Aston Villa Fires Manager Steven Gerrard
Aston Villa has sacked manager Steven Gerrard after Thursday night’s 0-3 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
The club had a wretched start to the 2022/23 season, which sees the club sitting just one place above the Premier League relegation zone.
The former Liverpool captain was sacked less than two hours after the loss to Fulham. The club said in a statement:
Aston Villa Football Club can confirm that head coach Steven Gerrard has left the club with immediate effect.
We would like to thank Steven for his hard work and commitment and wish him well in the future.
Gerrard took over from Dean Smith who was sacked in November 2021 and oversaw 38 Premier League games and managed 12 wins, eight draws and 17 losses.
Meanwhile, Gerrard’s sacking may be good news for Warriors midfielder Marvelous Nakamba who has not featured for Villa this season.
