Jackie Madondo was a Zimbabwean gospel artist who made waves with her songs such as "mazuva acho" and "Achadzoka". She was tragically killed from injuries sustained in a car accident in 2004.
Background
Jacqueline Orleen Vivian Madondo was born on 10 May 1980 and died on 17 November 2004 due to injuries sustained in a car accident.[1] Her daughter Chantelle was killed on the spot in the same accident when a truck rammed into their vehicle.[1]
She started singing in church together with her sister Mabel under the name "Madondo sisters". The group was later joined by other members which included Lindarose Chinogureyi and Shylet Mudzamiri with only one male member; Kudzai Nyoni. Having brought other members to the group, the group was renamed Vessels of Honour.[2]
Career
In 1997 Jackie Madondo was part of the EGEA Choir which was a music group assembled by the then Pastor Admire Kasi, Madondo's relative.[3] The group was fronted by Ivy Kombo and Carol Mujokoro. Jackie Madondo's first album titled "mazuva acho" established her as a distinct gospel artiste in the industry. The title track "mazuva acho" was an instant hit when it was released and it received wide airplay on local radio stations.[4] She was also a member of the Ruvhuvhute sisters which comprised top Zimbabwean female artists such as Plaxedes Wenyika, Ivy Kombo and Fortunate Matenga.[5] The group released a song titled "come to Victoria falls" which did very well. The song was also complimented with a very good video.[2]

Death
In November 2004, Madondo was involved in a car accident when the car she and her one-month-old baby were traveling in was involved in a head-on collision with a military truck along Enterprise Road. She died days later in hospital from the injuries.[6] She was 24 years old when she died. Her baby also died. On the fateful day, a Saturday, she was on her way to the Harare International Conference Centre where she was billed to perform at the Nguva Yakwana Gospel Show.
