Solomon Guramatunhu is a Zimbabwean ophthalmologist who was born in Nyazura. He has been a source of inspiration too many especially the visually impaired. His character and or personality to assist the disadvantaged was nurtured at Waterford Kamhlamba United World College of Southern Africa in Swaziland (1973-1994) where he was taught that everyone has the capacity to do great exploits for the betterment of the human race.[1]

Career
Guramatunhu began his career as a medical doctor after graduating from the UZ. He was then awarded a scholarship to pursue his studies in Scotland where he specialised in ophthalmology.[1] Guramatunhu has been in the medical field for more than 30 years as of yet.
Guramatunhu is currently an honorary lecturer at the UZ in the Department of Ophthalmology.[1] He is also a member of the International Cataract and Refractive Surgery Society of Southern Africa, the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the Corneal Society and the European Vitreo-retinal Society and Euretina.[2] Guramatunhu is also the patron of the Zimbabwe Rural Schools Library Trust.[1]
The Alleged Fatal Operation
In 2013, Guramatunhu was sued by Joan Gross who claimed that he was behind the death of her husband Horst who died in February 2009 during a routine cataract surgery.[3] Guramatunhu was however cleared as Mrs Gross's arguments were dismissed as uncalled for.[4]

- Registrar in Ophthalmology at the Glasglow Group of Hospitals (Scotland)
- Honorary Lecturer at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is still a member of the academy
- Patron of the ZIMCARE TRUST
- Chairman of the Bindura University of Science Education's board
Achievements
- Constructed the Greenwood Park Eye Centre
- Founded the Ophthalmological Society of Zimbabwe
- Co-founded Eyes for Africa and is the current chairman of the organisation which is aided by the Rotary Clubs in Zimbabwe and South Africa to offer free surgery to the disadvantaged
- Founded the Guramatunhu Family Trust

- Manager of the Year Award (2007) conferred by the Zimbabwe Institute Management
- Merit Award as a Friend of the Zimbabwe Red Cross Society from the Red Cross Society
