Alfonso Zvenyika who is popularly known as Mosquito is a former Zimbabwean boxer who is originally from Mozambique, who is also won Commonwealth Flyweight Boxing Championship. He has now opened his own boxing academy, theMosquito Boxing Gym in Mbare.

Alfonso was born on 25 November 1975 in Mbare. He has 8 children with 5 wives.
Career
Zvenyika launched his career as a professional lightweight boxer in the early 1990s. He rose to stardom when he won the Commonwealth Light Flyweight Championship title in 1998 after knocking out Paul Weir who was a Scottish boxer. He also won the Zimbabwe Super Flyweight title and the African Flyweight title. His career however abruptly came to a halt since 2000. Speculations were rife that he was forced to hang his boxing gloves due to health problems.[1] Contrary to this, he stated that he suffered a major blow in 2000 in Zambia when he was injured during a fight.[1]
Notwithstanding that Zvenyika was one of the prominent and successful boxers to emerge from the country, he is now living in abject poverty. In 2013, it was allegedly reported that one of his numerous friends settled his electricity bill which was for 11 years.[1] He opened his own institution, the Mosquito Boxing Academy in Mbare and has since been training aspiring boxers.
Death Rumours
It was rumoured that Zvenyika had died. Zvenyika however dispelled this rumour stating that another boxer with the same surname's as his had passed away and due to the fact that Zvenyika was popular the media was awash with news of his death.
Trivia
Zvenyika was featured in the remix video of the Ishan's song where he appears coaching a boy in boxing.
