Bantu Rovers Football Club is a privately owned, Zimbabwean professional football club which used to play in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League. It is based in Bulawayo and plays in the Zimbabwe's Southern Region Division One.
Background
Bantu Rovers Football Club was founded by former footballer and co-founder of Grassroot Soccer, Methembe Ndlovu in 2008 before he was joined by American businessman, Peter Grieve in 2009.
Club Achievements
Bantu Rovers competed in the Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League in 2009, after the owners bought a premier soccer league franchise, Eastern Lions, and 2010, finishing 9th and 14th, respectively. After the 2010 season, Bantu were relegated to the Southern Region First Division where they finished 4th in 2011. In 2012, the club's Under 18 squad visited the United States and competed in the prestigious Dallas Cup, finishing in the top 4 of 28 teams in the Under 19 division. [1] In 2014 season, Bantu Rovers played in the premier league after acquiring the Plumtree Chiefs franchise.
Talent Development
The club focuses on talent identification and development and has partnered with Grass Roots Soccer. Bantu facilitates the movement of top student-athletes from Zimbabwe to to some of the finest preparatory schools in the United States and United Kingdom on scholarship opportunities, with the expectation of continuing their education at U.S. colleges and universities.[2]
