Amin "Mr Fix It" Soma-Phiri is a Zimbabwean coach who is a former player and welfare manager for Highlanders Football Club where he is an assistant coach.
Background
Amin Soma-Phiri is the elder brother to former Dembare, Bosso and Super Sport United (South Africa) footballer, Makwinji Soma-Phiri.[1]
Education
He is a holder of a Level Four coaching certificate.[2]
Career
Soma-Phiri began his professional career in 1984 with Olympics Football Club, aged barely 16 years before he joined Highlanders Football Club when Olympics was relegated at the end of the 1984 season. He was part of the all conquering squad that won every cup competition in 1987. The squad included greats such as the late Willard Khumalo, Rahman Gumbo and Madinda Ndlovu.[3] He played for Bosso from 1985 to 1997.[4]
In 2012 he became the welfare manager of his former club after coaching ZIFA Division Two club Luveve Big 11.[5] After his stint as Highlanders welfare manager he joined South African club Super Sport United on a technical attachment to bolster his coaching qualifications. He was at one time the coach for Bulawayo province boys' soccer team that won silver medals on two occasions at the Zimbabwe National Youth Games.[2] Following the dismissal of Bongani Mafu as Highlanders Football Club coach in September 2015, Soma-Phiri was appointed assistant coach to Cosmas Zulu.[6]

Controversy
Insulting Fan
In October 2014, Soma-Phiri appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate for insulting a Highlanders supporter following the club's 4-1 loss to arch-rivals Dynamos in September 2014. He is said to have used vulgar words to insult a former police officer Jotham Ndiweni when they were drinking beer. He pleaded not guilty when he appeared before a Bulawayo magistrate.[7]
