Aston Villa Coach Emery Confirms Marvelous Nakamba's Imminent Exit
Zimbabwean midfielder Marvelous Nakamba is scheduled to leave Villa Park during the current January transfer window, according to Aston Villa coach Unai Emery.
Nakamba, who turned 29 yesterday, has slipped down the Villa midfield pecking order and is yet to play in a competitive game for the claret and blue this season, fueling rumours that he may be shown the door.
The Hwange-born midfielder had high hopes for a turnaround after Emery took over for England great Steven Gerrard as Villa’s head coach in October of last year.
Nevertheless, Emery has stated that Nakamba’s exit is impending amid a team restructuring that will probably result in a number of players departing the club. Emery told the media ahead of Villa’s trip to Southampton tomorrow:
It’s going to be very difficult to sign a striker to improve our team and squad, but we will try to do it now, or in the summer.
If they leave, the idea is to maybe add one more player as a midfielder.
Morgan Sanson and Nakamba both are likely to leave.
Nakamba, one of just five players from Zimbabwe to play in the English Premier League, transferred from Club Brugge of Belgium to Villa in August 2019.
