Blot is the stage name of a Zimbabwean Zimdancehall artist, Takura Chiwoniso. Blot came to fame in 2016 after he performed a song called Ndiri Bad on the Stage Riddim by Chill Spot Records. He became one of the most sought after Zimdancehall artists of the year.
Background
He was born in 1996 in Kwekwe, growing up under the care of his mother after his parents divorced when he was two-years-old. He moved in with Dr Abuja in Dzivaresekwa, Harare, after his grandfather whom he stayed with, in Mvurwi lost his job and the family had to move to the rural areas.[1]
Education
He went to Chiedza Primary School in Mbizo but transferred in fourth grade when he moved to Mvurwi to stay with his grandfather. After primary school, he went to Mvurwi Secondary School. He was in Form 2 when he dropped out of school due to financial constraints and decided to try his luck in the music industry.[1]
Career
In 2014, a group of artists staged a show in Mvurwi where he was given the opportunity to perform and this is how he was noticed by Dr Abuja, who encouraged him to come to Harare if he had the chance so that he could record.
In April 2017 he will be going on his first regional and international tour where he will perform in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Pretoria. He will also be performing in the UK from April 26 to April 28 alongside other chanters including Shinsoman and Boom Beto.[1]
Arrest And Acquittal
Blot was arrested on 13 June 2023 after he was allegedly found in possession of 1.15g of Crystal Meth.[2]
He was allegedly selling the drugs from a motor vehicle that was parked along Matiza Road in Sunningdale 2.
Blot initially appeared at the Mbare Magistrates Court in June facing charges of possession of dangerous drugs. He was acquitted by the same court in September 2023.[3]
