Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries (P.H.D) is a Christian religious organisation founded in 2010 and led by Walter Magaya who is a self-proclaimed prophet. The organisation rose to prominence around 2012 when it was increasingly reported that the membership was growing very fast and widespread reports of miracles taking place. The church organisation was formed on the backdrop of the apparent working of miracles by its founder.
Founding
Magaya has said that he formed the church after returning from a trip to Nigeria's Synagogue Church of All Nations (Scoan) where the leader of that church, Temitope Balogun Joshua (commonly referred to as T. B. Joshua) advised him that he (Magaya) had a lot of work to do in Zimbabwe. Magaya said he returned to find 120 people waiting for him and as he started working miracles for these people, more and more people would come to his meetings.[1]
Location
PHD Ministries is located along Simon Mazorodze Road opposite Zindoga Shopping Centre. The address is:
1 Sherwood Crescent, Corner Simon Mazorodze, Harare
Yadah TV
PHD Ministries owns a free to air TV channel called Yadah TV. The church uses the channel to "showcase the power of Jesus Christ." Yadah is a Hebrew term which translates to praise. Yadah TV also maintains a YouTube channel where the church posts sermons delivered by Magaya.
Notable Members
Notable members of the PHD church include Sungura musician Nicholas Zacharia[2] and popular Zimbabwean news anchor Oscar Pambuka.
Humiliation by TB Joshua
In April 2014, PHD Ministries was humiliated after TB Joshua said they had lied about plans to bring the SCOAN church leader to Zimbabwe as well as that Magaya's wife had been trained at SCOAN to be a prophetess. PHD Ministries spokesperson, Oscar Pambuka, had told the media that they had invited TB Joshua to Zimbabwe for an event. Pambuka also said that Magaya's wife would be in Nigeria to receive training. "Magaya’s wife will be in Nigeria for the next two months where she will be taught to become a prophetess,”'Pambuka said.[3]
