The Shoko Festival is Zimbabwe’s fastest growing international festival and has established itself as a major event on Zimbabwe’s annual arts calendar. Shoko is a vibrant space that hosts everything from live concerts, comedy nights, talks and discussions, to cutting edge presentations on tech and new media.It is a living experiment in urban culture, free expression and positive social change. It is about breaking down the barriers between media, culture and activism to create dialogue, progress and cutting edge new urban culture. Shoko Festival is an upcoming and very big arts festival in Zimbabwe and is amongst the largest fast growing urban culture festivals in Africa with performances from musicians such as Bucie (SA), Soul Jah Love(ZW), Deep Fried Man(SA), Black Twang(UK), Symbiz Sound(GER), Silverstone(UK), Junior Brown(ZW), Cassper Nyovest(SA) ,Toll A$$ (SA), A.K.A (SA).
Shoko Festival was founded by Sam Farai Munro.
Shoko Festival Themes
Each year, Shoko Festival has a theme chosen by the team organising the event. The theme usually reflects on Harare’s beautiful people to tune in to the many voices and sounds that reverberate in the city. The voices are those of the rappers and singers, the comedians and poets as well as the many voices of young innovators and citizen journalists dreaming of a new tomorrow. Shoko is a festival throwing the eclectic call of the world’s urban culture movement into the streets from one electric venue.[1]
