Resumption Of Sports In Schools Suspended Indefinitely
The Ministry of Health and Child Care has put on hold the resumption of sporting activities in schools indefinitely following a rise in coronavirus cases in some schools.
The Primary and Secondary Education Ministry had sought guidance from the Health Ministry after the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) had permitted schools to restart sporting activities.
Responding to the Education ministry’s request for guidance in the resumption of sports in schools, the Ministry of Health and Child Care wrote:
Given the threats of a third wave, corona variants and that there are no vaccines for children, we advise that schools refrain from sporting activities until the country achieves verifiable herd immunity.
The National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) and National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) have been pushing for the return of sports in schools but this will not happen at least for now.
