I thought Mugabe's WHO appointment was a bad April Fool's joke - Canada PM
Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has added his voice to those condemning the appointment of President Robert Mugabe as the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) goodwill ambassador for non-communicable diseases. The Canadian PM said that he initially thought the news was a bad joke and described the move as “unacceptable.”
Speaking at a press briefing, Trudeau said:
When I heard of Robert Mugabe’s appointment… quite frankly, I thought it was a bad April Fool’s joke
FeedbackIt is absolutely unacceptable and inconceivable this individual would have a role as a goodwill ambassador for any organization, much less the World Health Organization.
Under mounting pressure over the appointment, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director-general of the UN health agency, said he was “rethinking” his decision.
