Kevin Curran, was a Zimbabwean professional cricketer and coach for the Zimbabwe Cricket team. He left an indelible mark in cricket having played for and coached the national team.
Background
Kevin Curran was born on 7 September 1959. He was a right-handed middle-order batsman and fast-medium pace bowler. At the time of his death, he was head of the Zimbabwe Cricket Academy. The Surrey and England cricketers Tom Curran and Sam Curran and the Northamptonshire player Ben Curran are his sons. His father, also called Kevin, played first-class cricket for Rhodesia in the 1940's and 1950's.
Career
A right-handed middle-order batsman and fast-medium pace bowler, he played 11 one-day internationals and appeared at the 1983 and 1987 World Cups. He made his debut in Zimbabwe’s famous 13-run win over Australia at the 1983 World Cup.
He also played for English county sides Gloucestershire and Northamptonshire, but missed out on a Test career by remaining in England when Zimbabwe gained Test status in 1992. Curran coached Zimbabwe from 2005 to 2007 and was coaching franchise side Mashonaland Eagles.[1]
Death
Curran collapsed while jogging in Mutare and died shortly thereafter on 10 October 2012, aged 53.
