Hwange Airport is a domestic airport in Matabeleland North Province Hwange. The airport is adjacent to the town of Hwange and is situated at the entrance of Hwange National Park which is its main port of business. It is surrounded by lodges, Hwange Safari Lodge, which is 3,5km away from the airport, and Ganda Lodge, which is 6 km away from the airport.

Visitors Guide

The Airport is 7.5km off the 265 km peg of the Bulawayo-Victoria Falls main road along the road to Hwange Main Camp. The airport is 75km away from Hwange Town and 190km from Victoria Falls. It is situated some 8 kilometers from the Bulawayo � Victoria Falls Highway and some 60 kilometres from Hwange Colliery.

Background

The Hwange Airport construction started in 1969 and in 1971 it started its operations. The airport's runway is 4 600 meters long (the second longest runway in Zimbabwe) and 30 meters wide. The largest aircraft that can land on this runway is an Airbus A320, which has a capacity of up to 150 passengers depending on the sitting configuration. The Boeing 737, which can carry up to 110 passengers, can also land on this runway. The terminal has a passenger capacity of up to 110 passengers one way per hour at peak. The airport has an Air Traffic Control service as well as Fire Fighting and Rescue services. [1]
