Industry Pleads With ZESA To Be Spared Load Shedding

Manufacturing industries have urged power utility ZESA Holdings to spare them power cuts as this negatively affect their operations.

Industrialists claim that Msasa industrial area in Harare has been the most affected by the newly introduced load-shedding schedule.

In an interview with The Herald, Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) president Sifelani Jabangwe said:

Some areas have lost production time that is equal to two days and we are hoping that authorities will try to come up with a strategy that spares industry.

They can cut electricity elsewhere not the manufacturing sector because that will have an impact on the economy. While we are still to get a full report on the impact of power outages, Msasa has been adversely affected.

The Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) last week rolled out a stringent load shedding schedule where different parts of the country go without power for as much as 8 hours a day.

The power cuts have been attributed to dwindling water levels at Lake Kariba, which has constrained power generation as well as shortages of coal at the country’s thermal power plants.
