PREAMBLE: ZIMBABWE EVENING WEATHER REPORT AND FORECAST ISSUED AT 1600 HRS ON SUNDAY 02 JANUARY 2022 VALID UNTIL TUESDAY 04 JANUARY 2022.
The moisture affecting the country resulted in scattered light thunderstorms mostly in areas along the main watershed and the Eastern Highlands yesterday. Hence, some of the notable rainfall figures measured this morning were 23mm (Chisengu) and 15mm (Mutoko).
FORECAST: FORECAST FOR FORECAST FOR MONDAY 03 JANUARY 2022
It should be cloudy with scattered thunderstorms in all Matabeleland Provinces, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, all Mashonaland Provinces and Manicaland Province. Morning conditions are expected to be mild, becoming warm by afternoon. In Masvingo and southern areas of Manicaland Province, mostly cloudy and warm weather with isolated afternoon thundershowers are expected.
IMPACTS
• Lightning and hailstorms are a major risk during this period.
• Localized heavy downpours remain probable.
• Strong winds may blow off roofs and damage property.
• Most thunderstorms occur between mid-morning and evening hours, with afternoons being peak periods.
ACTIONS TO TAKE
• ‘When thunder roars, go indoors. Stay indoors for at least; 30 minutes after the thunderstorms have ended. These are precautionary measures to reduce the chances of being struck by lightning.
• Note that lightning can strike from a large distance: thus if you can hear thunder within 30 seconds of seeing lightning, then you are close enough to get struck. Go into a vehicle or a house.
• Do not ride at the back of an open vehicle or ox-drawn cart during a thunderstorm.
• Avoid contact with water or metal objects including fanning equipment when lightning is visible, even from a distance.
• Insure crops against adverse weather such as hailstorms.
• Be Weather-ready; always plan with the weather in mind.

Cloudy conditions with scattered thunderstorms are expected in Matabeleland North, Bulawayo Metropolitan, northern parts of Midlands, Harare Metropolitan, all Mashonaland Provinces and Manicaland. It should be mild at first becoming warm by afternoon. The rest of the country (Matabeleland South, southern areas of Midlands Masvingo and southern parts of Manicaland Province) is anticipated to be partly cloudy and warm with isolated afternoon thundershowers, though mild in the morning and evening.
