Dates For Resumption Of 2019/20 EPL Season Revealed
The English Premier League has announced that the 2019/20 season shall resume on the 17th of June with relegation-threatened Aston Villa at home to Sheffield United while title contenders and reigning champions, Manchester City host Arsenal.
The two matches are in the ‘games in hand’ that will take all the 20 clubs up to 29 matches and have huge effects at both ends of the table.
Another Premier League game may be played on Friday, June 19 but the full round of fixtures will start on Saturday, June 20 with matches staggered across the weekend.
The timetable was put to the clubs at their shareholders’ meeting which is taking place on Thursday to decide a raft of issues.
The scheduling of matches for ‘Project Restart’ is key with the Premier League hoping to complete the season by the weekend of August 1 and 2. The League was suspended following the outbreak of the coronavirus.
Playing the two outstanding games first will allow all the clubs to fall in line with the number of games played. Marvelous Nakamba’s team’ Villa, is desperate to get out of the bottom three while Sheffield United are vying for the UEFA Champions League.
