Mayombwe Patrick Wanny (born September 25, 1993) popularly known by his stage name Athen Lyre, is a Ugandan singer-songwriter, producer and performer.
Early Life
Mayombwe is from Kampala. He was born in Najjanakumbi into a family of 15(14 boys and 1 girl). He grew up in several parts of the country including Busabala and Luwero due to the fact that he had lost his parents. At the age of 9, Athen Lyre was enrolled in a music school where he learnt and mastered the rudiments of playing the piano and guitar. In 2006, Athen Lyre joined his secondary level at his uncle’s school called Butanza College where he joined the school choir and became the head of all the entertainment programs of the school. In 2007, the singer songwriter went to record his first professional track with the school choir in Bwaise, from there the musical journey of Athen Lyre grew better and excellent. In 2008, Athen Lyre was spotted performing and got signed under Big Tym that was owned and managed by the most recognized singer-songwriter of all the time Mr Sylver Kyagulanyi who advanced and taught the singer-songwriter Athen on how to write and compose music. In 2010 Athen Lyre moved to South Africa to chase his dreams of becoming one of the biggest music icon in Africa.
Music Career
His first single titled "African girl" was released under Athenation Music Ent. Athen performed African girl at East Rand search for talent auditions that were held at Emperors Palace, Barnyard theatre in 2015 hence taking him to the finals of the auditions as the first black and foreign artist in the auditions. In 2016 while in South Africa, Athen Lyre was spotted by a producer who was amongst the judges at the final event of the auditions after his wonderful performance of a song titled "Promise". It was at the same event he met Kush Carter, the manager of Four Yard Records who he became friends with and introduced him to one of Zimbabwean’s artist Nox Nguni. He eventually connected with Athen Lyre to collaborate on a song which they did, titled “keys to your heart” , a single collaboration that furthered his music career hence opening a widened audience in Zimbabwe. The music video of keys to your heart was directed by an American film director Ken Belter who offered it to the Ugandan singer-songwriter due to his talent.
