Information Minister Mutsvangwa Self-Isolates After Husband, Chris, Tested Positive For Coronavirus
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa is reportedly in self-isolation after her husband Chris Mutsvangwa tested positive for coronavirus.
Chris, the war veterans leader and former advisor to President Mnangagwa reportedly tested positive for the virus last week.
The minister missed this week’s cabinet meeting as she had self-isolated as a precautionary measure.
Several ministers missed Tuesday’s cabinet session after coming into contact with the late former minister of Lands and Agriculture, Perrance Shiri, who succumbed to the virus last week.
The development comes at the backdrop of a surge in the number of coronavirus cases in the country in the most recent weeks.
As of 5 August, Zimbabwe had reported 4,339 coronavirus cases and 84 deaths since the virus was first detected in the country on March 20.
As a result of the spike in coronavirus cases, a number of companies and government institutions have since suspended business as a strategy to curb the spread and transmission of the virus.
Parliament is one of the institutions that suspended business after two legislators initially tested for the virus. The number has since increased.
