ZIMSEC Dismiss Reports Saying CALAs Have Been Suspended
The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) has dismissed reports that say the Continuous Assessment Learning Activities (CALAs) have been suspended to at least 2022.
Messages circulating on social media had suggested that ZIMSEC had suspended the CALAs this year due to COVID-19-induced lockdowns. Read the message:
_ZIMSEC HAS DECLARED THAT It’s now guaranteed that (CALAs) Continuous Assessment Learning Activities are not going to proceed this year because of lockdown issues and they are going to start in 2022._
FeedbackHowever, ZIMSEC dismissed the reports as false. Speaking to Pindula News in an interview, an official who spoke on condition of anonymity said:
_That’s misinformation, CALAs are still on._

- Govt To Re-introduce Continuous Assessment For ZIMSEC Exams
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education revived continuous assessment for public examination classes last year in a bid “to produce a child that can survive in any situation.”
The Ministry observed that learners were now cramming for examinations without understanding the relevance of their studies in real life.
CALA is any learning activity or assessment that requires learners to perform, demonstrate their knowledge, understanding and proficiency.
