Soldier Kills Colleague Following Dispute
A Zimbabwean soldier, Munyaradzi Kandawasvika (33) on Saturday appeared before Guruve resident magistrate Shingirai Mutiro facing murder charges after he allegedly hit his colleague with a canoe paddle while they were crossing the Zambezi River in Kanyemba, leading to his drowning.
The state alleges that Kandawasvika of 2.1 Battalion Force in Mt Darwin had an argument with Tinashe Mutizwa while crossing Zambezi River using a canoe on January 21.
Prosecutor Spiwe Makarichi who was representing the state added that Kandawasvika allegedly grabbed Mutizwa’s paddle and struck him once on the head.
Mutizwa reportedly lost balance, he fell into the water but failed to swim and drowned. The deceased’s body was retrieved downstream, leading to Kandawasvika’s arrest.
