificates were issued to children under 16 years of age, 522 duplicate birth certificates were issued to persons above the age of 16 years and 58 death certificates.

Over 8 000 Get Documented In Tsholotsho And Bikita

Police detectives have arrested five suspected armed robbers who stormed a house in Bikita and stole a gun, ammunition and two cell phones before fleeing.
The five, Wonder Mahuni (42), Wirimai Gatsi (37), Christopher Danda (40), Evidence Damu (34) and Peter Jodo (35) were reportedly armed with a pistol, hammer and machetes when they committed the offence.
They also stole cash amounting to US$70 and R700 before they left the complainant’s house.
Police national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the arrest and warned robbery syndicates that operations to account for all suspects are in full swing. He said:
<blockquote>On 19 July 2021 detectives arrested Wonder Mahuni (42), Wirimai Gatsi (37), Christopher Danda (40) Evidence Damu (34) and Peter Jodo (35) for a robbery case which occurred in Duma location, Nyika, Bikita, on 10 June 2021.
The suspects who were armed with an unknown pistol, hammer and machetes stormed the complainant’s house, attacked the complainant and his wife before stealing a safe box containing a malfunctioning revolver, unknown number of ammunition and two cellphones.
Also stolen was cash amounting to US$70 and ZAR700. The ZRP warns robbery syndicates that operations to account for all suspects are in full swing.</blockquote>
This comes as police in Plumtree are investigating an armed robbery case that occurred on 20 July 21 along Dombodema Road in Plumtree.
It is alleged that five men armed with an unidentified pistol and spikes attacked two victims before stealing R385 000 cash, a Honda Fit, cellphones and wristwatch.
Nyathi said the complainants were travelling in a Honda Fit motor vehicle towards Maitengwe border post along Madlambuzi Road when they were intercepted by the suspects who were driving a beige Toyota Granvia motor vehicle.
The Honda Fit was recovered at Hebron, Plumtree.

Police Arrest Armed Robbers Who Stormed Bikita House

A little girl from Bikita who went missing on Saturday last week has been found dead, Masvingo Mirror reports.
Mitchel Musharu (6) was last seen alive on Saturday last week at around 6 pm while playing outside her parents’ shop at Nyika Growth Point.
Her body was discovered in a sack that was thrown into a septic tank behind her parents’ shop.
Masvingo Police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the matter but could not provide more details as he was out of office.
Masvingo Mirror reported a source as saying Mitchel’s remains were expected to be buried this Saturday in Bikita. The source was quoted as saying:
<blockquote>Mitchel’s body was found tied up in a sack that was thrown into a septic tank behind her parents’ shop. Her remains are being interned today in Bikita.</blockquote>

Popular Bikita traditional leader Chief Marozva (real name Philip Mudhe) has died, Tell Zim reports. According to the publication, details of how Marozva died are still sketchy at the moment:
<blockquote>Chief Marozva of Bikita born Philip Mudhe has died. A family member confirmed his death but could not give details on the circumstances surrounding his death. “We haven’t done a number of things that should be done when a chief dies yet,” said the family member</blockquote>
Children of Zimbabwe’s War Veterans Association paid tribute to the former senator and said he was one of their association’s benefactors:

Bikita's Chief Marozva Dies

Retired army general Lieutenant <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Engelbert_Rugeje">Engelbert Rugeje</a> has been nominated to act temporarily as Chief Charamba of Bikita following the death of his father, The Chronicle reports.
This was confirmed by Rugeje himself who spoke to the publication and said:
<blockquote>It is not that I have been appointed substantive chief because there are still many processes that have to be followed for one to be a substantive chief that will culminate with the seal of approval from the President.
At the moment what happened was in line with the Duma traditions and customs whereby after the death of a chief there is a person who is appointed to look after the late chief’s family and responsibilities. The family sat down and agreed that as the oldest surviving son I get the appointment but it’s not a final decision as there are many processes to follow</blockquote>
By virtue of him being the oldest surviving son of the late Chief Charamba who died on 16 July 2019, Rugeje was nominated acting Chief Charamba.

A belated Valentine’s Day held last Saturday at the Reformed Church of Zimbabwe (RCZ)-run Pamushana High School in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bikita" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Bikita</a> East, <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Masvingo</a> reportedly turned into a s_x orgy resembling the infamous vuzu parties.
Reports indicate that security guards discovered empty beer bottles and used condoms strewn all over school premises the following morning. A concerned parent told NewsDay:
<blockquote>Yesterday (Sunday), used condoms were seen all over the schoolyard, indicating that the school was turned into a brothel. The SDC chairman (Musimiki) visited the school and came face-to-face with the reality.
He saw used condoms all over the school and empty beer bottles and cans. The headmaster of the school was not at the school on the day in question.</blockquote>
Pamushana School Development Committee (SDC) chairperson Charles Musimiki is a former MDC MP and was controversially voted into the position.

A <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Bikita">Bikita</a> grade 5 pupil in a fit of rage struck his young cousin which resulted in the grade 3 pupil bleeding till he subsequently lost his life, New Ziana reports.
According to the publication:
<blockquote>The boy, a student at Zengeya Primary School, got annoyed that his young uncle, Abel Chiba, did not pass through his home to call him up to go to school together.
He angrily confronted Chiba in his classroom for an explanation and, after not getting a satisfactory answer, picked up an iron bar and struck him once on the forehead.
Chiba bled profusely from a deep cut he sustained, and later lost consciousness.
The school took the injured boy to nearby <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Silveira_Mission">Silveira Mission</a> Hospital from where he was later transfered to <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo_General_Hospital">Masvingo General Hospital</a> due to the severity of the injury.
Chiba succumbed to the injury a day later in Masvingo, leading the school to report the crime to police.</blockquote>

Bikita Grade 5 Pupil Fatally Strikes Another Student In A Fit Of Rage

MDC national vice-chairperson <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Job_Sikhala" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Job “Wiwa” Sikhala</a> said there are some people in his party who are celebrating his arrest and imminent trial over treason charges.
The combative Zengeza legislator told The Standard that it is foolhardy to expect everyone to mourn with you during a time of bereavement. Said Sikhala:

Sikhala is set to appear before the High Court in <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Masvingo" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Masvingo</a> this week after he was charged with subverting a constitutional government following his arrest in July 2019.
He was arrested after he allegedly threatened to “overthrow” President <a href="https://www.pindula.co.zw/Emmerson_Mnangagwa" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Emmerson Mnangagwa</a> before 2023 at a rally in Bikita.
Sikhala becomes the 21st person to have been charged with treason since Mnangagwa usurped power through a military-backed coup in November 2017.

The vice-chairperson of the opposition MDC, Job Sikhala has been indicted for trial on charges of plotting to remove president Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government from 27 to 31 January 2020 at Masvingo High Court, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) reports.

MDC vice-chairperson Job Sikhala on Monday appeared at the Bikita Magistrates Court and was remanded to 1 November 2019.
Sikhala is already out of bail on a treason charge he allegedly committed in July this year.

MDC Vice Chairperson, Job Sikhala Remanded To November 1st

One of the funds initiated by diaspora based Zimbabweans to help Cyclone Idai affected communities has funded the rebuilding of classroom blocks and toilet facilities for a number of schools in Chimanimani, Bikita and Chipinge.
The fund raised a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/zimbabwe-cyclone-relief?viewupdates">total of US $106,000 on an internet platform called GoFundMe</a> and it was led by <a href="https://twitter.com/freemanchari" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Freeman Chari</a>. Some of the money has been used to fund construction and reconstruction for the following schools:

<li>Ngangu Primary School (Chimanimani) – toilets</li>
<li>Tafara High School (Bikita) – toilets</li>

<li>Ndima Primary School (Chimanimani) – Water pipes to the school</li>
<li>Rimbi Classroom – Repair of classroom blocks</li>

MDC vice-chairperson Job Sikhala on Thursday narrated how police took him from Harare to Masvingo on Wednesday without the knowledge of his lawyers.
Sikhala was taken from Harare Central Police Station to Masvingo blindfolded and in leg irons and was denied food.
Speaking before Bikita magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa where he was charged with contravening section 22 (2) (a)(iii) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Sikhala said:
<blockquote>I was smuggled from Harare to Bikita. I was denied access to my lawyers and family when I was arrested on Tuesday at 8 am. As such, I did not eat anything and my first meal was today (this) morning.
I raised health issues with the police that I am hypertensive and asthmatic, but the police could not have any of that. I could not take my medication.
When I was supposed to go to court in Harare on Wednesday morning, which I consented to, the investigating officer disappeared, only to return at around 1 pm, handcuffed me and never told me where I was going.
We went to the car park at Harare Central Police Station where three cars – two twin cabs and a minibus were waiting for me with 12 men armed with guns.
I was bundled inside, put in leg irons and sandwiched by two armed men. They blindfolded me with a hood and sped off with me.
After driving for about two-and-half hours, according to my estimation, I could not breathe, and I told them and they only left space for my nose outside to breath. They denied me the chance to relieve myself.
I could not take it anymore and my head was boiling and I complained, that is when they removed the blindfold. It took me about 10 minutes to realise where we were and I saw a Zororo Lodge sign, then I knew we were near Gutu Growth Point.</blockquote>
Sikhala was denied bail and remanded in custody to July the 24th. He has since applied for bail at the Masvingo High Court.
