Events
In April 2015, Charity Manyeruke was awarded a professorship in Political Science at the University of Zimbabwe. Academics and students expressed grave doubts over Manyeruke’s publications record and whether it qualifies her to be accorded professorship, amid reports that the Academic Promotions Committee had turned down her application but Vice Chancellor Professor Levy Nyagura went ahead and unilaterally facilitated for Manyeruke the honour. This controversy comes after the university’s conferment of a doctorate of philosophy degree to (then) First Lady Grace Mugabe who is said to have completed the higher degree in a record three months without following procedures. Grace’s degree award drew the ire of the academic fraternity and general citizenry, as there was no proof she had gone through the necessary academic processes and procedures to earn a doctorate. Despite repeated calls, the UZ has failed to produce details of when the First Lady was admitted for studies or a record of her thesis. [3]</
In September 2018, Professor Manyeruke was appointed to the Motlanthe Commission. [2]
02 Jul 2019 Professor Manyeruke was appointed ambassador to Rwanda.
Implicated in Political violence
Manyeruke was implicated by Jim Kunaka in the political violence unleashed against Movement for Democratic Change - Tsvangirayi (MDC-T) supporters. Kunaka attacked Manyeruke whilst he was testifying before the Motlanthe Commission. Kunaka refused to be questioned by Manyeruke as he stated that she was in no moral position to be sitting on the panel of the commission of inquiry.
