Clemence Matawu is a Zimbabwean football administrator who was born on 29 November 1982 and was a Chicken Inn Football Club player at the time of his retirement in 2020. He is a former player for Motor Action Football Club as a midfielder.
Background
He was born on the 29th of November in 1982 in Bindura and grew up in Shamva. Matawu did his education at Shamva Primary, Chipindura High, Hermann Gmeiner and Churchill Boys High. He is a holder of a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Sport Science and Coaching from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST).
Career
Matawu started playing for Motor Action Football Club in 2001 after being spotted by Eric Rosen the owner of the now defunct club who paid his fees whilst he was studying at Churchill High School. He went on to be the most loyal player for the club. He later went on to Poland after attracting the attention of Polish clubs. He didn't last long and retraced his way back to the country and joined Chicken Inn Football Club.[1] He has been appearing on the Soccer Stars list for a record six times.[2]
Retirement from playing football
The 2006 Soccer Star of the Year retired from football in 2020 at the age of 38 after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[3] He was then appointed as the Chicken Inn Football Club administrator.
Football Administrator
In February 2021, Chicken Inn announced they had appointed Matawu as the football administrator. He joined Chicken Inn in 2013 after returning to Zimbabwe from Poland and his playing career was brought to an abrupt end after the Government suspended football indefinitely to curb the spread of the coronavirus. In September 2023, Matawu was appointed as the manager of the Warriors until 30 June 2023 by the ZIFA Normalisation Committee.[4]
