Prince Musarurwa was an Afro-Jazz artist who became a household name after featuring on Pah Chihera's Runonzi Rudo song in 2013. Musarurwa died in February 2020 after succumbing from cancer. He was the grandson of the late Augustine Musarurwa the Skokiaan singer [1] and was also Pah Chihera's uncle.
Background
Prince was born Prince Kudakwashe Musarurwa on 6 December 1988.[2] He went to Hatfield Primary School and Churchill Boys High School.[2] He also completed his musical studies at the Zimbabwe College of Music.
Death
Musarurwa's death was reported on 15 February 2020. According to reports he died from lung cancer.
Career
Prince claims that he was born a musician as his family was composed of musicians hence he was destined to be a musician. He claims that he started singing at a tender age. In 2011, he released his first album, Kurarama which was a flop. The following year, he released his second album, Gara Muberevere which was well received. He however became popular after the release of his duet with Pah Chihera Runonzi Rudo. His third album, Gogodera which was released in 2013, also increased his popularity.
It was reported that he was set to record his duet with Naledi Kaisara, a Motswana singer who is popularly known as Slizer who was once reported to be Peter Moyo's girlfriend in February 2014 [3] on his new album Chiga Chikuru which was to be released in September 2014.[4] In May 2014, he performed at the 2014 edition of the Southern Africa Music and Arts Festival held in London in the United Kingdom together with Thomas Mapfumo and Jah Prayzah.[5] Prince has also performed at the Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA) editions.[5]
