Harlington Shereni is a former Zimbabwean footballer who played who played for various clubs locally and abroad. He was part of the historic Class of 98 Dynamos Football Club team which reached the finals of the African Clubs championship. He also played for the national team locally referred to as the warriors.

Background

Shereni was born on the 6th of July in 1975 in the then Salisbury town which is now called Harare.[1] He is single and is a father of two; daughter Tatyanah and son Tyrone.[2]

Football career

Shereni began his professional football career at Hippo Valley High School where the school won the Coca-Cola Schools Championships three times. He got lucky when Freddie Mkwesha signed him for CAPS United Football Club straight from school in 1995. He was subsequently signed by Sunday Chidzambwa at the beginning of 1998 to join Dynamos Football Club.[2]

He was part of the Dynamos Dream Team of 1998 which reached the African Champions League finals in 1998.[3] He played for the club from 1998 to 1999. In 1999, he left Dynamos for Delemont in Switzerland where he played for five years.[2] He then moved to French Ligue 2 club Istres. He did not stay long there as he signed for Guingamp in Ligue 1. Shereni would play for the next three years. In 2007, he joined Nantes and was captain of the club in 2008.[2]

Retirement

In 2008, Shereni quit from playing for the Zimbabwe national team , the Warriors, after the team failed to reach the final round of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup and Africa Cup of Nations, finishing third in their group.[3]
