Tatenda Taibu is a former Zimbabwe national cricket team player and first black captain as well as the youngest captain in the history of the game. In May 2016 he was selected to be a convenor for the Zimbabwe cricket team.

Career
Tatenda started his career at the young age of 17 when he was drafted into the national team to play a One-Day International (ODI) debut before had participated in a single First-Class match before.[1] Taibu was a very prominent player being an exceptional wicketkeeper and batsman. He had some very outstanding performances scoring some huge scores against South Africa, Bangladesh and Canada although some of his outstanding performances were overshadowed by the teams' losses.[1] In 2006, Taibu went to South Africa where he intended to satisfy a four-year residency in South Africa in order to qualify for selection in the South African national side. The move nonetheless failed to materialise which saw him making a move to local cricket in 2007. Some of Taibu's most outstanding performances in his career include 85 not out and 153 versus Bangladesh and becoming the first local player to score a two-century against South Africa.
In May 2016 Taibu was selected to be a convenor for the senior men's cricket team.[2]
Church Ministry
Taibu's retirement from the game came as a surprise to many not only because of his young age but also because he had just been drafted into the national side which was scheduled to take part in the T20 Cricket World Cup.[3] The former captain is said to be leading a very modest life, a far cry from his once luxurious lifestyle. Some of the major changes that the player is said to have put in place include the removal of his swimming pool which was replaced by a garden, removal of satellite television, and the plastering of the living room with portraits of Jesus.[4] Currently Taibu is a member of the Eagle Eye Tabernacle and travels to Gweru every Sunday to attend the church service.

Taibu quit cricket at the age of 29 in what was largely described as a surprise move. The former Zimbabwe captain announced his move to quit cricket highlighting that he wanted to focus more on church.[5]

Taibu is the youngest cricketer in the history of the game to have captained a national team when he captained the Chevrons aged 20.
