President Emmerson Mnangagwa has joined global leaders in congratulating Donald Trump on his victory in the US presidential election.
In a post on X, Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe is ready to work with Trump and the American people to create a better, more prosperous, and peaceful world. He wrote:

The world needs more leaders who speak for the people.
Zimbabwe stands ready to work with you and the American people to build a better, more prosperous and more peaceful world.

Following Donald Trump’s surprising political resurrection, several European leaders were quick to extend their congratulations and express their willingness to work with him in the future.
French President Emmanuel Macron was among the first to respond, saying he was “ready to work together” with Trump for a second term.
In Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky also congratulated Trump, highlighting his commitment to “peace through strength” — a philosophy Zelensky believes will help bring a “just peace” to Ukraine as the war with Russia continues.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte echoed Zelensky’s remarks, stressing that Trump’s leadership would be “key” as the world faces a growing number of global challenges.
Meanwhile, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised the “unshakeable alliance” between her country and the United States, adding that the bond would only “strengthen even further” under Trump’s leadership.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala expressed similar sentiments, emphasizing his desire to “ensure that the relations between our countries remain at the highest level” and to continue developing ties for the benefit of their citizens.

Mnangagwa Congratulates Donald Trump On US Election Win

Fanuel Cumanzala, the Member of Parliament for Binga South, has criticised the government for failing to extend connectivity to the national grid in Binga District, reported <a href="https://newsday.co.zw/southerneye/local/article/200034568/binga-not-benefiting-from-kariba-power">Southern Eye</a>.
Electricity is generated from Lake Kariba, which displaced the BaTonga people during its construction in the 1950s, yet the local people are not benefitting.
During a session in the National Assembly, the CCC MP challenged Energy and Power Development Minister Edgar Moyo to explain why his constituency is not benefiting from the lake, especially considering that the local community made sacrifices for its creation. He said:

May you please explain why Binga people are not enjoying the benefits of having the Lake Kariba Hydroelectric Power Station, considering that they paved way for the construction of the lake?
There are two issues here. The first issue is how Binga or the Zambezi combined communities are benefiting from the Zambezi River Authority initiative, that is the Zambezi River Development Fund, which is appreciated, but I wish the minister could indicate where some of those projects that he mentioned are located in those specific districts.
I am very familiar with Hurungwe, Kariba, Binga and Hwange. Then the second issue has to do with power supply itself.

Cumanzala said Binga has not benefited from the electricity generated at Lake Kariba for many years. He claimed that power lines were erected in areas like Lusulu and Chapuwa a decade ago; however, these lines have never been operational since their construction. He said:
<blockquote>
The poles are down, the copper cables are down. It is fortunate that most of our people do not steal, should I say otherwise, they could have vandalised the poles and stolen the copper lines, but they have been down for a long time now.
Maybe the minister could explain why they have been down for this long and what plans are in place to make sure that those areas are covered by electricity because this is where the majority of the schools are.
This is where the majority of the population lives. The clinics which are in those areas have no electricity. The schools have no electricity.
</blockquote>
In response, Moyo told Parliament that the Zambezi River Authority established the Zambezi Valley Development Fund in 1997. 
He said the fund aims to finance sustainable infrastructure and development projects to mitigate the impact of the displacement of the Tonga and Kore Kore people on both sides of the Zambezi River in Zambia and Zimbabwe. Said Moyo:

These are the communities which were displaced during the construction of Kariba Dam. The Zambezi Valley Development Fund has funded various infrastructural and developmental projects which include the procurement and restoration of grinding mills, sinking of boreholes, and construction of schools and houses for support staff in respective project sites, among other things.

He said some of the projects had been implemented in Binga, Hurungwe, Gokwe North and Kariba districts. Moyo said:
<blockquote>
Projects completed under the Siabuwa line include four chiefs’ homesteads, four clinics, 11 primary schools, five secondary schools, two business centres and the Transport ministry houses.
However, the Siabuwa line has been down for a long time and repairs could not be done due to financial constraints at ZETDC [Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company] to secure materials, labour and transport.
Despite these constraints, ZETDC has been working on these lines and to date has covered about 20km of the estimated 60km line.
ZETDC has seen improvement in resources availability and expect to finish the line by end of December 2024.

In Binga District, the MP is unhappy because they don't have electricity from Lake Kariba. He asked the Minister why. The Minister said the Zambezi Valley Development Fund is helping. Binga District should have electricity, but the power lines are broken. The Minister said they will fix them by December 2024. The Fund has helped with projects like schools and clinics. The MP wants answers and the community wants electricity. Hopefully, they will get it soon.

Binga District Left In The Dark, Says MP

Zimbabwe is set to host an Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government in Harare next week.
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa is the current SADC chairperson.
The Summit will discuss general elections in Mozambique and Botswana on October 9, and October 30, respectively, as well as the Namibian elections slated for November 27.
Speaking at a post-cabinet briefing in Harare on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Jenfan Muswere said:

The nation is informed that an Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government is scheduled to be held in Harare from 16th to 20th November 2024, primarily to address emerging issues of regional significance.
The summit is expected to be briefed on political events in the region, including the recent elections in Mozambique and Botswana and upcoming polls in Namibia.

Violence has erupted in Mozambique following the disputed elections on October 9, which saw the ruling FRELIMO party, led by Daniel Chapo, declared the winner.
In the wake of the election, lawyer Elvino Dias, who represented presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, was shot dead in the capital, Maputo, along with an opposition politician, Paulo Guambe.
Mondlane has since fled to South Africa, claiming he narrowly escaped an assassination attempt.
According to Human Rights Watch, at least 11 people have been killed by security forces during ongoing protests against the election results, with an additional 50 individuals suffering serious gunshot wounds.
Protests continue in various parts of Mozambique, and tensions across the country remain high.

Zimbabwe will have an emergency meeting for SADC leaders. The meeting will talk about recent elections in Mozambique, Botswana, and Namibia. There has been violence in Mozambique after the election. Some people have been killed or hurt during protests. An opposition politician was shot dead. The meeting will try to address these issues and find a solution. A lawyer who represented a presidential candidate also died in the violence. The meeting will happen in Harare next week.

SADC To Hold Emergency Summit In Harare

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged the British government to return the remains of Chimurenga war heroes for dignified interment.
Among those whose remains are sought are prominent figures from the First Chimurenga, including Mbuya Nehanda, Sekuru Kaguvi, and other leaders of uprisings against colonial rule, such as Chief Makoni Chingaira, Chief Mapondera, and Chief Chinengundu Mashayamombe. The remains are believed to have been taken to Britain as war trophies and are currently used for research.
In 2022, both London’s Natural History Museum and Cambridge University expressed their willingness to cooperate with Zimbabwe in repatriating these human remains.
During his remarks at the funeral of the late hero Jaison William Chezhira Chakaipa Chirinda on Monday, Mnangagwa said the spirits of these late 19th-century anti-colonial heroes will not find peace until their remains are returned and properly buried. Said Mnangagwa:

We remind the British Government and people that the spirits of our heroes will not rest until their remains are repatriated and interred in a dignified manner.
Going forward, we urge the British Government to return the remains of our people to Zimbabwe.

Last week Mnangagwa demanded an apology from the British Government for a century of colonial rule that dispossessed indigenous people of their land and subjected them to various forms of abuse.
He also demanded reparations and restitution for the exploitation of Zimbabwe during the colonial period, which lasted from 1890 to 1980.

Zimbabwe's President, Mnangagwa, wants Britain to give back the remains of important Chimurenga heroes for proper burial. These heroes fought against colonial rule in the past. Some remains are at British museums for research. London's Natural History Museum and Cambridge University are willing to help return the remains. Mnangagwa says the heroes' spirits won't be at peace until they're buried in Zimbabwe. He also asked Britain to say sorry for the harm caused during the colonial period from 1890 to 1980 and give back what was taken.

Mnangagwa Calls For Return Of Chimurenga Heroes' Remains From Britain

The government has enlisted the army and the President’s Department to support the police in evicting illegal settlers from farms, reported <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/local-news/article/200034602/army-to-evict-land-invaders">NewsDay</a>.
This came out in the National Assembly last Thursday when Murewa South MP Noah Mangondo (ZANU PF) raised concerns about the proliferation of illegal settlements on A1 and A2 farms. Said Mangondo:

My question is: What is being done by the government to ensure that the issue of illegal settlements ends, especially since all these government departments are failing to resolve this issue?
</blockquote>
In response, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Anxious Masuka said farmers should report the invaders to law enforcement agencies. He said:
<blockquote>
If you go to the Lands office requesting them to come and evict the person who has settled on a farm unlawfully, you are approaching the wrong office. The police department has to sue those illegal settlers.
Hence, there is a need for people to go and report to the police that there are people who are illegally settling themselves so that police officers go and arrest them.
The land inspectorate section is another department under the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development ministry that ensures the job is being done properly.
</blockquote>
Masuka said that some land invaders have been threatening land officers during their visits to the farms. As a result, the army has been called in to assist the police with the eviction of these invaders. Said Masuka:
<blockquote>
We have four groups working in the Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development ministry. We have also engaged the Zimbabwe National Army, Air Force, ZRP, the President’s Department and Prisons to have a joint operation command to help the honourable minister to make sure that the lands officer is able to reach the place where the illegal settlers are settled.
Persons who illegally settle themselves are breaching the law and they must be arrested.
We have now engaged the Surveyor-General to mark boundaries.
</blockquote>
Despite the government’s implementation of a comprehensive land reform programme around 2000, hundreds of thousands of Zimbabwean families remain landless. Reports indicate that large tracts of land have been allocated to a small group of politically connected individuals and their relatives.

The army is helping police to remove illegal settlers from farms. People are settling on farms illegally, worrying politicians. The government wants farmers to report illegal settlers to the police. Some settlers are threatening officials. The army is helping to remove the settlers. The government gave land to some people after 2000. But many families in Zimbabwe still don't have land. The land was mostly given to a small group of connected people and their relatives.

Government Enlists Army To Assist Police In Farm Evictions

The City of Harare has suspended eight municipal police officers over allegations of misconduct inconsistent with their prescribed duties.
According to the local authority’s Corporate Communications Manager, Stanley Gama, the suspended employees were involved in corrupt activities.
On October 21, 2024, at Reliance Mall in Harare’s CBD, patrol officers Takudzwa Majachani and Sipiwe Matavire, who are part of the Environmental Patrolwomen Unit, allegedly masqueraded as police officers tasked with shop licensing duties, despite not being authorized to do so. They demanded shop licenses from a shop owner at the mall, actions that were clearly outside their remit.
On the same day, at Superbrite Soap Manufacturing Company in Workington, patrolmen Taurai Guregure, Hebert Mukumba, Tonderai Nyikadzino, and Douglas Nyemba also posed as police officers responsible for shop licensing. They were intercepted by a team of investigators and found in possession of four dozen bars of soap that they had allegedly extorted from the company.
On October 24, 2024, at 80 Lorraine Drive in Mabelreign, council employees Ignatius Pesvani and Newman Mhereyenyoka, under the Harare Water Department, similarly pretended to be police officers on licensing duties. They demanded shop licenses from Kartoque Company but were arrested by members of the public and handed over to the ZRP Mabelreign Police Station.
On October 26, parking supervisors Mapfumo and Muringisi were reported for arresting a motorist for parking over the lines. They allegedly demanded a bribe of USD $20 in exchange for letting the motorist go. When the bribe was handed over, they disembarked from the car they had initially boarded with the intent of taking it to Central Stores for impounding.
Gama said the City of Harare does not tolerate corruption and urged residents to report any suspicious actions by council officials.

The city of Harare suspended eight police officers for acting corruptly while on duty. Some pretended to be officers in charge of shop licensing and demanded bribes. Others were found with items they had extorted from a company. The city manager said they do not allow corruption and asked people to report any suspicious behavior from city officials.

The City of Harare will shut down Morton Jaffray and Warren Control Waterworks on Thursday and Friday this week for routine maintenance, leading to interruptions in water supply in some parts of the city.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, November 5, Harare Acting Town Clerk Phakamile Mabhena Moyo said the shutdown will facilitate scouring and necessary repairs of the main line at various chambers from Morton Jaffray, as well as the interconnector from Warren to Alex. Reads the statement:

Please be advised that there will be a shutdown of both Morton Jaffray and Warren Control Waterworks from 1200hrs on Thursday 7 November 2024 to 1800hrs on Friday 08 November 2024.
This will allow for scouring and subsequent repairs of the main line at various chambers from Morton Jaffray as well as the Warren to Alex interconnector.
During this time all suburbs will be affected except for parts of the Western high density suburbs (Glen View, Budiriro, parts of Kuwadzana, Mufakose etc).
We therefore encourage consumers to use water sparingly during this time and would like to offer our sincere apologies for any inconveniences that may arise.

Harare Shuts Down Morton Jaffray And Warren Waterworks For Routine Maintenance

Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, announced that the company is working swiftly to increase Starlink’s internet capacity in dense urban areas in Africa.
This decision comes in response to the temporary halt of new Starlink sign-ups in several African urban centres due to overwhelming demand.
Starlink reported that these regions had reached network capacity, leading to the suspension of new user registrations.
Musk said African users residing outside city centres can still sign up for the service, as there is significant capacity available in these areas. Musk wrote on X:

Starlink is working to increase Internet capacity in dense urban areas in Africa as fast as possible.
Please note that there is still significant capacity outside of city centers.

This development comes as Starlink’s residential service has sold out in Bulawayo, just a week after the internet service provider announced that the city centre and surrounding areas had reached full capacity.
Harare reached capacity a few weeks ago for the SpaceX product, and Bulawayo follows suit as users seek what they consider an affordable and fast internet connection.
According to the Starlink map on its website, Bulawayo is now marked as sold out. This designation indicates that the internet service capacity has been fully utilised in specific areas, particularly in densely populated cities.
As a result, customers can place orders but will enter a queue until the capacity for the low-orbit satellites can be increased.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk has not provided a specific timeline for when this increased capacity will be available.

Elon Musk is working to make Starlink internet better in African cities because many people want to sign up for it but there is not enough space. People who live outside the cities can still sign up because there is more space there. The service has already sold out in some cities like Bulawayo. People can still order it, but they will have to wait until more space is available. Elon Musk has not said when this will happen.

Elon Musk Pledges To Boost Starlink Capacity In African Cities Amid Soaring Demand

The City of Bulawayo has begun implementing its Public Transport Policy, which had been postponed due to the outbreak of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
In a statement released on Tuesday, November 5, Bulawayo Town Clerk Christopher Dube said the policy was originally approved by the Council on October 3, 2012.
He said the primary objective of the Public Transport Policy is to establish a safe and efficient public transportation system for the residents of Bulawayo. Said Dube:

The formulation of the Policy involved consultation with the Public Transport Operators, Commuters and other key stakeholders.
One of the major components of the Policy was the signing of Service Level Agreements with Transport Operator Companies operating in the City.
However, the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and suspension of operations by independent Public Transport Operators in March 2020, delayed the signing of the agreements.
With the lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and the resumptions of operation by Public Transport Operators, the implementation of the Policy has gone back on track and the City of Bulawayo signed Service Level Agreements with Public Transport Companies on Friday, 18th of October 2024.

The public transport companies that have been approved and are recognized by the City of Bulawayo are Bulawayo City Transit Trust, BUPTA Limited, Bulawayo West Transporters Private Limited, Tshova Mubaiwa Transport Co-Operative Company (Private) Limited, and VUTA Taxies (Private) Limited.
The City of Bulawayo has since advised the public transport companies to take up their positions at the respective termini to enable servicing of their designated service areas.

The City of Bulawayo is finally starting to put their Public Transport Policy in place after delays from the COVID-19 pandemic. The policy aims to make transportation safe and efficient for residents. The City has made agreements with different transport companies to provide services. Now that COVID-19 restrictions are lifted, the policy is back on track. Approved transport companies like Bulawayo City Transit Trust and others are ready to start operating. The City is telling them to go to their assigned spots to start providing services to the residents.

Long-Awaited Public Transport Policy Takes Effect In Bulawayo

Two people were killed and five others injured when a bus collided with a kombi on Sunday evening, 16 kilometres outside Gwanda along the Bulawayo-Gwanda Road.
Inspector Loveness Mangena, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Matabeleland South Province, confirmed the incident to <a href="https://www.chronicle.co.zw/two-die-in-kombi-and-bus-head-on-collision-along-bulawayo-gwanda-road/">Chronicle</a>.
She said that the bus, which was travelling from Bulawayo to Gwanda, was following a Nissan Liberty when the driver suddenly applied the emergency brakes to avoid hitting a group of donkeys.
To avoid crashing into the Nissan Liberty, the bus driver swerved into the lane of oncoming traffic, resulting in a collision with a kombi that was travelling from Gwanda to Bulawayo. Said Inspector Mangena:

I can confirm that we recorded a fatal road accident where two females died. Two people who were in the kombi died while five others were injured.
</blockquote>
A recent report claims that transport operators in Zimbabwe are losing an average of 300 buses per year due to road traffic accidents.

Two people died in a crash between a bus and a kombi in Gwanda. The bus tried to avoid hitting donkeys and swerved into oncoming traffic, hitting the kombi. Two people in the kombi died and five were injured. This is a big problem in Zimbabwe, with 300 buses being lost each year in accidents. So, it's important for drivers to be careful on the road.

Zimbabwe has engaged the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to explore the potential for establishing nuclear power plants in the country.
Despite having significant coal deposits, Zimbabwe has struggled to meet its growing electricity demands due to a lack of investment in thermal power stations over the years.
The nation has been heavily reliant on the Kariba Hydro Power Plant, which has an installed capacity of 1,050 MW.
However, power generation at the Kariba plant has been severely limited by recurrent droughts that have affected water levels.
During a recent Question and Answer session in the National Assembly, Energy and Power Development Minister Edgar Moyo said that the government is engaging the IAEA to explore prospects of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) is implementing a strict no-mobile-phone policy for officers on duty, permitting cellphone usage only during breaks and lunch periods.
In a memorandum dated October 31, 2024, addressed to all stations in Masvingo Central District, the Officer Commanding expressed concern that, despite repeated directives prohibiting cellphone use while on duty, many commanders have failed to enforce this policy effectively. Reads the memo:

With immediate effect, no member is allowed to be in possession of a cellphone whilst on duty. Cellphones should only be used during break and lunch times.
Once a member is found with a cellphone whilst on duty, the Officer in- Charge of the said member will be put to task.
Upon commencement of duty, the Officer in-Charge should take possession of the cell phones and lock them in the safe or cabinet.
All stations standard operation procedures should contain a clause governing the use of cell phones whilst on duty and members should acknowledge having read and understood the SOPs.

Several people are feared dead, and others seriously injured after a South African-bound bus was involved in a head-on collision with a commuter omnibus along the Bulawayo-Beitbridge highway in Gwanda on Sunday evening.
Eyewitnesses who spoke to ZBC News said that the bus veered into the lane of an oncoming kombi travelling from Gwanda to Bulawayo, resulting in the devastating collision.
The police and the fire brigade quickly arrived at the scene to extricate trapped bodies from the wreckage of the commuter omnibus. The injured were transported to Gwanda Provincial Hospital for treatment.
As of midday on Monday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police had not yet released an official statement regarding the accident.

Zimbabweans should prepare for increased load shedding as the festive season approaches, due to the frequent breakdowns of ageing equipment in units one to six at Hwange Thermal Power Station.
The situation is expected to worsen with the onset of the rainy season, leading to an increase in electrical faults.
During a Question and Answer session in the National Assembly on Wednesday, Energy and Power Development Minister Edgar Moyo told lawmakers that the planned repowering of the old units at Hwange, starting in 2025, along with a requirement for ferrochrome smelters to generate their power, will help mitigate the country’s power shortages. Moyo said the drought experienced during the 2023-24 summer season has resulted in low water levels in Kariba Dam. He said:

Understandably so, we have been affected by the drought, Lake Kariba is a very critical asset in the power production process because that is the area where we use to balance power.
It is where we are able to ramp up production of supply or reduce it so that we can maintain a balance in the power supply. So, the issue of drought has really affected us and the impact is high.
However, to reduce the impact and to ensure that we supply those areas that cannot supply themselves, we have asked ferrochrome smelters to develop their own generation so that by the end of 2025, they will be able to supply themselves.

On November 1, 2024, the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA) reported that the usable live storage at Lake Kariba—water available for power generation—had declined to 2.89 billion cubic meters (BCM), representing just 4.46% of capacity. Zimbabwe and Zambia, through the Zambezi River Authority (ZRA), have initiated feasibility studies for installing floating solar systems at Kariba Dam.
This comes as the dam’s capacity to generate electricity from its hydroelectric plants has been declining due to recurring droughts blamed on climate change.
Last week, Energy and Power Development Minister Edgar Moyo told the National Assembly (Lower House of Parliament) that the ongoing study is being conducted with support from the African Development Bank. He said:

We have commissioned a study which is being financed by AfDB to look at the viability of floating solar systems on Lake Kariba.

A grieving family reportedly left their relative’s coffin at an Ecosure branch in Rusape on Saturday, November 2, after the funeral, as the company refused to cover the funeral costs.
Reports indicate that the claim was denied because the deceased had missed a US$4 payment in the month of their passing.
Ecosure, a funeral service provider underwritten by Econet Life, a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, faced criticism for its handling of the situation.
In a statement, Ecosure acknowledged that there were administrative delays encountered by the bereaved family at its Rusape outlet but did not provide further details.
The company said the matter was resolved amicably, adding that it is reviewing the incident to identify and address any gaps in the premium payments and claims process. Reads the statement:

Hwange Thermal Power Station’s Unit 7 was reconnected to the national grid on Friday after completing Class C maintenance.
This reconnection restores the 300 megawatts (MW) lost during the past month of statutory maintenance.
During Unit 7’s downtime, Unit 8 served as the primary source of electricity from Hwange. The reduced output from Hwange, coupled with low generation at the Kariba South Power Station, resulted in extensive load-shedding across the country.
Class C maintenance, involving routine inspections and minor repairs during planned outages, is essential for ensuring the plant’s efficient operation. 
This maintenance helps identify and address potential issues before they lead to major failures or unplanned outages.
Energy and Power Development Minister Edgar Moyo expects a reduction in load-shedding as both Units 7 and 8 are now operational, providing more stability in the lead-up to the festive season. He told State media:

I understand that Unit 7, which has been off the grid for the past few weeks, will be reintroduced on the grid today (Friday).
This means we expect load-shedding to ease as we head into the festive season. Unit 8 will have its Class C maintenance in January or February next year.
This means there will be reduced load-shedding over the next two months.

Last Friday, Zimbabwe’s power generation stood at approximately 866MW: Hwange contributed 639MW, Kariba 184MW, and independent power producers 43MW. However, with the nation’s peak demand at 1,800MW, this leaves a significant shortfall.
The Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC) is refurbishing six older units at Hwange using a US$300 million loan facility from the Export-Import Bank of India.

Prominent Zimbabwean historian, cultural activist, and educationist Pathisa Nyathi has died at the age of 73.
Nyathi passed away on Saturday, 02 November, in a local private hospital after a long battle with diabetes.
His son, Butholezwe Kgosi Nyathi, confirmed his father’s passing to <a href="https://www.sundaynews.co.zw/historian-pathisa-nyathi-dies/">The Sunday News</a>. He said:

We are just processing the news now as a family but our initial reaction is that of sadness. However, we have to acknowledge that he has not been well for a while now and there’s some relief that he is resting now because he was in pain for a long time.
As the surviving family members we are in grief because he was a figure that occupied a very pivotal role in our lives and we will dearly miss him.
Of course, the outside world regarded him highly but to us, he was just a father like any other. The overwhelming feeling we have right now is one of gratitude because he was there for us through thick and thin.
When a man is there for you from your childhood right until you reach your adulthood, you have to thank him because it just shows the unwavering dedication that he had for his own family.

Pathisa Nyathi was born in Sankonjana, Kezi, and completed his primary education at Sankonjana School and secondary education at Mazowe Secondary School in Mashonaland Central.
Despite his early interest in writing, Nyathi did not initially consider himself a writer, though he has written many books and is regarded as an isiNdebele expert, despite only studying ChiShona.
After finishing A-levels, he chose to study science instead of arts or languages.
Nyathi trained as a science teacher in 1970 and earned his first degree in Geography from the University of South Africa in 1983, followed by a second degree in 1985.
He co-founded the Mthwakazi Writers and Actors Association with Felix Moyo and Mthandazo Ndema Ngwenya.

Zimbabwean Historian, Pathisa Nyathi Has Died

Zimbabwe’s civil servants will receive their 2024 annual bonuses in staggered payments. The first instalment, amounting to 50 per cent of the total bonus, will be paid alongside November salaries, while the remainder will be disbursed in December.
The payment process will begin with workers in the security services, followed by those in the health sector, education, and the rest of the civil service.
As in 2023, traditional leaders and their messengers will also receive annual bonuses.
In an interview with <a href="https://www.sundaymail.co.zw/staggered-bonuses-for-civil-servants">The Sunday Mail</a>, Cecilia Alexander, chairperson of the Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions, confirmed that the government has committed to paying the bonuses in instalments. She said:

The first 50 percent will come with the November salary and the remainder will be paid in December.

A Gold Class bus travelling from Harare to Rusape, carrying 53 students and seven staff members from Chipinge Junior Primary School, was involved in an accident on Friday afternoon along the Harare-Mutare Road.
According to a statement from Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the bus driver lost control while attempting to overtake a haulage truck at the 165 km peg. The bus veered off the road to the right, overturned, and came to rest on its left side.
Tragically, one female adult died at the scene, while twenty-five students and six adults sustained injuries and were transported to Rusape General Hospital for treatment. Said Commissioner Nyathi:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports a fatal road traffic accident which occurred on 01st November 2024 at around 1345 hours, involving a Gold Class bus which was travelling from Harare to Rusape carrying 53 students and seven school staff members from Chipinge Junior Primary School.
On approaching the 165 km peg along Harare-Mutare Road, the driver tried to overtake a haulage truck, due to speeding, he lost control of the bus.

This issue was raised in the National Assembly by Rushinga MP Tendai Nyabani (ZANU PF) on Thursday, who said parliamentarians have been reduced to a state of begging as they struggle to receive their rightful dues. Said Nyabani:

We must not be begging as Members of Parliament. If we were promised to be given something, then it must come right on time.
For example, if we are getting travelling allowances, and fuel, I cannot remember when we last received those allowances.

Nyabani also disclosed that MPs have not received their Constituency Development Funds (CDF), which are essential for advancing various programmes in their communities. He said:

Marondera Central MP Caston Matewu (CCC) said legislators have begun to abscond from Parliament due to not receiving any payments since January of this year. Said Matewu:

I want to stress that it has been nine months since we got our allowances. I am not sure about you (deputy speaker) but the Members of Parliament in this House have had nine months without any allowance.
That is why you see this House is half empty. It is half empty because sometimes most of us are now going into business, which is really killing the work of this parliament because we need to survive and our families also need to survive.

Deputy Speaker Tsitsi Gezi opted to postpone her response to allow for consultation with the appropriate offices. She said:

Government Fails To Pay Allowances To MPs For Nine Months

Tragedy struck at Sakubva Bus Terminus in Mutare on Thursday evening when a Nissan UD lorry, loaded with beer, lost control, resulting in two fatalities and four injuries.
According to Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the driver was attempting to park the vehicle to deliver beer to a nearby bottle store when disaster struck.
The lorry’s brakes failed, causing the steering wheel to lock and the truck to gain speed as it veered into the bus terminus, ultimately crashing into the boom gate. Said Commissioner Nyathi:

The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms a fatal road traffic accident which occurred at Sakubva Bus Terminus, Mutare on 31st October 2024 at around 1700 hours in which two people were killed while four others were injured when a Nissan UD lorry, which was carrying beer, lost control, swerved to the left, overturned and landed on its right side.
Investigations by the police have established that the driver intended to deliver beer at a bottle store near Sakubva Bus Terminus when he tried to park the vehicle.
The vehicle lost brakes, locked the steering wheel and gathered momentum into the bus terminus where it rammed into the boom gate.
Resultantly, six vendors were hit by the lorry while three vehicles were rammed into. Two people died on the spot while four others were injured.
The bodies of the two victims were ferried to Victoria Chitepo Hospital mortuary for post-mortem while the injured were admitted at the same hospital.

A big truck crashed at a bus stop, hurting and killing people. The truck was carrying beer and the driver lost control. Two people died, and four got hurt. The police are looking into what happened. Two Killed As Lorry Ploughs Into Vendors At Sakubva Bus Terminus

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga said that Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Elson Moyo is in stable condition and receiving medical care at a hospital in Harare following a road accident near Chegutu earlier this week.
Chiwenga visited the former Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) on Friday to assess his condition and convey his best wishes.
Speaking to <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/rtd-air-chief-marshal-moyo-in-stable-condition/">The Herald</a> afterwards, Chiwenga, himself a retired Army General, said the Government is confident in his recovery and remains committed to supporting him, while he recuperates from the injuries. He said:

Air Chief Marshal (Rtd) Elson Moyo was a colleague and is a colleague, when he got involved in an accident from his farm it was of great concern and we wanted to see how his condition was.
He was airlifted to Manyame Air Base and then to the hospital for specialist medical care. I visited him at the hospital because I wanted to be satisfied that he was in good condition.
We were quite concerned when we got the news that he was involved in that accident, only to find out that yes, there are areas here and there where he has pain, but mostly they are muscle pains, but generally he is fine.
We think when the doctors do their final check-up, they will be able to tell that he is now fine, but when we saw him, he was in very good morale and soon he will be discharged.

Chiwenga revealed that Moyo is one of the first qualified group of fighter jet pilots who were deployed to the AFZ after independence. He said:

We have worked together for a long time since the time of our struggle for the independence of our country and then from 1980 as you would know, he was a trained pilot.
He was one of our first group of jet (fighter) pilots, even when we went for the Mozambique campaign.

A leaked internal memorandum from a district intelligence officer in Chegutu reveals that a 67-year-old Moyo was involved in a car accident on October 29 at around 3 PM.
While driving alone, he failed to negotiate a curve, causing his vehicle to veer off the road to the right.
The car then struck a tree before coming to a stop. As a result of the incident, he started experiencing pain in his right hip and shoulder. Reads the memo:

On the 29th day of October 2024, 1500hours and at 10 kilometre peg along Chegutu-Pickstone Road, Chegutu (Oldham Farm), the sole party, Retired Chief Air Marshal Elson Moyo (former commander of Air Force of Zimbabwe) aged 67 of Concession Hill Farm, Chegutu was driving a silver Toyota Hilux double cab registration number AES3454 in the dust road from his farm towards Chegutu.
Upon reaching the 10km peg, he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle veered off the road to the right, hit a tree and landed on its wheels.
The sole party did not sustain any visible injuries but was complaining of a painful right hip and shoulder.
He was taken to Chegutu District Hospital by a well-wisher, where he was airlifted to Harare by Air Ambulance (helicopter). His condition is stable.

The top-of-the-range car involved in the accident had its front right wheel dislodged, along with damage to the right headlamp and front fender.

Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Elson Moyo had a road accident but is in stable condition and getting medical help in Harare. Vice President Chiwenga visited him and said he's doing well. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) on Friday, 01 November, reviewed upward transactional limits for payments made via mobile money and electronic funds transfer platforms.
In a statement, the RBZ said the review of transactional limits was in line with the movements in the official rate and meant to support the payment of goods and services in the ZiG. Said the central bank:

The RBZ doubled the transaction limit for person-to-person (P2P), person-to-business (P2B), and ZIPIT from ZiG2 400 to ZiG4 800. The monthly limit for all three types of transfers/payments is now capped at ZiG16 000, up from ZiG8 000.
The RBZ also reviewed electronic fund transfer limits. The business-to-business (trade payment batches) limit was set at ZiG560 000, up from ZiG280 000, whereas the transaction limit was set at ZiG48 000, up from ZiG24 000.
For the business-to-person transactions, the batch limit was set at ZiG160 000, up from ZiG80 000, while the transaction limit was raised to ZiG16 000 from ZiG8 000. Added the central bank:

On September 27, the central bank devalued the ZiG by 43%, responding to a significant widening of the gap between official and unofficial exchange rates.
The new rate set the ZiG at 1:23.4 against the US dollar, a decline from the previous rate of 1:14.1.
Since that devaluation, the ZiG has continued to weaken against the US dollar. As of Friday, November 1, the official exchange rate stood at 1:28.68.

Police have released the names of the seven victims of the tragic road traffic accident in Kuwadzana, which occurred just before sunrise on Thursday.
A Toyota Hiace kombi collided with a fuel tanker along the Harare-Bulawayo Road at the Kuwadzana 7 turn-off, resulting in the fatalities.
Commissioner Paul Nyathi, spokesperson for the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), on Friday said the victims were identified by their next of kin as follows:

Commissioner Nyathi implored public service vehicle operators to observe all road rules and regulations when travelling on the country’s roads to safeguard lives and for motorists to exercise caution and practice good driving conduct to promote road safety.

Police Release Names Of Kuwadzana Accident Victims

An aloe vera concoction that claimed the lives of four men from Chiadzwa this week was prepared for one of the victims who sought to “cleanse the system” before meeting his second wife. The mixture, commonly known as guchu, is touted as an aphrodisiac.
According to <a href="https://www.manicapost.co.zw/sip-of-death-claims-4-lives/">The Manica Post</a>, disaster struck last Sunday when six men consumed the concoction, believing it would detoxify their bodies and enhance their sexual performance.
Tragically, four of them succumbed to the effects, while two others, Munyaradzi Mutande (25) and Jacob Matambo (27), are currently fighting for their lives at Mutambara Mission Hospital.
Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Joseph Myambo (45), Robert Muchawaya (28), Brighton Gwenzi Chibhoso (27), and Kudakwashe Marambire (44). They were pronounced dead upon arrival at Chiadzwa Clinic.
One of the deceased’s friends, Simbarashe Mutepfa, told The Manica Post that the concoction was specifically intended to prepare Myambo for his upcoming encounter with his second wife, who was scheduled to visit him on Monday. Said Mutepfa:

Myambo told us that he wanted to cleanse his body and enhance his performance ahead of his second’s wife visit. He even telephoned her in our presence, telling her that he would be ready for her.
That is when he prepared the concoction, which unfortunately led to the unintended fatal consequences.
</blockquote>
Mutepfa said he also narrowly escaped death together with Obert Tavarwisa, adding that they were lucky to delay sipping the concoction as they were on cooking duty. Said Mutepfa:

We would otherwise have perished with the other guys, but the cooking duty saved us. We told them that we would take the concoction after finishing preparing supper.
The moment I was about to take it, our colleagues who had taken it prior started complaining of abdominal pains, writhing in agony.
At first, they were laughing as if they were high on drugs, but their condition deteriorated quickly.
They bitterly complained of weak joints. They struggled to talk, saying it felt like there was a force pressing down on their cheekbones.

Apart from Mutepfa and Tavarwisa, four other men were also supposed to consume the concoction but were spared by sheer luck and timing.
Tavarwisa revealed that Myambo was the mastermind behind the mixture, confidently claiming it would cleanse and detoxify the body while enhancing sexual performance.
He explained that Myambo had recently arrived in Chiadzwa, presenting himself as a herbalist with extensive knowledge of men’s health. However, it remains unclear how he concocted this inherently poisonous mixture. Said Tavarwisa:

He arrived last week, masquerading as one of the best herbalists in the country, capable of fixing erectile dysfunction (ED) in men and rekindling their potency.
On the fateful day, he went out alone to collect the ingredients. There was aloe vera and another plant I did not recognise, which he chopped into pieces, boiled and drank to prove its safety.
After about five minutes, the six started complaining of abdominal and general body discomfort. Matambo, who had arrived late and saw the other guys writhing in agony, also took the concoction, thinking the pain was a sign of its effectiveness.
Mutande quickly realised that something was wrong and asked for water, which he drank in large amounts. He also induced himself to vomit, which saved him and Matambo.
But for Myambo, it was too late as he was the first to drink, and by the time the others started reacting, his condition had rapidly deteriorated.

The late Muchawaya reportedly refused to drink water despite being advised to do so.
Precious Masuka, the owner of the homestead where the fatal incident occurred, expressed her frustration over accusations from the Myambo family alleging her involvement in his death.
In the aftermath, Joseph Myambo left behind a pregnant wife and three children, while Kudakwashe Marambire also left a wife and three children to mourn their loss.
There are over 400 species of aloe, but three—aloe ballyi, aloe elata, and aloe ruspoliana—are known to be poisonous. It remains unclear whether the plant used in the concoction was inherently toxic or if a poisonous substance was added to it.
George Kandiero, president of the Zimbabwe National Traditional Healers Association (ZINATHA), said that while traditional medicine can be effective, it requires careful knowledge and diligence in both preparation and consumption.

Victim Of Aloe Vera Concoction Sought To "Cleanse The System" Before Meeting His Second Wife

The Harare Wetlands Trust (HWT) has raised alarm about the increasing destruction of the city’s wetlands.
HWT warns that this unchecked degradation poses significant risks to both the environment and public health.
In an interview with the <a href="https://www.theindependent.co.zw/local-news/article/200034369/harare-trust-raises-alarm-over-wetland-destruction">Zimbabwe Independent</a>, Selestino Chari, the HWT’s programmes manager, described the situation as “alarming.” Said Chari:

We are working tirelessly to challenge all developments taking place on wetlands. Our goal is to secure a ministerial directive that prohibits such activities and compels the City of Harare to cease leasing and selling stands located on wetlands.
As Harare Wetlands Trust, we are worried about the destruction of wetlands in Harare as a whole because it is now alarming.
In as much as we want preservation of wetlands, we also want to petition the government to intervene with corrective measures.
Either compensation or any other remedy is critical for addressing the issue of wetlands as there is a competition between environmental rights and property rights.

According to a 2020 study, Harare’s remaining wetlands span approximately 18,328 hectares, accounting for about 21% of the city’s total land area—a significant reduction from their original extent.
An analysis of Google Earth imagery covering 10 wetlands across the city from 2007/2008 (the earliest date with consistent coverage) to 2019 revealed a mean decline in wetland area of 50% over these 11 years.
HWT, in collaboration with Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), is pursuing legal action against developments affecting wetlands and reviewing the status of privately owned wetlands.
They have submitted a petition urging immediate action to convert certain land zoned for development back into public open spaces, particularly targeting headwater wetlands that are vital for water supply.
Wetlands are areas of land that are saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally, resulting in distinct ecosystems.
They help filter pollutants and improve water quality, absorb excess rainwater, reduce the impact of floods, and sequester carbon, helping mitigate climate change.

Harare Wetlands Trust Raises Alarm Over Wetlands Destruction

The government has issued 11,000 title deeds in Harare’s sprawling Epworth suburb since 2023, as part of an initiative to regularise informal settlements throughout the country, a Cabinet Minister has said.
In the lead-up to the August 2023 general elections, the ruling ZANU PF party committed to regularising over 80,000 illegal settlements where tenants faced the risk of having their homes demolished.
To support this effort, the Cabinet endorsed the Kwangu/Ngakwami Presidential Title Deeds Programme Consortium, which aims to provide the necessary financial and technical assistance for the issuance of these titles.
On Wednesday, during a session in the National Assembly, Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development Minister Anxious Masuka, who was acting as the leader of government business in Parliament, addressed parliamentarians regarding the progress made in the regularisation exercise. "11 000 Epworth Residents Receive Title Deeds"

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has urged the British Government to issue an apology to Zimbabwe for a century of colonial rule that dispossessed indigenous people of their land and subjected them to various forms of abuse.
He also demanded reparations and restitution for the exploitation of Zimbabwe during the colonial period, which lasted from 1890 to 1980.
Mnangagwa made these remarks during the launch of a study initiated by the Zimbabwe National Elders Forum (ZNEF), titled “Land Displacements: The Untold Stories of Crimes, Injustices, Trauma, and Losses Experienced by Indigenous Zimbabweans During the Colonial Era (1890-1980): A Case for Reparations.” He said (via <a href="https://www.herald.co.zw/colonial-brutality-president-demands-britains-apology-elders-council-on-a-mission-for-reparations/">The Herald</a>):

We have observed and indeed quite recently, as former colonial powers; the United Kingdom apologising to the Mau Mau of Kenya and Germany also apologising to the Mbanderu, Herero and Nama people of Namibia.
Therefore, we ask, when are the rest of us in the former colonies going to receive similar apologies from these people, the colonisers, the British? We wonder. We need it, they must apologise.
It is no secret that colonial violence was brutal and systematic and those of us old enough to tell the tale, still bear scars and associated trauma from the violence.
We remember this more than a century later because the residual effects of decades-long pain and bitterness are still real.
Indeed, we can no longer remain silent while our people carry the scars of a painful and cruel past.
Equally, the subject of reparations is not new but the calls for restitution continue to grow louder and louder.

The Zimbabwe National Elders Forum (ZNEF) comprises distinguished Zimbabweans from various sectors, including the clergy, academia, and business.
During his address, Mnangagwa said Zimbabwe is already compensating white former farmers for improvements made on farms that were redistributed by the State.
He asserted that it was the British who should have been the first to pay reparations to Zimbabwe, stating that such reparations could have been used to compensate the white farmers. Said Mnangagwa:

In retrospect, it is the colonial power that should have compensated Zimbabwe first and Zimbabwe then using part of the reparations to compensate the white former farmers for the improvements.
We realise that national healing will not be complete without the empathy similar to that accorded to the said farmers.
It is, therefore, important for our key knowledge industries and institutions to support this study by the Elders Forum so that we harvest as many enriching insights into the human experiences of colonialism and its aftermath.
</blockquote>
The President assured ZNEF of government support and urged Zimbabweans, both at home and abroad, to back the initiative.
Professor Mandivamba Rukuni, an expert involved in the study, stated that the project would require at least US$5 million to cover costs such as travel and hiring experts.
The project has two main goals: to take the colonisers to court to win reparations and to demand a formal apology.
Prof. Rukuni said they have studied similar cases in Namibia and Kenya. By the time they are ready for litigation, they plan to hire top legal minds, not only in Zimbabwe but also in the colonizers’ jurisdictions.
The strategy involves finding them guilty in their own countries and in the countries of their allies, ensuring they are held accountable and compelled to pay, according to Prof. Rukuni.

President Mnangagwa wants Britain to say sorry and pay for hurting Zimbabwe during colonial times. Mnangagwa Calls For British Apology And Reparations For Colonial Abuses

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) has embarked on a remodelling exercise that includes expanding the executive management committee (ExCo) to 16 from 10 and changing some dockets.
John Mushayavanhu, the former group CEO of FBC Holdings Limited, took over as RBZ Governor on March 28.
Since his appointment, he has introduced the Zimbabwe Gold (ZiG) currency and promised to make the local unit a preferred medium of exchange.
However, the central bank has faced several challenges, among them, a volatile exchange rate, rising inflation and increased dollarisation.
In response to inquiries by <a href="https://www.newsday.co.zw/business/article/200034340/mushayavanhu-tweaks-rbz-executive-team">NewsDay</a>, the RBZ said it is going through a remodelling process. It said:
